Upset Picks of Week 6

After two brutalizing weeks, I hope to turn things around this week with several upset picks.  I flip flopped a few times, but these upset picks come directly from my cash league and may not reflect what I picked on MHR.  We do our picks earlier on MHR than I do on the Yahoo league I do and I tend to make a few key adjustments during the week.

Last Week: 1-3
Overall Record: 5-6

Star-divide

First Tier Upsets:

Dallas @ Arizona

I initially picked Dallas here like every other Tom, Dick, and Harry out there(Except Guru of course).  The thing is, after doing some reasearch I have found that the Cardinals have won seven of their last ten games at home and the Cowboys have been exposes over the past few weeks.  I see a shoot out developing with Arizona taking control late and the Cowboys imploding with a TO sized meltdown.  I got the Cardinals by 10 in the most shocking upset of the week.

Other possible high risk upset picks I did not decide to pursue:

Atlanta over Chicago
San Francisco over Philadelphia
Cincinnati over New York Jets

Second Tier Upsets:

Baltimore at Indianapolis

This is my scariest pick.  One never really knows when Peyton Manning and the Colts are going to awake from their early season slumber, but I think it may happen next week after a loss to the Ravens.  Baltimore's veteran defense and consistent QB play have vaulted this team into contention after most everyone had written them off during the offseason.  Ravens by 2.

Green Bay at Seattle

To me, this game is only a risky pick because 75% of all Yahoo! users picked Green Bay.  So to pick Seattle is a risk by a large margin, especially if they lay another fat egg.  When I initially took Green Bay I didn't even think about Holmgren and homefield advantage.  I'll take Seattle one last time...if they lose this game they will have become a bad football team, officially.  Seachickens by 3.

Miami @ Houston

I just can't believe that so many homers are jumping on the Dolphin bandwagon.  Houston may be 0-4, but they could easily be 3-1 right now.  The back luck ends this week as the high flying Dolphins finally get harpooned.  I don't even think this game is close, but let's say the Texans by 7.  Let's hope I don't end up looking like the homer come Monday!!

Third Tier Upsets:

Carolina @ Tampa Bay

This game really is a coin toss.  I choose the home team because I think Carolina is due for a let down.  Tampa is coming off of a tough loss, but they have their leader back under center and the Bucs play rough at home.  Everyone is high on the Panthers right now and for that reason a Buccaneer pick will be a somewhat risky one.  This game will be a nail biter, but I think the Buccaneers win with a late FG by 1.  I'll be rooting for Matt Bryant in this one...

I feel much better about my picks this week. Last week, only the Broncos saved me from getting shut out.  This week, I'm hoping for another 14-2 baby!

Hey, Zappa, what's up

long time… I’ve reverted back to lurking lately. Also, I find that there’s so much to read on the site, I don’t have much time to comment anymore. =/

Anyways, I like your weekly segment, particularly because I’m always looking to pick the upsets in my upickem league as well.

This week, I’ve got SF as my upset special. Philly got manhandled last week, are really banged up, and they have to make the long trip to the West coast.

I agree with you on Houston, I don’t see the AZ upset happening, you convinced me on the TB pick and I switched, and my only other upset is NE over SD (SD’s banged up and I think there’s some wishful hoping involved as well).

I find it insane that some ppl have picked Cleveland to upset the G-men.

I concur on all the content on MHR. If I didn't have a state job, I'd never have the time to keep up with it all! ! lol

I wanted to pick San Francisco, but I got burned on them last week. lol I’ve had two really bad weeks…hoping to turn it around this week though! ;-) I am still tempted to switch my pick to NE…but I don’t think I’ll decide on that one until tomorrow sometime. The more I read, the more I don’t like San Diego. Not that I didn’t like them much to begin with.

Good luck on the pick’em leagues…the one I am in is brutal. I am ranked in the bottom half of a 35 person group… need a couple of strong weeks to get back into the thick of things.

lol... I need the change jobs

Yea, if you’re getting close to your MHR score and are still at the bottom of your league, that’s rough! I was doing pretty well as of about two weeks ago, then I got a freakin’ 6 (6!!!) and then a niner last week. I’m still near the top of my group though… ;)

BTW, I like our upickem program b/c we have a survivor game-within-the-game. You guys should do that next year on MHR.

you know what you should do with your formatting zappa?

You should consider listing all the games according to what level of upset it would be, then selct the likely upsets and give your reasons. it would be a little more comprehensive.

hmmm…looks like my shift key isn’t working… everytime i take my keyboard apart to fix something, i lose another key… and i’m not even an e.e.cummings fan…

Yea...I am lazy with that. I will toy with it next week.

I’ve basically stuck with what I consider upset picks….picks that I considered taking. All the rest, I didn’t consider at all. :)

i got sf

Westbrook is out and IMO he is their best offensive player. Also McNabb has not thrown a 2nd half TD in 15 consecutive games. Another one is Baltimore over Indy. Indy sucks like a hoover.

somethings wrong, Trying to conquer these fears i thought were gone. And it's been so long, I'm dying to live in a world i don't belong

Yea, I would have too except Tom Brady was out and he is New England's best weapon yet SF got burned....

more importantly, I got burned by SF by picking them last week. I am vindictive like that…which probably hurts my percentage but I am what I am. lol

Those are some good ones.

I personally think SF,ATL, and CAR will be the best ones to pull of the upset. SF offense has grown and since the Eagles have a hard time scoring in the red zone lately I don’t see them winning….plus it isn’t in PHI.

I think the Miami “Wildcat” Dolphins are going to come up short this week depite how they have played lately. I just can’t see Kubiak and the Texans going winless for too much longer.

I picked Baltimore in the upset for the same reasons you did

and missed Peyton’s coming out party by a week!

That one didn’t hurt as much as the skins losing to the rams. I had 15 points on them in my confidence weighting pool!

I'm not counting the Seahawk loss. I made these predictions BEFORE Matt Hasslebeck's injury...

I switched my pick to GB before kick off….for the record. lol Damn Manning…I’ve hated him since the early 2000’s….for obvious reasons. ;-)
