Keep up on all things Texans over at Battle Red Blog.  Head on over and give them a warm, MHR welcome!!!

Welcome to the club!

Stay tuned for my exclusive Super Bowl preview, coming up later today, and a coming soon, the MHR Podcast, just in time for free agency, the NFL combine, and the 2007 NFL Draft.

Question about Plummer....
is he a free agent this year or can the Broncos trade him?

by Donkeys5226 on Feb 1, 2007 2:25 PM MST reply actions

The Broncos WILL trade him...
b/c that's the kind of guy Shanahan is... we could keep him around and have one of the best backups in the league, but Shanahan will trade him b/c he knows that Jake won't be happy here b/c he's a starter (or thinks he is anyways).

You do know
that Jake doesn't want to be here.  According to Williamson, he's already made it known to the Broncos that he does not want to return.

Besides that, he's terribly expensive for a backup, and brings more value as cap relief for an additional starter than as a backup himself.  A trade might make for a larger cap hit, so I would expect him to be released.  It just doesn't make sense in the economy of the NFL to employ a backup at that price, especially one at a position that rarely sees the field.

Ya...
I guess when I was saying Shanahan would let him go, I meant he wouldn't be here one way or the other.  either trade or released... it's not like the texans have anyone we want anyways.

Funny...
I was going over their roster...there really aren't too many guys I'd target (as realistic return) on their roster.  I picked out Glenn Earl, Jason Babin, and maybe one of their vet guards (Pitts).

So yea, relatively empty cupboard there.
