What do you guys think of drafting a WR in the first round?
I know that most of you will probably disagree with me on this one, but I feel that since we are atleast 2 years away from reaching the super bowl, we need to surround Cutler with as many good offensive players as possible. I think that we can trade down from #12 to say #17-19, and draft Bowman from Okla. St. He would be another big target with good hands, just like Marshall, but he has more speed and can go deep better than Marshall. We could potentially trade down again, from #17-19 to say 26-27 and draft James Hardy from Indiana. I really believe that Hardy is one of the top 2 receivers in the draft. He is 6'7 will descent speed and great hands. He could add a dimension to the Denver offense that Denver has never had in its history: a guy you can just throw the ball up to. In a few years, he could be the best deep threat in the league. Think about Marshall, Hardy and Stokely in the slot. I know we can address WR by signing Berrian from Chicago for example, but I think that Bowman and Hardy are just too good to pass up. And if we traded down twice, and nabbed Hardy, we would have an incredible amount of draft picks to address every other area on the team. In my opinion, lets LOAD UP on offense for Cutler's benefit, then put the pieces together on defense.

I Don't Mind...
P.S.: Still think Kenny Phillips at #12 is the right move...

Hi there.
There is a very long discussion about WR a few threads down, you could take a look at that one if you want, too.

No, for two reasons
2.) Second, and mainly, we already have a #1 WR we only need a good backup. It is does not make since to draft a backup in the first.

I could put my entire philosphy for this draft int
DON'T REACH!!
They could take a kicker in the first if they weren't reaching, and I wouldn't bat an eye. (Okay, maybe a small bat, and a breathless "WTF??". But after that I'm sure I would be cool...)

I vote for a player on defense.
I agree with Calvin that our draft history of WRs isn't too good
I agree with Ejruiz that I really like Phillips (and a couple of DTs too).
Mdierk and Amir make good points too about needs for defense.
Still, I'm like most fans. I'm going to probably get excited about whoever we get (unless it's Styg's kicker; lol) in the first round, even if it is for a position I don't think we need.

There is a great sig over on the Texans blog:
I like this sentiment, and I would support a 1st round WR, if there were one who was not a reach at #12.
Still thinking about the possibility of trading down a few spots in the first if Philips is gone or could be had a spot or two later. That in my mind seperates the great GMs from the pack...

While I am hesitant to go WR in the first
Depending on how the draft goes and what picks we can get by trading down, I am not completely opposed. If the Broncos have LB's and DT's targeted for the 2nd or 3rd round and they can get a couple extra picks to grab those guys then I fully support a non-need pick with our first pick.
