MHR Bronco-Con 2009 -- Preliminary Investigation - PLEASE RESPOND

There has been talk of a get together among members of MileHighReport, something I have been hoping to do for awhile.  Sometimes it is better to find out from the community if something is worthy, and the response to Denver Diehard's Fanpost about such an even has proven that many of you would be interested.  If this is going to happen, however, it has to be done right, and committed to 100%.  Anything else would be unworthy of the site, and most importantly, the community.

A couple things -

1.  What do you guys think of the name?  I am very "in" to branding, and MHR has become the brand of the website and community.  I also try to avoid any slogan that could be trademarked.  Let me know your thoughts in the comments.  Having something like MHR Bronco-Con also makes it easier for T-Shirt creation.

2.  There is a poll attached to this FanPost.  Please respond, even if you are just a lurker.  We need to get a firm idea of the actual interest.  This would be a huge undertaking, and for those that are interested and would actually make the trip the cost and personal commitment are deserving of knowing what they are getting in to.  That said, many of you have been looking for a good reason to head to Denver anyway, so why not during Training Camp 2009?

3.  The date is perfect.  Training Camp is a great time to be in Denver, minus trying to get to an actual game.  Several of the other SBNation sites have "Night's Out" at games but that is alot easier during a 82 or 162 game season.  Perhaps if this was something that interested you guys we could make it during Pre-Season.  If not, training camp is solid, and let's face it, we would definitely have the best Training Camp coverage in the NFL!

4.. Next Steps.  I will leave this Poll active for about a week just to gauge everyone's interest.  Please be as truthful as possible.  I know things come up, but if you really think this is something you would attend I would like to know.  That way we can get a firm grasp on how involved this thing needs to be.  I don't want a bunch of "Maybe's" so I am leaving that out of the poll.  Try and make your best guess, and even if you are a lurker, we'd love to have you!!!

More to come, and it is my hope that this is the beginning of an awesome event!  Please "REC" this post so it stays at the top.  I want asa many of you to see it as possible!!!

One question: Can we learn each others' real names there?

It would be more than a little uncomfortable to have multiple grown men calling me “Papi.”

I don’t think I could make it in 2009 for financial reasons(I live in Japan and am quite poor, unfortunately). If it were 2010 I could make it. Are you guys just doing this just once, or would it be an annual thing?

I imagine future events would be based...

…on the sucess of the first event. We have a lot of sharp minds, good connections, and great people. Guru is a terrific leader, and we have the staff and members that can get with the Broncos, put on seminars, line up entertainment, and make this thing work.

If you can’t make it in ’09, I would imagine that ’10 will be spectacular too.

I think he said the comment with that in mind

Because much of the ’Con’s are video game, fantasy, or comic related: Blizz-con, Comic-con, or Dragon-con.

It really will be fun either way, so it’s no problem what we name it, but I thought that Mile High Meetup or Mile High Rendezvous, or whatever works well.

We could attract alot of new MHR members..

With a great BBQ. It would be really cool if the Broncos front office would let us have a tailgating type thing in the parking lot to help bring in a new season. IMO, it’s just a thought.

Purple Row - Covering all your Rockies needs!

by Russ Oates on Oct 14, 2008 9:04 AM MDT reply actions

I'm planning on being there

My son and I were planning on going to a Rockies series sometime around that timeframe (I’m hoping they are in town during that time). We were hoping that it would coincide with Training Camp and the Bronco-Con (or whatever) would be that much more of a deciding factor in trying to get there during that time.

The Rockies series is the original intention of us going to Denver, so if they’re not in town the time of the get together, we’d probably have to back out. If it’s close to the time of a home series, we may be able to stretch it :-D

According to the preliminary schedule

the Rockies are home July 24-26 (last weekend of July), then leave, and won’t be back in town until August 7. In between those days the Rockies are here in New York, and I’m not going to miss attending that four-game series against the Mets at Citi Field. As much as I like the Broncos, I’ll always want to watch the Rockies more (yes, even if they lose).

I'll make it happen.

I don’t fly, so the drive will be long and arduous, but I think it would make it all that much more worthwhile. I have family in Utah also, so I could swing by and say visit for a day. I’ll have plenty of vacation time saved up by then…plus I got comp time for the overtime I have accrued. Count me in!

PS That is unless the entire economy collapses and society breaks down into a second Great Depression…then I probably will be heading for the hills to escape riots and violence. Never know…just covering my arse in case the worst happens. Who knows what this bailout will bring…. ;-)

That is tentative. I still must convince the wife to go to Colorado “again”. We own property in the mountains so I have a good excuse. As I said in a previous post, I would have to schedule some “extracurricular” activities to sway the vote, such as river rafting, kayaking, fly fishing etc.

by DjBroncos on Oct 14, 2008 10:14 AM MDT reply actions

It's a cultural thing.

Men like to joke about “The” wife as if she were some foreboding character in life. Europeans are very sensitive to equality…Americans, not so much. We mock womens lib outwardly, but there is not question who rules the roost in my home. THE wife does. lol

That is just my opinion on the matter. The mocking is very subtle, but true in this case I think.

As stated before, I will assist in anyway possible from Aurora to make this happen. Of course I’ll be there. I also believe that I have several friends that are local Bronco faithful, and would love to attend this thing. Once they got a chance to view the website, I believe they would enjoy getting together with other Bronco “Diehards”.

Since the locals won’t have lodging or travel costs, this “MHR Bronco-con 2009” would be a very affordable thing to do. I don’t know why any locals would not go, but for schedule conflicts.

My wife and I are dying to go back to Colorado! Her best friend is from Greeley and we also have some friends in Denver. Maybe this conference would catapult us into pursuing our next “family vacation.”

I will definitely be there...

Just set the dates and I’ll make the hotel reservation. If the event ends up falling on the weekend, the Denver Tech Center has some really nice hotels and they are way cheaper during the weekend since most of their business comes in for the work week. I usually stay there when I go to the games and I would pay $75 a night for a $150-$200 a night hotel. Just FYI

I don't flyfish......................

But I am addicted to creek fishing. I use an Ultralight pole with about 30 ft of 2lb test line on it. Get a really light hook, no weights and put about 1/4 of a worm on it and float the worm in the current of the creek. With that light of a rig those brook trout feel like 50 pounders. LOL it’s a blast. I haven’t fished much around Denver but I can try to look into some good spots.

I voted yes...

…but it depends on the timing. If it is in August then I should be able to come. July would almost certainly be a no-go, however.

I will be interning with NASA for 10 weeks over the summer, but I don’t know the dates on that yet. I would imagine that it would end around the last week of July or the first week of August. The fall semester doesn’t start until Aug. 19th for me, so anytime between when I get done with my internship and the start of the semester would work for me.

by Tim Lynch on Oct 15, 2008 9:05 AM MDT up reply actions

You would definately love watching at Training Camp

There are two regualr size football fields and one field that is about 1/3rd size. Fans have to sit on a grass hill that runs along side of the main field. The hill is like a burm along the edge, and only about 8’ higher than the field at the highest point. People are roped off at about 10’ back from the sideline, so you are right there where the action is. There is a fence behind at the back of the hill which runs along the full length of the field. So esentially, the fans are coralled on a strip of grass about 30’ deep and 100 yards long.

Some days they have only special teams practice in the afternoon; On these days, you can stand in line and wait to get an autograph after the morning practice is over. Sometimes you can get lucky and a player is standing along the sidelines near the fans and people can “con” an autograph while the player is standing there.

You are a lot closer to the players than you could ever be at a game. I think the players like it because when they make a great catch or other play, we all yell and shout and they players can hear you easily. “Way to go Eddie!!!” It’s a lot of fun.

I’ve seen where people go to the other side by the building and get in line early for a signature, but then you completely miss the practice. There’s a lot to watch while there and it’s definately a recommended experience, even for the casual fan.

I’d have to say that I-40 from Flagstaff through Albuquerque is the most boring road around. At least on I-70 you’ve got some cliffs and mountains to look at, not to mention the section through the San Rafael Swell (which is awesome in a car that can handle).

btw, next time you get pulled over for going 10 MPH over the speed limit…do not admit fault. Just say you thought you were traveling at a safe speed. If you still get a ticket…go to court and you should be able to get it overturned. Cops are trained to try to get you to admit fault…if you do that you are screwed.

I only know this because my little bro is in cop training…there is a limit to this working though. I think if you are over 15 MPH of the posted recommended speed limit then you might have a tougher time justifying your speed. lol

ohhhhh.....I love them, especially how they brought our great nation to economic ruin.

With the rubber stamp of approval from our “leaders” of course. Ok, no more talk about my disdain for Keynesian Economics.

If those bankers

would only have had a bikini thread we wouldn’t be in this mess.

That’s ok with me. We’re playing for wins, not media publicity....HT 9/11/08

You could just hire an attorney

I don’t know how traffic attorneys work out there, but around here they typically charge ~$100 on top of the ticket and they’ll represent you.

I know in NC they can typically plead up to 15 over to a non-moving violation like improper equipment.

This is such a great idea--it would be the perfect chance to prove I'm a bigger idiot than Zappa.

Not only that my daughter was transfered to Denver this year—so I have a place to stay.

Let’s do it spring training—its hard to get time off late summer in the car industry—if there’s still a car industry next year.

The best defense is a good offense!
I hope.

You know....we need to get ahold of Shanny....he's got a nice large 35,000 square foot mansion

with several guest houses to boot. Let’s get him to have us over for a weekend…save on hotel costs at least. lol TSG, pull them strings man! heheh

I know I will forget this so I have to post as a reminder.

We should have a trivia contest as one of the events. There are a ton of options depending on the number of people interested. We can do individual or groups/teams. Or have different difficulty levels. Or a family oriented version.

Thats a great idea Matt.....................

It will give us younger fellas a chance to learn Broncos History. I love sports trivia anyway, what a blast that would be. I call firstfan and hoosierteacher to be on my team though. LOL

The player who thinks he can and the player who knows he can are two different players, which one are you???

I could drive up from Houston

but the draft will be long over, so my usefulness will be long over.

Done it 5 times

In the last year. I’ve got it down to a science these days.

If I drive

I could be there in about five days. That’s if the Mrs. Firstfan and I trade off driving and we don’t shut off the engine except to check oil.
