Jay Cutler on Philip Rivers, "I'm not a big fan of the guy"
If Jay Cutler is anything, it's outspoken. Not in a brash, T.O., I just like to hear myself talk, kind of way. No, he just answers the questions he is asked honestly. Whether it was about Brandon Marshall "not being one of my favorite people right now" during the off-season, or the strength of his throwing arm compared to a legend, Cutler will tell you what he is thinking.
When Cutler joined the gang of "The Best Damn Sports Show, Period" last week it was no different. This time, Cutler is asked of his feelings for San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers. Needless to say, Cutler let's the guys know exactly what is on his mind --

Rivers is a prick. About time someone called him out.

I love it!!
I think Cutler expresses himself well.
That’s ok with me. We’re playing for wins, not media publicity....HT 9/11/08
This is great for the rivalry!
I like when players don’t like each other. It makes for better drama on the field. Plus, Rivers is a grade A (fill in the blank).
I wish Woody Paige was our coach!
I dont consider
Sd a rival though. It will be nice to have all that hate though when Denver makes those treks to the Chargers new diggs in LA

Is SD our true rival?
No, but that doesn’t mean one can’t blossom. Granted, the Raiders and Chefs will always be the teams we have more historical blood lust for (I mean seriously, even Chargers fans don’t take their team seriously), but in mind rivalries are generational. When I was a growing up, the Browns were our huge rival, yet we don’t even think about them anymore. If both Cutler and Rivers continue to play at a pro-bowl level on playoff caliber teams, then we’re looking at a QB rivalry that should last the better part of the next decade (kind of like Elway v Kosar). And, don’t be surprised if we maintain a good rivalry with da bolts, especially with the state of the Raiders and Chiefs.

Ive have lived here a long time
outside of the media here trying to create rivals with the chargers, there isnt one. From 1983-2005 Denver either split or swept the Chargers, that is the 3rd longest gap on one team not sweeping the other in the history of the NFL. The people here are so hungry for a rival its not even funny. The stadium here has generally been around 25% other teams fans. Maybe they can become a rival, but I am not holding my breath. heck I consider Jax, NE, or even Indy a bigger rival to Denver than SD. Maybe there will be a QB rivalry, but it depends on if Smith can keep this team doing good. I dont have that confidence as others. Spanos is cheap by nature. He had a good run from 92-95 then it fell off big time, and not until 2004 did they start to get good again. its going to fall off. AJ may have a decent eye for talent, but he has no clue on regarding the coaches. He should have kept Marty. Again this is purely my opinion and I base it off the fact the fans here are kind of lame. There are some good diehards, but when the team starts losing they abondon the team, like rats off a sinking ship. I have seen it all to much

I consider SD a rivalry
after the way they’ve been beating us the past two years, and after having to watch endless replays of LT setting the TD record against us, I prefer that the Broncos are pumped up to win this game every time they play.
I just dont see it
I have met more ignorant Charger fans this year than ever before. They have truly started toi hate Denver this year based off the game in Denver and the “Call”. Now I do want them to beat SD every time, but I get pumped for the faders and KC by 100 over a single game against SD. Too me Sd is just another team on the schedule.

Off topic but,
Josh Shaw was suspended for Monday night’s game for detrimental conduct to the team. Some one replying to the article (RMN) said he was suspended for criticizing the team in the media.
Does anyone know what he said?
Michael Fabiano really knows nothing about football outside of regression analysis and stat extrapolation. If it doesn’t have to do with fantasy football, his opinion is worthless.
No, but for a rotational DT who was cut by the Raiders, I have no idea why he would be mouthing off

I think he
got in an argument with a teammate.
If a rotational guy was getting in the secret service’s grill, well, it doesn’t surprise me that the hammer came down… we KNOW the oline is getting their job done so far…

this is kind of stealing the thunder
but does anyone think our D line’s in ability stems from our olines monstrous performance so far?

interesting proposition
are you suggesting that our Dlines self-esteem is low from having to practice against our oline?

My hope is next time we are playing SD
Cutler drops back and fires a ball right into Rivers pie-hole while he is standing on the sideline, that would be classic.
"Me fail english, that unpossible" - Ralph Wiggum
“Cutler drops back and fires a ball right into Rivers pie-hole while he is standing on the side…”
Cutler is the one that needs to shut his pie-hole. That whole incident from last year would have ended after the “cold shoulder handshake” they gave each other in week 2. But, Cutler can’t let it go for some reason. Must be insecurity or inmaturity.
Not to mentioned he called out his own player in the off-season….and then compared himself to Elway. What a tool.
I'll give you a pass Boltheads...BUT....
Look Boltheads, given this is obviously your first post on MHR, I won’t go knee-jerk and accuse you of trolling to the Bronco community but let’s face facts in your assertion of labeling Jay Cutler a “tool”:
1. January 2007: Rivers walked up to Patriots cornerback Ellis Hobbs and called him “the sorriest corner in the league” AFTER losing the divisional playoff game which the Chargers blew at home
2. When Rivers was being booed at home during a game against the Baltimore Ravens, cameras caught Rivers gesturing to San Diego fans and yelling “Shut up!”
3. Rivers was caught on camera jawing it up with Colts fans at the RCA Dome during the final seconds of the divisional playoff game which the Chargers impressively won. Mind you, Rivers was taunting the fans while the game was still going. In addition, Rivers wasn’t even a factor in the game’s outcome because he was knocked out of the game in the 3rd quarter. Yet he still thought it appropriate to get into it with a bunch of Colt fans who were shockingly rooting for the Colts.
4. Rivers was infamously caught on national television taunting the Broncos in their Xmas Eve game last year with particular intent on directing his jawing at Cutler. Rivers claims that Cutler was the one who initiated the most of the animosity that evening but hey, Jay’s not the one who got caught on camera and had his antics replayed in slow motion over and over and over and over again.
In my humble opinion, any one of those 4 incidents would have justified sticking the “tool” label on Rivers any day of the week.
I have no problem with the way Cutler handled himself at the midfield exchange with Rivers prior to the Week 2 game. Cutler genuinely doesn’t like Rivers. I know I would reciprocate the same way if I was forced to shake hands with someone I genuinely did not like.
I assume you’re also bringing up Cutler’s handling of his calling out Brandon Marshall during the offseason. You obviously don’t know the details behind the circumstances which forced Cutler to (what many people in this community firmly believe) act like a leader in a situation which could have been potentially harmful to the team. And look at the results….Brandon Marshall has since responded by playing like an All Pro, including hauling in 18 catches in his first game after serving his one game suspension. Care to remind me, Boltheads, what team that came against? Not only has Marshall been a star on the field, but he has been an exemplary player off it which was even written about in this little known periodical called the New York Times. All of these positive results came about immediately after Jay C had that press conference where he simply said, “Brandon’s not my favorite person right now”.
And do you really want to go there with calling out teammates? If memory serves, I distinctly recall Rivers mouthing off to LT during last year’s game against Tennessee. Smart move given LT has done nothing but make Rivers look as good as many believe he really isn’t.
Now as far as the Elway comparison, even Elway conceded to Cutler’s comments and made absolutely nothing of it. So don’t even try to make anything out of that. Leave that to the mass media which you obviously buy into.
Why don’t we just agree to disagree. We love having Cutler leading our team for the next 10-15 years and you love the illusion that Rivers will one day lead yours. I also suggest that if comments like “What a tool” is all you’re going to come to this group with, then perhaps you should just stay in the shallow end of the pool and put those posts in places such as the Chargers message board on SignOnSanDiego.com.

Jay says it so much better than Rivers.
But does that surprise anyone?
If this be Hell, let us make the most of it!
Cutler's honest
He says it best when he says he doesn’t like the way he carrries himself. Me neither. That is one of the reasons why I don’t like him and after that Christmas Eve game I really don’t like him.

I agree but...
Don’t forget Jay, not only do you have to play them again, you have to do it in San Diego. They were already going to be fired up enough about ‘The Call’, and this will no doubt add more to the mix.
I can’t stand Phyllis either, but I sort of wish Jay had let it lay. Then again, it’s not my problem. All I have to do is sit on the couch and watch, right?
Jay’s a confident guy who speaks his mind and I like it. a good rivalry makes things more interesting. I just hope he’s as prepared as he seems to feel he is for what happens next!
Cutler doesn't like Rivers isn't breaking news.
It is pretty much common knowledge among Bronco fans and Culter has even stated that he wasn’t fond of him before that Christmas Eve game.
Wow, one player doesn’t like another player. What are the odds?

its amazing
When a player is honest and doesnt even criticize the guy he gets ripped. He was asked a question and answered it truthfully. If anyone thinks JC is alone not liking the guy (Douche called Rivers) then you are sadly mistaken

Jay spoke the simple truth
Big deal, he didn’t criticize Rivers at all. He simply answered the question " Hey, he’s not a fan of the guy, and he doesn’t care for some of the things Rivers does on the field".
Big deal, it was a simple truth and his own personal opinion.
People will use this that don’t like the Broncos to say that Cutler is a whiner. I have never seen him complain not once. Nor has he ever said anything negative about anyone except for Marshall, and Marshall needed it.

Everybody else, meaning the media, is going to make a big deal about this next time they play.
But I’m so glad he said this. I rather have him speak the truth over lying and acting like they’re best friends like many players do. Plus nobody outside of San Diego likes Rives so it’s not like he’s revolutionary or something.

Jules: A (Eddie) Royale with cheese! You know why they call it that?

Jules: Check out the big brain on Brett! You're a smart mother******. That's right. The metric system.
