Which Teams a Broncos Fan Should Cheer For (week seven)
So you're sitting there wondering which game to watch, and Denver isn't available. Which team do you cheer for if you want the outcome to help Denver? No problem; MileHighReport.com has you covered.
Remember, this has nothing to do with which teams we like or hate. It is purely based on what outcomes best position Denver for the playoffs, and a good seeding once there.
We're also rating the games on how important they are for Denver fans. For instance, a Denver game, or a game that features a Denver division rival, gets near a 5, while a less important game gets a 1. So given a choice of several games, you now know which one is more important to watch! (Teams for Denver fans to cheer for are in CAPS).
Let's feed the schedule into MHR's Super Computer and see what results we get...
sd at BUF (4.5) - Always cheer against an AFC West rival.
NO at car (2) - We've beaten NO already, so we want them to have a good record (for the "common opponent" tie-break). Also, they have a lesser record than car.
MIN at chi (1) - chi has the lesser record.
pitt at CIN (3) - We want any potential wild card team's chances (or playoff contender) to have as bad a record as possible for seeding purposes.
TEN at kc (4) - Always cheer against an AFC West rival.
bal at MIA (3) - We will be playing MIA, and would like for them to have a good record for the common opponent tie-break.
dal at STL (1.75) - Anything that makes it harder for a good NFC team to get a good seed helps a potential Denver SB drive.
DET at hou (2.75) - Always take the NFC team over an AFC team to help Denver's chances.
ind at GB (3.25) - Always take the NFC team over an AFC team to help Denver's chances.
NYJ at oak (4) - Always cheer against an AFC West rival.
cle at WAS (3) - Always take the NFC team over an AFC team to help Denver's chances.
sea at TB (2.25) - We want TB to have the better record because we've already beaten them.
DEN at ne (5) - Always cheer for Denver.

On a similar note:
“TEN at kc (4) – Always cheer against an AFC West Always take the NFC team over an AFC team to help Denver’s chances rival.”
Long day at the office HT? Or should I let Styg take credit for this as well? But wait, that would go against the slogan, “If it’s good, it has to be Styg” …….. hmm ……..
4-2.

I got home around just before the early games, and had expected to be home yesterday afternoon. Thanks for the catches everyone! (Fixed)

NFC South
NO at car (2) – We’ve beaten NO already, so we want them to have a good record (for the “common opponent” tie-break). Also, they have a lesser record than car.
I believe we are on the NFC South swing so does it really matter who wins this one to us because one team will go up and one goes down?
Go Broncos!

It does.
We haven’t played CAR yet, but we know that we have beaten NO. The lesser ranking is a very small factor to tack on. If we end up beating both teams, we would still want the lesser team to win. The larger factor is our win over NO.

the tiebreakers are
1) Head to head
2) Divisional record (only for ranking within a division)
3) Conference record
4) Record in comon games shared by the tied teams (min 4 games)
5) Strength of Victory
6) Strength of schedule
7-10) There are others
Tiebreaker #5 comes into play in the NO-Car game. Once we beat Carolina in December, this game becomes moot. But if Carolina manages to beat Denver, then a NO win is more valuable that a Car win.
On the other hand, even though we play Miami after the bye I would like to see Miami lose to Buffalo next week so they come into Denver on a three game losing street.
One last thought is that at some point, the root against playoff contenders rule has to become more important that the root against the AFC West rule. If the Buffalo/SD game was in week 15 and Denver already had the division wrapped up then I would excuse rooting for SD if it helps Denver get a first round bye. But let’s cross that bridge when we come to it :)

So far so good...
With the exception of the Raiders, this has been a good week for us. And at this point in the season, it doesn’t look like KC will be making a playoff run, so I cheered for them to upset the Titans, who will be making a playoff run.
