Veterans Day
On November 11 is Veterans day. It signifies the end of WW1. Around the world and until 1953 in America its known as Armistice day. In 1953 Al King of Emporia, KS chose to expand it honor all Veterans. In 1954 President Dwight Eisenhower signed a bill to change the day to Veterans Day. Its a day to say thank you to all who have served this county. To me it is a very special day. But usually a home team will honor the Veterans on a home game closest to this day. Sometimes the game falls on Veterans day its self.On of the most recognized NFL players to play in the NFL is Pat Tilman. There was also Rocky Bleier who was injured in Vietnam and came back to get 4 rings with the Steelers and a Purple Heart recipient. The only NFL(AFL) player who was killed in Vietnam was 1LT Bob Kalsu. Kalsu was a starting guard in 1968. He played the entire season and was the Bills' team rookie-of-the-year. Following the 1968 season, to satisfy his Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) obligation, he entered the Army as a Second Lieutenant and arrived in Vietnam in November 1969. He was killed in action on July 21, 1970 at FSB Ripcord near the A Shau Valley. FOB Kalsu in Iraq is named in his honor. Today I thought we could remember some of our Veterans. This is my way off honoring those who came before and served our country and were professional football players

Thank you BFSISD
for your service to our country and for reminding us all that without the sacrifice of our veterans we wouldn’t be in the position we are today debating the finer points of a game that in the end doesn’t really matter.
Also, thank you to all the other veterans in the MHR family. I truly respect each and every one of you.

That’s ok with me. We’re playing for wins, not media publicity....HT 9/11/08

Wars had an interesting influence on my father's football career
My Dad grew up in the mountians of New Mexico and played high school football at Alamagordo. After WWII, veterans who had not finished high school were allowed to retain their eligibilty, so my Dad played ball against some very experienced men. He went to Western New Mexico University on a football scholarship, but had to cut his career short for the Korean War. After the war he had the GI Bill, so he was still able to make it through college. He said that if it wasn’t for football he probably wouldn’t have even made it through high school.
The strange thing about Veteran’s Day is that he always had jobs that did not give him a day off. It is strange that he had to work on a day that was set up to honor his sacrifices.

It is odd, isn't it?
I think a copy of one’s DD-214 should act as a day off card for Veteran’s Day.
Maybe immediate family of killed, captured, or missing service members should get Memorial Day off.

Nice post BFSISD!
I want to take this time and salute all those who served for our country. Also to both my grandfathers who were both in the military.

I saw so many come back from the 'Viet' waiste--something that 'those that are the real powers' made us lose
I saw the damage, lived the damage, and love all VETS who fight to keep this nation free. We are a republic—vets fought to keep it—still fight to keep it.
Let’s not let socialism take over this nation—it will not work—and we will no longer be free.
Bring back the Bible and we can still save this nation—without it our Vets die in vain—and our nation is lost.

I love all that stand up and defend this country--I love all you guys, you VETS, that have given so much, so that we can be free!

Two years ago yesterday
I took part in a ceremony dedicating a World War II memorial to all the men from my college who served and died in that war. You can read about it in this New York Times article. There are quite a few inaccuracies in that piece (to say I’m an expert on the subject the article claims I am is a gross exaggeration), but it tells you what you need to know.
By the end of the month we should have a website up and running for the memorial, which expands greatly the scope of the project. If anyone’s interested I’ll provide the URL once it goes active.

to all in Colorado
Pls if you can visit the Danny Dietz memorial. As (maybe you guys and beautiful women of MHR are probably tiring of hearing) you know I am a Vet and am loyal to all of us, and pls give a simple prayer to him and his family. I love all my Colorado vets and all American vets.
I thank you my friends of MHR for letting me tribute my fellow vets. I feel all of you on MHR are part of my Bronco and American family. I would willing give my life for any and all of you. Regardless of political affiliation or such. If I could go to Iraq, Afghanistan or wherever I am needed I would do it right now. Again thank you Guru and the coaching staff for allowing me to do this.
