MHR Fantasy football, Week 8
Through 8 weeks of the fantasy season, the official MHR Fantasy League's playoff picture is starting to take shape. The Albino Wildebeests, barring a monumental fantasy collapse, are the only lock as of now, and several teams have been very impressive the past few weeks to distance themselves from the pack. Division 1 is the only mosh pit left, with three teams log jammed at 4-4 and Guru sitting right there at 3-5.
Standings
Albino Wildebeests 76.25, Brazil Devils 57.3
Papi's Wildebeests keep on rollin' with a convincing win over the Devils. Now with bye weeks to key players such as Michael Turner, Aaron Rodgers, Roddy White and the Vikings D over, the Wildebeests can focus on winning games and staying healthy for the playoffs. The key player in this one was Roddy White, who posted 26 points for the Wildebeests and is averaging an astounding 22.75 points over the past three weeks. Optimum: Wildebeests 93.55, Devils 57.3. Coach Ratings: Papigrande 81%, lucasfrodriguez 100%
The Fighting Manginos 104.3, Sactown Beavers 72.55
Zappa's division hopes take a devastating blow in this one-sided matchup. In a controversial move to start untested Trent Edwards over veteran fantasy stud Kurt Warner, Zappa shocked fantasy pundits around the nation. The move would not pay off, as Zappa left 27.05 points on the bench with Warner, and Matt Schaub torched the Beavers' D for 26 points passing. Other notable performances came from LaDanian Tomlinson with 23 points and the Ravens' D, with 14. Optimum: Manginos 109.8, Beavers 105.35. Coach Ratings: DenverJhawk 94%, Zappa 68%
Russ' Team 89.35, TheSportsGuru's Team 72.55
In a rematch of last year's title game... exactly the same thing happened in this matchup of two teams with boring names. Russ dominated and outcoached Guru at every turn, handing the venerable mod his third straight crushing defeat. A combined 5 TD's from Peyton Manning and Steve Smith (the Carolins one) were all the offense Russ needed in this blowout. Optimum: Russ' Team 89.35, Guru's Team 86.55. Coach Ratings: Russ33 100%, Guru 83%.
Toilers of the C++ 100.4, J.F.K. Mustangs 97.65
In this week's Game of the Week, Styg and DaveCheffy went blow for blow in a high scoring affair. Drew Brees and Chad Pennington traded punches, while Frank Gore and Chris Johnson had similar huge days. Where the Mustangs' receivers faltered, their Giants' defense put up monster numbers in a 26 point showing. The Toilers, however, were not to be denied, riding a 30 point showing (!) from Santana Moss en route to a much needed, and well deserved victory. Optimum: J.F.K. Mustangs 115.05, Toilers of the C++ 112.6. Coach Ratings: Styg50 89%, DaveCheffy 84%.
Blue Collar Broncos 88.15, I CRUSH YOU! 56.05
Jezru cites that the same bugs in Fleaflicker that affected his draft plagued him again here, as he was forced into starting Greg Jennings on his bye week and Staphen Jackson, who was out with a thigh injury. Either way, it would not have mattered, as his defense was flattened beneath the onslaught of Philip Rivers and Dallas Clark, who combined for over 50 points in yet another Week 8 blowout. Optimum: Blue Collar Broncos 96.35, I CRUSH YOU! 79.35. Coach Ratings: Denver_Native 91%, Jezru 70%
Cincinnatroit Texrams 96.2, Qatar Wars: A Noob Hope 79.2
Both teams started players on their byes, so this game does not deserve a lenghthy review. The Texrams have taken 2 out of 3. Optimum: Texrams 129.3, Qatar Wars 87.75. Coach Ratings: Ejruiz 74%, JR G 90%
Weekly Awards
The Shanny Award for highest coach rating in a win: Russ33 with 100%
The Norvy for lowest coach rating: Zappa with 68%
The Rod Award for highest team score: The Fighting Manginos with 104.3
The Raider Award for lowest team score: I CRUSH YOU! with 56.05
After spending hours meditating on the Power Rankings (and doing a bunch of other stuff, like watching YouTube videos and scaring small children- it is Halloween after all) my Week 8 Power Rankings are ready for publication!
Power Rankings
1. Albino Wildebeests, Papigrande, 7-1. Unquestionably the best team in the league, the Wildebeests are dominating everyone.
2. The Fighting Manginos, DenverJhawk, 5-3. An impressive win over the Beavers vaults this team into the #2 spot in the league. They now control their own destiny for a first round bye.
3. SacTown Beavers, ZappaRulez, 5-3. The league's highest-scoring team, but just suffered a devastating blow to the Manginos. Owns the head-to-head tiebreaker over the Toilers.
4. Toilers of the C++, Styg50, 5-3. Almost the highest scoring team, is 1-2 in divisional play, which could mean disaster if they are forced into a tiebreaker.
5. Russ' Team, Russ33, 4-4. Reigning league champs looked somewhat impressive in win over Guru.
6. Blue Collar Broncos, Denver_Native, 4-4. Desroyed Jezru to get their season on track. The only team in their division to pick up a win in week 8.
7. Qatar Wars: A Noob Hope, JR G, 4-4. Own their division by virtue of a 3-0 division record, but are 1-4 in ther last 4.
8. Brazil Devils, lucasfrodriguez, 4-4. From a high to a low. They got pulverized by the Wildebeests, but are right in contention for a playoff berth.
9. TheSportsGuru's Team, Guru, 3-5. Looked less than impressive against Russ' team, continue their three game losing streak.
10. J.F.K Mustangs, DaveCheffy, 3-5. How is this team +150 in scoring and 3-5? They're the 4th highest-scoring team in the league.
11. Cincinnatroit Texrams, Ejruiz, 2-6. Don't look now, but since the name change, the Texrams have taken 2 out of 3.
12. I CRUSH YOU!, Jezru, 2-6. Massive technical problems have plagues Jezru's season.

The pic of the standings won't show up.
And I suck at making charts, so I’m not sure what to do… Can someone help me get that picture into the post?

I just copied and pasted. I was having a little breakdown there. Sorry about all the useless comments and the quintuple post.

Damn...I got the Norvy.
I am worried, Styg is on my tail for highest scoring team in the league. I gotta get my head in this! Luckily, I have an ace in the hole for the playoffs. He goes by the name, The Train!
Great job Papi

Don't get too excited
“Super-Pinky-boo-boo” won’t be riding the pine in …erm… Toilertown for the whole season. Should be coming in right when I need him most. But that is shaping up into one hell of a division.
The crazy thing about the mustangs is that not only are they the fourth highest scoring team, they are the #1 points allowed team as well. yet they are 3-5? WTF?

#1 as in they have allowed the fewest points.

By all means, use this as a week 9 fantasy open thread!
Anyone needing advice or anything about who to start in week 9 and things like that, come in here and post! Just don’t expect me to say anything. I have no fantasy experiance or wisdom, and the fact that my team is in first place is pure luck. Unless you’re playing the Beavers. If that is the case, you will find me very wise…
And, once the games have started, trash talk and stuff. Post about who’s having a big day, or who has laid an egg, or who got injured.

Except for the mid-america Bias
I think it is great reporting! Wildebeests get lucky a few times and everyone in the MSM wants to give them the crown. One word: refs!!
On a side note, I consider this week a must win. It isn’t divisional, but because m divisional record is so poor, I need to get a game ahead of Zappa, and until I have it, I won’t be able to rest…

It doesn't help me that I am going up against the scariest 3-5 team in the league! lol
