Jason Elam and the Denver Broncos
I've been thinking about Jason Elam this week and I was wondering about a few things. Kicker's obviously do not get into the hall of fame and I wouldn't consider very many, if any, past kickers to be worthy of such an "honor". However, when I look at Jason Elam, I can't think of any Bronco kicker in the past that is as deserving to be honored by the Bronco organization. Certainly, such an honor wouldn't come for many years, but a decade from now I wonder if fans would be ready to put Jason Elam up on the Ring of Fame.
He was the most prolific kicker in Bronco history and holds many of the team records. He even trained his replacement so the Broncos wouldn't miss a beat once he left for free agency. Jason Elam has been nothing but a class act and a superior kicker in the NFL and I feel he deserves to be honored one day by the Denver Broncos. There, I've said my piece. Feel free to vote in the poll!

No doubt about it!
He has meant so much to this organization and is such a classy guy that I don’t see how he doesn’t get into the Ring of Fame. I don’t have the numbers, but how many game winning/tying games did he have for us. He is the best clutch kicker that we’ve ever had (witness the various slams to Karlis and Treadwell on this site).
The only other kicker that may deserve the honor would be Jim Turner.

For some reason I thought Turner was already a Ring of Famer...

Maybe I am just too jaded
but right now all I care about Elam is that he is kicking off for Atlanta. I think we can expect to see Royal catching the ball somewhere between the 15 and 20 yard lines. If Royal can get 15 yards on each return we will be starting at the 30 to 35 yard line. Even if we go three and out and gain nothing, with Kern’s 39.5 net average punt they will start on their 25. We can win the war of field position due to Special Team performance.
As to ROF, I am with DeserBroncofan. The only name that comes to mind is Jim Turner.

Unfortunately
Atlanta’s punter is handling kickoff duties. I doubt that he will be hitting as far as Prater, but obviously longer than Jason.

On the MHR last night
Dave the Falconer said Elam was kicking off. What I do know is that as of yesterday nfl.com listed 31 kickoff men and from Atlanta made the list!

I have no desire to see Elam succeed in Atlanta. Don't get me wrong...I hope he sucks bad.

I agree
But when Dan Reeves and JIm Turner gets in, then Elam can IMO
somethings wrong, Trying to conquer these fears i thought were gone. And it's been so long, I'm dying to live in a world i don't belong

I don't know how Jim Turner measures up to Jason Elam, but I will take a gander and say that Elam has
the NFL record for longest FG and also ranks in the top echelon of points scored. What exactly did Jim Turner do?

Turner
For one thing, he caught a touchdown pass on a fake field goal (against the Raiders?). Elam never did that.
He had read the inscription on the gates of Busyrane–‘Be bold’; and on the second gate–‘Be bold, be bold, and evermore be bold’; and then again had paused well at the third gate–‘but not too bold.’" RW Emerson

Elam gained two yards on a fake field goal. :)
And pulled a hammy doing it. I bet Turner never did that. :P lmao

Isn't there a waiting period anyway?
I don’t know how long it is, but I think there’s a waiting period. I know I remember hearing that Elway’s ROF induction waiting period was waived…
Elam? Yes. ROF. Great Bronco for a long long time.

Yea, I believe the waiting period is 5 years after retirement....it was only reduced for John Elway.

I agree he should be in the Ring of Fame
He has been clutch, a pro, and a respected leader, so not too many of those out there that are kickers. I would of liked to see him end his career in Denver, but I am fine with him kicking in Atlanta for a few more years. I think that move worked out well for both teams.

He's still good to go...
Atwater ended his career (one day contract signing aside) with the Jets. Favre is still a Packer. Elam is still a Bronco.

Only if he misses all his FGs this Sunday
Seriously, it’s the least he can do for us. Show us some love, Jason, and do the right thing. Wide right or left will suffice.
I wish Woody Paige was our coach!

I can't think of a game when he let us down on a last minute kick--and many times he made things we doubted.
put him in the ring.
