Which Teams a Broncos Fan Should Cheer For (week six)

question marks you rtardQuestion marks the spot question marks

So you're sitting there wondering which game to watch, and Denver isn't available.  Which team do you cheer for if you want the outcome to help Denver?  No problem; MileHighReport.com has you covered.

Remember, this has nothing to do with which teams we like or hate.  It is purely based on what outcomes best position Denver for the playoffs, and a good seeding once there.

We're also rating the games on how important they are for Denver fans.  For instance, a Denver game, or a game that features a Denver division rival, gets near a 5, while a less important game gets a 1.  So given a choice of several games, you now know which one is more important to watch!  (Teams for Denver fans to cheer for are in CAPS).

Let's feed the schedule into MHR's Super Computer and see what results we get...

Star-divide

CIN at nyj (2) - Root for the team with the lesser record

MIA at hou (2.5) - While MIA has the better record, we don't play hou but we do play mia.  A good record for MIA helps DEN in tie breaks.

chi at ATL (2.25) - We want ATL to have a good record for tie break reasons because we play them this year, but we don't play chi.

DET at min (1) - Anything to keep the better team from advancing.

car at TB (3.5) - We've beaten TB already, and not yet played car.  Also, car has the better record.  We need TB to have a good record because we've beaten them already.

bal at ind (0 / pick) - bal barely edges ind in Conference rankings, but boh AFC teams don't play us, nor do their records concern us at this point in the season.  Pick the team that you think is the lesser team.

oak at NO (4.5) - Always root against the AFC West rivals of DEN.  Also, root for NFC teams over the AFC, especially since we've beaten that team.

STL at was (1.75) - The same reasoning as (DET at min), with slightly more importance given the disparity between these two teams.

jax at DEN (5) - ALWAYS cheer for DEN.

gb at SEA (1) - Cheer for the lesser team.

dal at ARI (1.25) - Go for the team with the lesser record.  Both teams have good records, but DAL might be the bigger threat in a potential SB match-up.  dal is currently ranked one team behind DEN in the NFL's tie break proceedures.

phi at SF (1) - SF is ranked two teams behind SF in tie breaks, but have very little impact on DEN.

NE at sd (4.5) - Always root against AFC West rivals of DEN.  If we can then beat NE, a loss by sd tonight will very much hurt sd's tie break chances against us.

NYG at cle (3.75) - Always root for the NFC over the AFC (helps if we need a tie break for a wild card spot against a team like cle).

By the way, it is worth noting that not only has Denver done well so far this season, but many tie break games have gone our way (such as the decline of SD, INDY, and NE).  The MHR Super Computer sends its appreciation for everyone that has used the services to pick which games have the most impact for DEN, and cheering the right teams to victory (or, as is the case most often, to defeat).

Cheers!

As always...

the picks in this column aren’t the teams I always root for. I like the AFC teams better, for the most part, than the NFC teams. I also have some favorites that are distant seconds to the Broncos. The picks also include a lot of underdogs, so it isn’t a good list for picking teams for bets either. However, as the season moves forward, the games in this column will be very critical in determining if Denver gets in the playoffs, and what seed they will be.

At season’s end, I’ll be pulling out my hair er, uhm… the super computer will have to work dilligently to determine the complex groupings of teams required o win and lose to most benefit Denver.

I only put up the column...

…for the verrrrrry unlikely event that we go less than 15-1 in the regular season.

: )

I choose Houston over Miami

I would like to see Kubes finally get a win.

Victor Frankl:

What man actually needs is not a tensionless state but rather the striving and struggling for some goal worthy of him. What he needs is not the discharge of tension at any cost, but the call of a potential meaning waiting to be fulfilled by him.

Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms – to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way.

On a personal level I agree.

The computer is only focused on helping Denver win tie breaks for the playoffs and seeding.
