Finally, the main stream media is jumping off of the Charger bandwagon in droves as the Broncos take complete control as the Best in the AFC West. Another huge test awaits the Broncos this week as the fan hated foe, Jacksonville, comes to town looking for answers to their offensive and defensive woes. For the Broncos, it's another chance to move up in the the rankings!
Last week, the Broncos average rank was a deflated 10.8, but a hard fought defensive win did much to pull the Broncos back into the elite categories. Our average rank jumped to 7.7 thanks in large part to that strong defensive showing. Now it's time to review the rankings of MileHighReport.com.

NYJ 2-2 |
34 (42) |
Outstanding play from the bottom half of the league causes this team to slide in the rankings even though they had a bye. Favre sucks! ~Zappa
| 23. (15) |
GB 2-3 |
32 (53) |
Aaron Rodgers gave the team hope in the post-Favre era, but too many injuries are ripping the guts out of the defense. ~HT

OAK 1-3 |
25 (20) |
What's worse than having a head coach who isn't allowed to run the team? Having the offensive line coach become the head coach and not letting him run the team! Now I know why the Raiders call their home the "Black Hole". ~HT

Kudos for your objectivity
Although you might yet have the Broncos just a tad higher than what they are at present, although I expect them to climb further as they continue to gel and get their new defensive schemes down. That is, barring injuries, of course. But since the consensus around the league seems to have the Broncos in the 7 – 9 range, that is probably where they actually are.
IMHO.

I agree...I felt we got it wrong last week by ranking them below the Chargers.
The problem with us ranking Broncos is that we all have emotionally invested in the team. So every loss is going to be crushing and cause us to over react and every victory will bring elation causing us to over estimate. lol It’s a catch 22 I suppose. Overall, I think the rest of the team rankings are a fair representation. ;-)

I think the next two weeks
will tell us a lot about the Broncos… This week will be a gut-check game with some injuries to overcome on offense, and the Monday night game will tell us whether our defense (and offense) can go on the road and stand up to the best designs of a well-coached New England team that always excels at exploiting an opponent’s weaknesses.

"(Redskins) team is the most balanced team in the NFC East."
Zappa? How can the Redskins be the most balanced NFC East team when the Giants have the 1st overall offense and the 3rd overall defense…AND they’re considered a defensive team. Redskins have the 6th overall offense and 13th overall defense!
Even though Washington went to Dallas and won (and Philadelphia), my gut instict says that Dallas and Wahington should swap places. Besides that, I have no qualms…good job!
GO BRONCOS!!!

The Giants are 1-0 in the division....I am not jumping fully on that bandwagon until
they go into Dallas and Philly and leave with W’s like the Redskins have done. The Redskins only lost AT New York…the Giants have yet to face any stiff road competition within the division. The Redskins have proven they can go in the enemies back yard and dominate. That is why I call them the most balanced team in the NFC East…statistics aside. Stats don’t always tell the whole story. :-)

I still think that the Rams are so much worse than the lions. Look for the paper tiger to fold like a house of cards Sunday Night

lol, no arguement there...but that is why the Rams not playing helped them move ahead of the Lions. lmao!!

I'm kinda happy with the 7th to 9th ranking.
If Zappa would quit pushing us into the the top five (SI, ESPN, are beginning to notice that mhr is where the knowledge is) ………..if Zappa would quit putting us in the top five maybe we could still sneak up on a team or two.
I’m trying hard to get back to la-la-land—just can’t—spewed out. Hard to get back when that happens.
The best defense is a good offense!
I hope.

Seriously though...
By the NFL’s own tie break rules, we are the third best AFC team right now, and the sixth best team in the NFL. Anyone critical of MHR showing the broncos at #5 would be hard pressed to explain how we are showing any bias by being only one point off of our official ranking in the poll.

They are that bad
After all the time I spent defending the Seahawks…. Their secondary is gee willikers awful, and their front 7 didn’t make the bus to New York (although I’ll need to see them throw up all over themselves a few more times before I give up on that group). The offense looks like it’s doing what it was built to do, but it was built to let the defense win games.
Did I mention the secondary is bad? I’ve never seen a player regress so badly, Jennings makes children cry in their sleep with his play right now. And Brian Russell wasn’t supposed to be able to get worse, it’s called rock bottom for a reason.

It's okay. We all drink our local kool aid. I even picked the 49ers this past weekend....doh!
Besides, you’ve got to know things are bad when Bronco fans rank the Oakland Raiders ahead of any team. lol!!!

I think theres a difference between drinking the koolaid
and being wrong. I still see a team that should be good. And they really should be, but some bad breaks and some inexplicable regression combined with the crapshoot that is the NFL and you’re 1-3 staring down the toughest part of your schedule.
But regardless of what they should be, right now they are that bad.

I thought that on paper the Broncos were better than a 7-9 team....
sometimes the wheels just fly off and the season becomes a lost cause early on. This is clearly happening to a number of “good” teams this year. Seattle is one of them…you also got Cleveland….Indy…SD…JAX…MIN…GB….it really is a crap shoot.

I agree on not giving up on the front seven
they turn it around and everyone looks better. Seattle’s hope lie in playing their best football late, but they had better get rolling soon…
On that note I have them beating GB this week. That would certainly be a good start to something for them, if they can pull it off…
I also have oak beating NO on the road this week. I may be one of the few Broncos fans that think the raiders are better off without kiffin, despite his abilities. And I have a firm belief that Cable will do a good job of establishing the run for oakland this year. Between that and Lechler and the DBs, oakland has a shot at this game. Plus I like the raiders coming off a bye week and going against adversity ont he road…

"Plus I like the raiders"
I can’t believe I saw the word “like” and “raiders” in the same sentence written by a Bronco fan. I had to read it three times just to make sure I was seeing what I was seeing here. lol

It's always been my contention
that Kiffin was trying to get fired due to the horrible clock management at the end of the Buffalo game and at half-time of the chargers game. Take a timeout somewhere along the line and they’ve got a chance to do something rather than just take the timeouts to the locker room where they don’t do a lot of good.
I’m still not picking them against the Aints, but they may do better than in the past few weeks.

But does it bother you at all
that by sabotaging some wins to get himself fired, Kiffin was making victims out of a lot of guys who had no choice about being in oakland? None of those draft choices had realistic chances to play in a better environment, and they count on their coaches to give them the best chance to win.
There is no doubting the ineptitude of Davis, but I don’t think Kiffin exactly outshines the guy or anything…

I'm not sticking up for the guy
but it seems that after the BS he went through during the off-season (not being able to fire Ryan, getting Walker and Hall even though he told Davis he didn’t want/need them and probably figuring out that he was on a short leash) he didn’t make much of an effort to win.
I think at that point, it was all about saving his own butt and getting out as soon as possible (probably stupidly thinking that he would get his $3.5M to boot) and trying to get another head coaching job somewhere else.
Granted, I have nothing to back this up with, but it just seemed like he wasn’t going all out to win the games like he should have.

Kiffin went far to ensure he won't be offered another Head Coaching job in the NFL
for at least a decade…maybe forever….
