New England's Search For History - Open Thread

I wasn't going to make a thread for the game, but after watching former Akron Zip, former Denver Bronco draft pick Domenik Hixon run back a kick-off for a TD, well, I couldn't resist.

Just another example of the Broncos making an example of the WRONG GUY!  I was defensive about Hixon for a couple reasons.....One, we both went to Akron.  Two, he is a solid return guy, even if the Broncos couldn't figure out a way to block for him.

Congratulations to the New England Patriots. Only the 4th team in the history of the National Football League to finish the regular season undefeated. Like 'em or hate 'em, it's impressive.

Hey Gumbel
Does he have to poke his eye out before you think it is intentional. How does he have this job.

Hey Seau why don't you hustle off the field and overpersure halftime.

Go Bronocs

50 TD passes for Brady
and 23 TD receptions for Moss. That play couldn't have been any easier.

Hixon was cut
after fumbling in consecutive games.  It wasn't a question of right guy wrong guy.  At the time it was about having somebody back there that gave us a chance to be competitive in games (SD was still playing poorly and we hadn't completely blown up in Chi-town yet).

Plus, he was only strating for NY because their regular guy was injured, and he wasn't cracking their receiving lineup anymore there than here.  You have to make a sacrifice somewhere to have a pure returner on the team, and to me Hixon had too much to learn and not enough natural ability to tie up a roster spot.

Did we replace him?  No.  Do I wish we had him back?  Yes, but hindsight is always 20/20, and I am still not sold on him being able to break a starting lineup on any team at WR.

P.S.
If you have to go Akron stick with Taylor ;)

Agree to disagree...
While you are right about SD, Hixon was a guy that had played in what, 5 or 6 games???

Doesn't matter now, but as I watched him last night, and Cribbs in the Browns game today return a punt for a TD I imagine what it would be like to have that type of weapon....

We agree
more than you think.

I'm just saying that Hixon was not developing fast enough for us to be competetive with him.

I think getting cut was what it took for him to "get it."  I do wish we had him back, and I would slay for a pure athlete returner that could cut swaths through the ugly part of the return.

He was definitely our most hasty cut of the year, though.

I think the Everett injury
affected Hixon quite a bit and I don't think it was coincidence that Hixon had a chance to visit Kevin Everett last week.

I think I agree with both of you - it was reasonable to cut Hixon at the time, but in hindsight it would be nice to still have him.

I should add
that at this point I think I am ready to start trading minor body parts for Devin Hester.  I don't really need all ten fingers anyway, right :)
