Nobody tells you how bad it is, any person that calls me on the telephone, [I tell them] do not go anywhere near Oakland.
Al Davis knows football -- it's just '60s and '70s football. That's what it is. He's thinking that Cliff Branch is outside and [Jim] Plunkett is dropping back and you can throw it 80 yards down the field -- deep ball, deep ball, deep ball.

You should post this on SABP too...watch all the monkeys turn on Sapp
to defend their crusty old man.

You got us all wrong
we are split on this Al Davis thing. Not all of us are defending him.
I agree with Raider76 on this.
Clearly I’m not a raiders fan. But it seems to me that the worse Al’s mental condition deteriorates, the more raiders fans are seeing that he is a very sick, old man and that he’s hurting hs team. As a human being, apart from sports, I really would like to see Davis get the mental help he needs. He’s clearly paranoid, and has some severe issues.

I know...I am especially hard on Raider fans on MHR...I try to be a little more respectful on SABP.
I know the results of the poll from my recent post on SABP was overwhelmingly in favor of dumping Al Davis over Kiffin. By monkeys I was referring to the raider nation as a whole…SAPB contains mostly intelligent Raider fans. I apologize for being such a dick..

No harm done.
I love my team but Al has has to change. It is upsetting that noone in the organization or his family steps in and tells him the harm he is doing to the organization.
My last couple of posts
on SABP have been pretty critical of Al.
You should find SportsGuru's podcast from this week's show.
The first 30-45 minutes were 100% Raider related, much to the ire of those of us who only wanted to hear about the Broncos. lol It might be the kind of thing Raider fans everywhere should hear. Would they care if “rivals” stopped caring about the Raider organization? Would they care if “rivals” stopped considering the Raiders anything close to a “rival”? Playing the Raiders has become as important as playing the Cardinals in preseason….

You're always welcome over at SaBP Zappa
You should pop over and see what we’re saying about this whole debacle. I’ve been pretty surprised by the lack of support for Al, but he still has his defenders. I think that press conference was the last straw for most of those still clinging to Davis.
If that is the case,
then there may still be hope for the Raider Nation. Only thing left now is for you all to file a class action law suit. ;-)

I'll sue for emotional distress
and all the beer I drank during these tough times!!
heheh, blame your alcoholism on Al Davis. heheh
I blame mine on 2007

Speaking as a Broncos fan,
I wish this was over just as you do. I like the Broncos/Raiders rivalry because it puts meaning behind the games. Technically, the rivalry is still there, but this fiasco really distracts from it. The media treats it like a carnival sideshow, and that’s not good for the AFC West as a whole. Whenever an AFC West team played Oakland, the announcers spent half the time plugging the other shows on the network and half the time ridiculing the situation. Granted, that’s a problem with the announcers, but a resolution would be good.
I want the Raiders to be better. I want the rivalry to have meaning. I want the NFL to schedule the Broncos/Raiders game as the last game of the season on primetime, and I want that game to carry homefield advantage for the winner, and a wild card slot for the loser. Then I want the two teams to meet up again in the AFC championship game with the Super Bowl on the line. That’s a good rivalry.
I commend Oakland fans like you who cheer the team but keep some sanity about the situation. You’re the type I would like to have around when the two teams play: fans who can cheer their team during the game, then share a laugh with opposing fans afterwards.
Well, that’s just me, at least. Thanks for stopping by.
LOL
Thanx 4 the article. It just goes to show what a senile old “has been”, can do to put a "smudge " on an otherwise stellar league!
Interesting to hear from a former Raider.
Sapp said Oakland won’t change for the better until Davis doesn’t own the team anymore.
I am pretty sure everybody feels this way and it is the truth. Maybe the more times this is said Davis just might get it. However I don’t think so.

This quote came from...
a very interesting overall exchange on the raiders and Al Davis between Sapp, Collinsworth and Simms on inside the NFL I encourage you to check it out if you have the opportunity…

I love the show Inside the NFL.
I just liked it better when it was on HBO because I don’t get showtime. :(

if anyone thinks kiffin was the problem
or the many before him, then there is no hope for them. is tom cable the answer? i doubt it. will any good coach even go near this team, now? doubt it. that’s why kiffin was hired, because the rest of them wouldn’t. point is, the hc doesn’t matter much here, anyway, and coaches know it. al is the hc/gm for all intents and purposes, and that is his right as owner, i guess. the last real head coach they had was gruden, who i thought(and still do think)is an excellent coach. he had more leeway than his successors, and it worked well, didn’t it? i still can’t believe al let him go, but with al, it’s always personal. anyway, they paid enough for that decision in the sb the next season. i though kiffin had that team on the right track, but to not be able to aquire/draft what you need to have a complete, competitive team, players and coaches, then you don’t have much of a chance of success. he also wanted depth/competition at several positions, but couldn’t make the moves. i appreciated his candor regarding these situations, and thought he did the best he could with what he had to work with. they played very competitively against s.d. and buffalo the last 2 weeks. and he didn’t aquire russell, javon, leslie,… did he? so is the passing game his fault, their biggest weakness? again, the day davis retires/croaks will be the first day of the turnaround for this franchise back to respectability. until then, we can enjoy all the wins against them, the raider losses, the wtf fa signings, and the coaching carousel that doesn’t even matter. i, for one, say “long live al!”
hear me, perpetrators of bread crime, your punishment is at hand.
taste my blintzkrieg!
Sapp...
…says he tells everyone not to go near Oakland, yet he took Davis’ money for four years.

To be fair to Sapp,
he signed the contract to play before he understood just how deep the problems ran. I’ve been in contracts that have run sour before and stuck them out. It’s easier when you get paid 7 figures (or so I would imagine), but it doesn’t mean that you can’t call ’em as you see ’em.
Sapp has his faults, but at least he’s talking straight on this one.

In all fairness though...
Sapp talked a lot of junk while he was with the Raiders, so I don’t think he is lying now, but maybe he should of spoken up then, but maybe he wanted to keep his mouth shut and collect money because the reality was nobody else was going to pay him what the Raiders were paying him.
"Me fail english, that unpossible" - Ralph Wiggum
I don't argue with what Sapp said
Just wanted to point out what might be viewed as a bit of hypocrisy – him collecting his money then, and now telling people to not go there. I never liked Sapp, so couldn’t resist pointing that out. That said, I don’t think anyone needs him to tell us what a mess the Oakland Raiders are in, because of Al Davis.

HAHA
I’m glad everyone on here is having happy ol conversation about this and feeling bad for the Raiders. But allow me to post what everyone here would normally be posting if they actually havent started feeling BAD for the raiders.
HA! This is to funny, even an ex Raider all the fans love says it sucks there, Oakland does suck. Cardboard box country where fathers day is more about being confused then about being celebrated. This three ring circus cant stop we got Al, Kiffin, and Sapp in their respectable rings, soon to make room for Cable, Russel, and Hall. WOOHOO!
Heh.
I never said I didn’t want the Broncos to continue to beat them like a drum. I just want the stakes to be much higher when Oakland loses.
