Fire Scott O'Brien!!!!
As I just watched a total collapse of the Broncos today, I wondered what it could have been if they would have kicked away from Devin Hester. I said last week in my last diary "DO NOT KICK TO DEVIN HESTER!!!"
Any person that watches football knows that Devin Hester is the most dangerous return guy in the NFL. Does O'Brien not watch game film? I know that Denver plays Chicago every 4 years, but come on!! Chicago is in the 3rd largest media market and is easily studied by ESPN, NFL network etc...
What will it take to know that Grossman sucks at QB? I'd rather kick out of bounds and give the Bears the ball at the 40. I do also blame the defense for not holding up, but getting a kick blocked and only having 17 yards to hold them out is a large task.
Mike Shanahan deserves blame for this too. The offense got way too tight in the second half. Cutler made some big plays, but the fact the Broncos were inside the 5 in the first half and the third quarter and couldn't get it in the end zone is pathetic.
So I ask, no demand that Scott O'Brien be fired. The special teams have been sub-par this season. They had some good plays, but to kick to Devin Hester and allow 14 points to a Bears team that is below average at best deserves a pink slip. This Broncos team might get to 8-8, but don't think they are going to get into the playoffs. San Diego could be improving and gift wrapping a game to the Bears just killed the Broncos' chances of winning the division.
FIRE Scott O'Brien!!!

You're right mdierk.
Our guys played great, then got screwed by the decision to kick not once, but TWICE to Hester. This after we both warned them not to.
By the way, Mike was right to get conservative. Given the field conditions we certainly didn't need any turnovers. We were clobbering the Bears whether we ran or threw the ball, so there was no need to take chances. It's easy to be critical in hindsight, but during the game I would have called it the same way he did. As you point out though, we both agreed days before the game not to kick to Hester.
O'Brien may or may not lose his job. New coaches in mid-season ussualy make things worse. There is a reasonable chance he gets his contract cut short before next season.
Good diary. This game was all Hester (and his boy O'Brien).
