Do you think that Champ...
will stay at corner forever or will he move to FS later on and if so when (a la Rod Woodson)...
I personally would love to see Champ at FS...
1. He can tackle
2. He can come down and man up on a slot or te leaving LBs to blitz...
3. We would finally have the ballhawking Safety we have been craving since Atwater left (he wasnt a ballhawk but he was a Great Safety
4. I would love to see Fs..Champ SS....Mcree and our corners of Bly, Paymah and Jack "MFing" Williams (i love his nickname) playing press coverage all game, f a zone, straight man all day with champ over the top
OR we can DRAFT A FREAKIN SAFETY DAMMIT :)

Maybe one day
When he loses a step. He is far too valuable at the moment though.

I have to say
Probably not. Champ has spent many years as a top corner. What i think is more likely is when Champ feels he has lost a step he will step down himself. I think Champ will stay a corner th rest of his career unless some coach or mentor can convince him otherwise. When he feels its time to not be a starter he will retire!

Yeah, I don't see it either.
I don’t think Champ has quite the build that Woodson did. I see Champ as more the Darrell Green type. At least I hope so.

get over this
This is so tired. Why is it so hard for some to realize Champ is putting the team FIRST. I know what a novel effing concept. His coaches are telling him what to play on whats best for the BRONCOS right now. What a sel;fish punk Champ, by putting team first. Lets trade him, right?????

I don't see it
I think sfaety gets too much punishment, not that Champ is afraid of contact, but I think his body is really not built to be a sfatey long tearm and have violent collisions over the middle. If you look at his tackling, he almost always goes low and usally he is tacling at the line of scrimmage where the ball carrier or WR doesn’t have a head of steam built up. If he can add 20 lbs of muscle, then maybe, but right now I think he is a little to thin to play the position.

I agree with that assessment
And the idea of moving Champ to safety has crossed my mind several times. He has such great ball skills and an understanding of the game. Mentally, he reminds me of John Lynch. For that reason, I’d like to see Denver let him play more zone in the middle of the field on obvious passing situations (especially when playing a team like NO without a stud WR you need Champ to shutdown).
Instead of moving Bly into the slot all the time, change it up and put Champ there sometimes – and vary the coverages he plays. Or another possibility is the inverted Cover 2 where CB’s drop into the deep zones and the safeties come up to play the short ones. Whatever you do, make the QB have to think about where Champ is gonna be and what he is gonna do.

not to mention
that it is harder to find a corner with even Champ’s diminished skills.
Broncos fans sometimes think that good safeties are rare. Not quite true. But it has been so long since Denver prioritized the position (we got lucky with Lynch) that they certainly HAVE been rare…in blue and orange…

Very true

The day that we get a true, effective cover safety is the day that this defense takes off (though right now we could really use a DT). I don’t think Champ will eve move to safety. When his skills diminsh enough for him to no longer be effective as a corner, he would then (likely) not be the best prospect for SAF either.

draft a safety
we definitely could use more talent there. besides, if paymah becomes our starting corner, i’m going to have to find another hobby.

I agree, but obviously we may also need to look at CB in the draft
Can’t have too many good CB and if you draft some bigger guys, you can always look at converting them to safety.

Please, please, please
do not lose sight of the D-Line, however. Draft a safety, but get d-line FIRST.
