The 2007 NFL Draft Day Open Thread and Diary -- ROUND 3

Raiders strike early, getting a solid DE in Quentin Moses.  Early on Moses was actually projected to the Broncos in the First Round, only to see his stock fall.  Solid value, unfortunitely, for Al Davis....

Broncos back on the clock, with needs still at WR, OL and Safety....What will they do??

They decide to address O-Line, drafting Ryan Harris, OT from Notre Dame. Writeup soon to come...

A new Poll is out...Are you happy with the Broncos haul in the first round?? Let me know....

I could
us maybe trading down a few spots.

Hey hey!
We had somebody call the Ryan Harris pick not too long ago. Nicely done.

by BroncoManiac44 on Apr 28, 2007 7:48 PM MDT   0 recs

Hmmm
Definitely not the sexy pick, but fills a need.

by WABronco on Apr 28, 2007 7:49 PM MDT   0 recs

pretty much my thought
Would not have minded trading down and getting another pick.  Don't like not picking again for 100 picks.

by MattR on Apr 28, 2007 7:51 PM MDT to parent up   0 recs

I feel for the Redskins fans.
Pick number 6 is soon followed up by...pick 143. That's rough.

by BroncoManiac44 on Apr 28, 2007 7:54 PM MDT to parent up   0 recs

Jets fans in a similar boat
After their traded they have to wait from 47 to 177.

by MattR on Apr 28, 2007 7:57 PM MDT to parent up   0 recs

But...
has anybody ever felt bad for a New York fan of any kind?

by BroncoManiac44 on Apr 28, 2007 8:02 PM MDT to parent up   0 recs

What about safety?
I'm confused. Weren't we supposed to be denfensive minded? I mean, if you look at this offense in a few years, LOOKOUT! Now the D is Baily + Bly + Blitzing = hope. Got Colts written all over it.

They must really...
like Abdullah....The Broncos always do a nice job with undrafted free agents as well...

My second "who" moment
courtesy of their pick of Jacoby Jones.  It had the bonus feature of "from where?" since he is from Lane College

by MattR on Apr 28, 2007 8:02 PM MDT   0 recs

wow. time to walk away from the computer
I could've sworn that I typed out that the Houston Texans made this pick.  Definitely time to callit a night.  Decent draft.  I like the picks, but not the trades and/or lack of them.

by MattR on Apr 28, 2007 8:06 PM MDT to parent up   0 recs

Terrible.
Hate taking Harris instead of Doug Free (OT, Northern Illinois) here... all in all, I'm really starting to not like this draft for us.  I feel the trade up to secure Moss was almost certainly unnecessary, the drafting of another DE (even though I like Crowder) was redundant and we picked the wrong tackle.  You could also add in the fact that we didn't make a move to catch a falling Branch as the icing on this cake of mediocrity.  Let me just make it clear that I don't think this is a BAD draft, it's just not to my liking and I definitely believe we could (and should) have done better.

Ahmen!
You have just explained my feelings. I'm trying to be positive.

Enormous reach
by Baltimore to draft Yamon Figurs.

The round

Heh
Did the guy with the Carolina jersey just flip off ESPN?

Harris diary up
and again, pic please.

My favorite Tank
Just went to Kansas City. Damnit.

by BroncoManiac44 on Apr 28, 2007 8:28 PM MDT   0 recs

He's a waste
He looked average at the Senior Bowl, and PFW all but flat out states he won't make it in the NFL.

Thus far, the Chiefs have a wave tackle in McBride that lacks starting qualities, and a poor character in Tyler.  The Chiefs have a long history of wiffing on tackles, this year looks no different.

Ryan Sims!
Still one of my favorite KC picks. That and Sylvester Morris. Those two were awesome.

Boy or boy
has Daymeion Hughes PLUMMETED in the last few months. It's reminiscient of when Brandon Browner fell out of the draft completely.

by BroncoManiac44 on Apr 28, 2007 8:41 PM MDT   0 recs

Hughes has major speed concerns
that were highlighted in the season opener against Tennessee.  He shouldn't have been looked at so highly in the first place.

40 times are only irrelevant if you've shown game speed.  Sadly, he hasn't, BUT, if he landed on a team like Indy, where he's only covering short zones, he could make a name for himself.

by ohnokoolaid on Apr 28, 2007 8:43 PM MDT to parent up   0 recs

Oh
I wouldn't even begin to think about drafting him. I just find it amazing that some guys are really highly thought of in February and then come time for the actual draft, you see em sliding towards Day Two and you think "Jeeze, what happened to this kid?"

by BroncoManiac44 on Apr 28, 2007 8:44 PM MDT to parent up   0 recs

OhNo
You manage to catch some of the Rox game tonight?

by BroncoManiac44 on Apr 28, 2007 8:51 PM MDT   0 recs

I saw Tulo's homer
which did it for me.

I'm not going to lie, I'm a huge Tulo fan.  Living in Tulsa and having watched him live over a dozen times, I really think he'll be a solid player.

I'm an even bigger Stewart fan...

by ohnokoolaid on Apr 28, 2007 9:06 PM MDT to parent up   0 recs

Some bad luck was in store tonight
And I can't wait for Stewart.

by BroncoManiac44 on Apr 28, 2007 9:11 PM MDT to parent up   0 recs

Yea
I watched Jeff Weaver meltdown for the 20th time this year.  SOLID.  At least that chumps on a one year deal and can be easily DFA'd.

I took Tulo with my last pick in my fantasy league...

by WABronco on Apr 28, 2007 9:17 PM MDT to parent up   0 recs

Be patient
Tulo is starting to turn it around.

I got Alex Gordon in the ninth round in my draft, and I'm still expecting big returns.

by ohnokoolaid on Apr 28, 2007 9:19 PM MDT to parent up   0 recs

What the....
Why the heck does Buffalo take Edwards?  Losman finally started to look like a QB, now they cut his legs out from under him.

Whateva, not my team.

And Oakland takes Mario Henderson, one of the few remaining LT prospects.  Glad we got ours when we did...

by WABronco on Apr 28, 2007 8:57 PM MDT   0 recs

Seriously
That really baffled me. Sure, they DID trade Kelly Holcomb to Philly, but damn.

by BroncoManiac44 on Apr 28, 2007 8:59 PM MDT   0 recs

There goes Hughes
AND Wolfe. Good call on the Indy, OhNo.

by BroncoManiac44 on Apr 28, 2007 9:06 PM MDT   0 recs

I didn't see that
I guess I'll pat myself on the back then.  Indy is very good at finding corners to match their scheme.  Now if they can cash in better when they lose them, as they did with Jason David, they'll be better for it.

by ohnokoolaid on Apr 28, 2007 9:17 PM MDT to parent up   0 recs

Another great selection by Oakland
This is two years in a row that they've done better outside round one than I thought they would.  Luckily, they haven't bagged any immediate contributors for the o-line.

by ohnokoolaid on Apr 28, 2007 9:20 PM MDT   0 recs

Wow
Oakland did great today...so did San Fran.

For our 6th rounder, I'm hoping a guy like Eric Frampton falls to us.  I'm sure we'll have some adequate options at safety...

by WABronco on Apr 28, 2007 9:20 PM MDT   0 recs

If I've learned anything today
it's that Keyshawn has a future in the talking head business.  He offers much more than Irvin, actually giving insight to how the game is played rather than a series of colloquialisms.

I could do without Kornheiser, but Johnson will be just fine on the Monday Night Studio crew in 2008.

by ohnokoolaid on Apr 28, 2007 9:24 PM MDT   0 recs

Oh man
There's a list of e-mails sent by angry Dolphins fans about the Ted Ginn pick. That's some good reading material.
