The 2007 NFL Draft Day Open Thread and Diary -- ROUND 2

Talk about all the action in Round 2 here!!!

The fall of Alan Branch ends, with the Cardinals trading up in the 2nd round to get the DT from Michigan. Now my hopes shift to David Harris, though I don't think he'll be there at #56.

No sooner did the Raiders trade out of the 33rd pick than the Lions joined them, trading the 34th pick to Buffalo. The Bills selected LB Paul Posluzny, who should fill the hole left by London Fletcher or Takeo Spikes...

The Eagles send a clear message that the Eagles are definitely concerned about the durability of Donovan McNabb. Kevin Kolb is an interesting choice, since most people either love him or hate him....

The Chargers trade up and get another guy on my wish list, S Eric Weddle from Utah. The Chargers gave up a helluva lot, but the Chargers don't have alot of needs, so why draft alot of players....

The Raiders add to their offense with TE Zach Miller. No doubt the Raiders are going to give new coach Lane Kiffen as many weapons as possible...

The Dolphins finally draft their QB, John Beck, who all of a sudden has reached Steve Young and Jim McMahon status coming out of BYU. You guys think Beck is better than Quinn??

The Lions do well to stay home for their QB, getting Drew Stanton. I like him a lot, and the best thing for him is to get as far away from John L. Smith as possible....

Another of my dreams go by the wayside, with the Jets trading up for David Harris...Oh Well, now we'll wait and see where the Broncos go at #56...

The Browns are proving to be very active, trading back into the 2nd round. Depending on who they are targeting this is turning out to be a solid draft for Cleveland....

The target is Eric Wright, a high risk/reward Corner from UNLV. Could turn out to be a solid pick...

Cheifs get their DT, going with Turk McBride. The D-Line in KC, like most of the rest of the Chiefs, is a mess, so McBride had better pan out...

At least we won't have to worry about Josh Wilson as the Seahawks grab him one spot ahead of us...That puts Denver on the clock...

The Broncos waste no time, grabbing another DE, this time Tim Crowder from Texas. We'll have a writeup about Crowder coming up. Two picks, two DE's. Satisfied so far???

Eagles grab the DE I liked in Victor Abiamiri. It will be interesting to see which of these guys have the better career, being drafted back to back like that....

(9:30PM est) The second round continues to go by at a snail's pace. The Broncos draft early in round three, and it couldn't come soon enough....

The Bucs take another from my wish list grabbing Sabby Piscateli with the final pick of Round 2. It's becoming slim pickens at safety, and #70 may be to early for John Wendling....

For a team wanting to do some 3-4
Branch in Arizona makes quite a bit of sense.

by ohnokoolaid on Apr 28, 2007 4:28 PM MDT   0 recs

Liked the pick.
But loved the Bills pick of Posluszny. I'm with TSG in hoping for Harris at 56. It'll be like when we got Gold in Round 2.

by BroncoManiac44 on Apr 28, 2007 4:33 PM MDT   0 recs

Poz!!!
All of us over at Buffalo Rumblings are ECSTATIC about getting this guy.  The Bills had Marshawn Lynch and Paul Posluszny ranked #1 and #2 on their OVERALL draft board, respectively, so to get them both is AMAZING!
Buffalo Rumblings: the best Bills community on the Internet!

by Brian G on Apr 28, 2007 5:39 PM MDT to parent up   0 recs

Although
I'm a big-time dreamer. Sidney Rice would be fun to have.

by BroncoManiac44 on Apr 28, 2007 4:35 PM MDT   0 recs

Well
I'm pulling for another defender in round 2, followed by a wideout in round 3.

It'd be nice if we could get our hands on a wideout with return ability, while still getting good value.

by WABronco on Apr 28, 2007 4:41 PM MDT   0 recs

Maybe a guy like
Johnnie Lee Higgins tomorrow?

by BroncoManiac44 on Apr 28, 2007 4:43 PM MDT to parent up   0 recs

How about Philly
going after Brian Leonard? That would setup quite a pass catching combo out of the backfield, eh?

by BroncoManiac44 on Apr 28, 2007 4:46 PM MDT   0 recs

Damn
Did not see that. I saw Kolb play a few times here in Houston and I really liked the kid. All the talk about him being a system QB is warranted, though. Second round is always my favorite round.

by BroncoManiac44 on Apr 28, 2007 4:51 PM MDT   0 recs

Keep in mind
that Philly doesn't exactly play a typical NFL offense.  He fits their scheme very well.

by ohnokoolaid on Apr 28, 2007 4:57 PM MDT to parent up   0 recs

Weddle to SD
That one hurt. Finally a move that makes sense for our division rivals to make.

by BroncoManiac44 on Apr 28, 2007 4:55 PM MDT   0 recs

Goodness.
I take it back. SD gave up an awful lot to get the chance to draft Weddle. I really like him, but whoa.

And now Oakland with Miller. It appears the AFC West is going to excel in round 2. Let's hope Denver follows suit.

by BroncoManiac44 on Apr 28, 2007 4:59 PM MDT to parent up   0 recs

San Diego sold the farm for Weddle
for a guy I'm on record for saying is only a solid starting candidate, but no future standout, I can't say I'm dissapointed, or nervous for that matter.

by ohnokoolaid on Apr 28, 2007 4:58 PM MDT   0 recs

Pretty obvious Raiders selection
I think he was slotted there in most mock drafts.  Good all around player and should make for a nice safety net for Russell.  All young QBs should have a solid tight end for dump off purposes.

by ohnokoolaid on Apr 28, 2007 5:00 PM MDT   0 recs

Such as
Scheffler/Cutler last year.

by BroncoManiac44 on Apr 28, 2007 5:01 PM MDT to parent up   0 recs

Right
and now Cutler has two safe options, which should lessen the bust factor.

by ohnokoolaid on Apr 28, 2007 5:02 PM MDT to parent up   0 recs

Jarvis' conference call
He comes off as very well spoken...

by WABronco on Apr 28, 2007 5:04 PM MDT   0 recs

I want him...
to be a ravenous dog, ready to kill, Kill, KILL!!!

LOL...

by TheSportsGuru on Apr 28, 2007 5:05 PM MDT to parent up   0 recs

He clearly gets it.
I like his response to his marijuana suspsension.  He doesn't hide it, nor deny it, but expresses regret that doesn't come off as insincere.

He seems to put a lot of faith in his coaches, both at Florida and the new ones in Denver.

His demeanor reminds me of D.J. Williams, a real solid character but very driven on the football field.

by ohnokoolaid on Apr 28, 2007 5:29 PM MDT to parent up   0 recs

Atlanta may use Blalock at left tackle
I have to say, they are doing very well for themselves today, though there image is already tarnished by trading a real quarterback so a fake one can continue to live the dream.

by ohnokoolaid on Apr 28, 2007 5:05 PM MDT   0 recs

Heh
You should see the people down here in Houston. They LOVE Schaub. They think he's going to save the franchise.

And I've liked Atlanta's body of work so far.

by BroncoManiac44 on Apr 28, 2007 5:07 PM MDT   0 recs

Alex, make that
"Team That Doesn't Get It" for 2,000.

Here's an idea, let's get a wide receiver that only runs deep routes, and a quarterback that can't throw deep routes...

I thought Miami was in the right hands, but it looks like Cameron is a one and done, and takes Mueller with him...

by ohnokoolaid on Apr 28, 2007 5:08 PM MDT   0 recs

Beck over Quinn?
I'm really not a fan of either, but wow. The Dolphins really rolled the dice, to be kind about it.

by BroncoManiac44 on Apr 28, 2007 5:09 PM MDT   0 recs

Crazy, unlikely scenario
What if Jarrett falls to 56?

Is he an automatic pick?

by WABronco on Apr 28, 2007 5:10 PM MDT   0 recs

He could take over the old Eddie Mac role.
Just kidding. I miss him =(

by BroncoManiac44 on Apr 28, 2007 5:11 PM MDT to parent up   0 recs

Anyone else get kind of sick of the music?
I mean, it's been the same "drafted player profile" song for as long as I can remember.

by BroncoManiac44 on Apr 28, 2007 5:17 PM MDT   0 recs

Indy traded up
Might be a move to get Harris

by BroncoManiac44 on Apr 28, 2007 5:20 PM MDT   0 recs

Could also go end here
as insurance for Freeney and his contract situation.

by ohnokoolaid on Apr 28, 2007 5:21 PM MDT to parent up   0 recs

Ugoh
This draft is so much fun.

by BroncoManiac44 on Apr 28, 2007 5:22 PM MDT   0 recs

Stanton to Detroit.
Somebody in the background was REALLY excited to get Stanton.

by BroncoManiac44 on Apr 28, 2007 5:23 PM MDT   0 recs

Lions draft
really is starting to remind me of the Chargers a few years ago when they got Tomlinson/Brees and jumpstarted that franchise. Martz with Johnson and Stanton could be having a lot of fun in the near future.

by BroncoManiac44 on Apr 28, 2007 5:27 PM MDT   0 recs

Wow...
Maybe they aren't going to the Cover 2 as soon as everyone thought...

by WABronco on Apr 28, 2007 5:39 PM MDT to parent up   0 recs

ESPN doesn't want you to know it
but Pitt took Lamar Woodley

by MattR on Apr 28, 2007 5:40 PM MDT to parent up   0 recs

This might be the situation
for Stanton that works.  Assuming martz will stick around another two years, he'll get excellent coaching without being pressed into action.  Let's also not forget arguably the best wideout tandem in the league...

If Calvin Johnson can work wonders with Reggie Ball, it will be hard for Stanton to fail...

by ohnokoolaid on Apr 28, 2007 5:50 PM MDT   0 recs

Broncos are getting close at 56
I'd actually like to see them take another D-lineman.  There are a good number of options still on the board there.  Having gotten Moss, I like Charles Johnson or Victor Abiamiri here.  I can see them giving a serious look to Ryan Kalil if he is still there.

by MattR on Apr 28, 2007 5:57 PM MDT   0 recs

All three are solid
a few other options are Jason Hill, who was an explosive receiver underneath with speed, Marcus McCauley, who has legit starting upside as a tough press corner, and Eric Wright, who's another press corner but brings some special teams value.  Tanard Jackson is a very nice safety candidate.

Corner isn't a major issue, but someone could be converted to safety full time.

by ohnokoolaid on Apr 28, 2007 6:00 PM MDT to parent up   0 recs

Errr
Why exactly does JAX want another LB?

by WABronco on Apr 28, 2007 5:57 PM MDT   0 recs

Coming up at 56
While maybe it's not a big need, I'm very intrigued by Quentin Moses.

by BroncoManiac44 on Apr 28, 2007 6:01 PM MDT   0 recs

He is on my list of DE's I like
Had we not taken Moss I would have been all over Moses at 56.  But I think his game is a bit too similar to Moss's to take them both.

by MattR on Apr 28, 2007 6:05 PM MDT to parent up   0 recs

Hmm
That would classify as "overkill" IMO.  We've got two rushends right now, do we need a third at the expense of our other needs?

by WABronco on Apr 28, 2007 6:06 PM MDT to parent up   0 recs

Are there any more dreadlocked players
for Tennessee left?

by ohnokoolaid on Apr 28, 2007 6:08 PM MDT   0 recs

Chris Henry in the second round
lol @ Tennessee.

They got sucked in by the forty time and didn't care about at all about the sub-4 YPC.

by BroncoManiac44 on Apr 28, 2007 6:09 PM MDT   0 recs

Any volunteers...
To do the write up of our #56 pick???

by TheSportsGuru on Apr 28, 2007 6:10 PM MDT   0 recs

Dude...
You're solid at it, so if it isn't too much to ask....

by TheSportsGuru on Apr 28, 2007 6:20 PM MDT to parent up   0 recs

Steve Smith
is still sitting here. I haven't really given the guy much thought. I think I'll continue to do that.

by BroncoManiac44 on Apr 28, 2007 6:11 PM MDT   0 recs

nice jinx
and a nice pick for the Giants.

by MattR on Apr 28, 2007 6:15 PM MDT to parent up   0 recs

Rumor has it that safety will be the pick
Or that's what Denver radio thinks...

If we pick Piscitelli...shudder.

by WABronco on Apr 28, 2007 6:15 PM MDT   0 recs

I'm not going to suggest drafting anybody anymore
They seem to keep getting snatched up when I start wondering how they would look in blue and orange.

Well, using that theory...

How about Piscitelli? Woohoo!

by BroncoManiac44 on Apr 28, 2007 6:16 PM MDT   0 recs

Raider/Lions trade
Raiders get Josh McCown and Mike Williams.  Not sure what they gave up

by MattR on Apr 28, 2007 6:17 PM MDT   0 recs

Woooooowwwww
That's encouraging. What a locker room. Porter/Moss/Williams.

by BroncoManiac44 on Apr 28, 2007 6:19 PM MDT to parent up   0 recs

Hmmm
I bet Cleveland plucks Soliai...

by WABronco on Apr 28, 2007 6:24 PM MDT   0 recs

Maybe Eric Wright
Do they still need a center cuz Kalil is still there?

by MattR on Apr 28, 2007 6:27 PM MDT to parent up   0 recs

I suck at guessing
Anwyays...

Ahahahaha KC's dream pick disappears before their eyes!

by WABronco on Apr 28, 2007 6:28 PM MDT to parent up   0 recs

Broncos coming up...
Who we got???
Tanard Jackson would be a nice pick, unless you want another DE, like Crowder or Johnson...

by TheSportsGuru on Apr 28, 2007 6:33 PM MDT   0 recs

How about both?
I might lean towards Jackson now, since so many ends are still on the board, and Soliai.  If Denver gets Jackson and Crowder, and then a guy like Echols or Leonard tomorrow, the line will be pretty well set.

Of course, we could still pursue Jenkins...

by ohnokoolaid on Apr 28, 2007 6:37 PM MDT to parent up   0 recs

I'd prefer Johnson in that case
but Tanard Jackson, as mentioned earlier, would be a very nice pickup.

by BroncoManiac44 on Apr 28, 2007 6:33 PM MDT   0 recs

Actually
checking the board, Josh Wilson is also on the board. He brings explosive return skills, but I'm uneasy with him as a CB.

by BroncoManiac44 on Apr 28, 2007 6:35 PM MDT to parent up   0 recs

Seattle gets lucky
Still have a great G on the board...Arron Sears.

This is going to be an interesting pick.

by WABronco on Apr 28, 2007 6:36 PM MDT   0 recs

Um...no?
He was the seocnd pick of the second round.

by ohnokoolaid on Apr 28, 2007 6:38 PM MDT to parent up   0 recs

Nice...
I can thank NFL Network for that mess up...if you're not watching attentively, you can't freakin' tell when a pick is up.

by WABronco on Apr 28, 2007 6:43 PM MDT to parent up   0 recs

Ahahaha
Just noticed that Trent Edwards was in Los Gatos, California.

by BroncoManiac44 on Apr 28, 2007 6:38 PM MDT   0 recs

Sure is...
Though I think Eslinger could be a solid center in a couple of years....

by TheSportsGuru on Apr 28, 2007 6:43 PM MDT   0 recs

Eslinger is over in NFL Europe
While Kalil could come in and be the next heir apparent to Tom Nalen.

by BroncoManiac44 on Apr 28, 2007 6:44 PM MDT   0 recs

Nice!!!
We now have two new starting ends!

by ohnokoolaid on Apr 28, 2007 6:45 PM MDT   0 recs

NICE
WE are killin' it today!  Adios crappy DL depth!  Hello young talent!

by WABronco on Apr 28, 2007 6:45 PM MDT   0 recs

Loadin up on the talent
I'll live with Tim Crowder. If both Moss and Crowder turn out to be studs, we could be a ridiculously talented defense.

by BroncoManiac44 on Apr 28, 2007 6:45 PM MDT   0 recs

So who's next?
Safety, WR????

by FLBroncoFan on Apr 28, 2007 6:48 PM MDT   0 recs

Jason Hill
Was a guy we had discussed a while ago. He's still in play, so maybe we go get him.

by BroncoManiac44 on Apr 28, 2007 6:49 PM MDT   0 recs

Not sure how I feel about Crowder
But I like that we took another DE.  It would not shock me to see Denver take another defensive lineman at 70.  The Broncos seem to be drafting in threes lately.

by MattR on Apr 28, 2007 6:53 PM MDT   0 recs

With all the movement
Think the Broncos might try to move back a little in the 3rd?

by BroncoManiac44 on Apr 28, 2007 6:56 PM MDT   0 recs

Whoa whoa whoa
There are some very interesting guys still on the board. I'm afraid to name em.

by BroncoManiac44 on Apr 28, 2007 7:02 PM MDT   0 recs

Tell me...
I won't tell anyone....

:)

by TheSportsGuru on Apr 28, 2007 7:03 PM MDT to parent up   0 recs

There's a guy in jail...
that shares his namesake.

by BroncoManiac44 on Apr 28, 2007 7:04 PM MDT to parent up   0 recs

that took me quite awhile
But I like what you are thinking, if I am correct in thinking what you are thinking :)

by MattR on Apr 28, 2007 7:08 PM MDT to parent up   0 recs

Certainly isn't Charles Manson
but since we just lost out on Gerald Alexander, Safety from Boise St., we might as well pack it in and go home.

by BroncoManiac44 on Apr 28, 2007 7:10 PM MDT to parent up   0 recs

Need a centerfielder
As was said several days ago, a centerfielder who can learn from Lynch would be a good fit and is a bigger need than a receiver who can return kicks, at least at this stage of the draft.  If they don't get a deep coverage safety, has there been any talk of moving Foxworth to free safety?

by Arctic Bronco on Apr 28, 2007 7:06 PM MDT   0 recs

Didn't we try that?
During last season when the Safeties had a run of season ending injuries. I thought we moved Foxworth back to safety for a few games.

by BroncoManiac44 on Apr 28, 2007 7:08 PM MDT to parent up   0 recs

We did...
and Foxy hated it....He really isn't suited for it either, size-wize...

by TheSportsGuru on Apr 28, 2007 7:10 PM MDT to parent up   0 recs

Can't blame him
I like him more at the corner spot, too. I'm intrigued by this Hamza Abdullah kid. Honestly, I just want it to be training camp. I miss watchin the guys on the field.

by BroncoManiac44 on Apr 28, 2007 7:12 PM MDT to parent up   0 recs

Obscenities were just thrown at my TV
I REALLY like Dan Bazuin. He's one of those guys I can't explain why I like him, I just have a good feeling.

by BroncoManiac44 on Apr 28, 2007 7:17 PM MDT   0 recs

Diary is up
on Crowder.  It could use a pic though.

by ohnokoolaid on Apr 28, 2007 7:18 PM MDT   0 recs

Wonderful idea
The Packers would make a great move by selecting Michael Bush

by BroncoManiac44 on Apr 28, 2007 7:22 PM MDT   0 recs

and as I say that
they go with Brandon Jackson. Oooook

by BroncoManiac44 on Apr 28, 2007 7:23 PM MDT to parent up   0 recs

Lynch
says Abdullah could be a Pro-Bowler in two years. Our team has TONS of guys with high ceilings. If even half pan out well be set. These guys, in my opinion, include(in no specific order):

1.)Moss
2.)Dumervil
3.)Marshall
4.)Cutler
5.)Schefler
7.)Crowder
8.)Abdullah
9.)Foxy
10.)D.J.(position change)
11.)Nate Webster
12.)Mike Bell

Cutler roles left, fires deep down field, and hits Marshall in the endzone.

by broncodude793 on Apr 28, 2007 7:23 PM MDT   0 recs

I LOVE
that you included Webster on that list. I think he can be a really strong LB for us. I like the list, but think that most Broncos fans are overrating Dumveril. He had 3 of h
