Maturity To a True MVP
We all know the story of Jay Cutler. A strong armed Quarterback from a not so big time College in Vandy. Someone we had no idea Mike Shanahan would trade up to take. After just being 13-3 and in the AFC Championship game and Jake Plummer playing Okay but not great, None of us Denver fans would have suspected us to take Jay Cutler with the 11th pick in the 2006 NFL Draft, but we did. And I like many I am glad we did.

It's very rare to find a true franchise Quarterback, Many have failed, little have succeeded. The list of Hall of Fame Franchise QBs is thin but also great. Our very own John Elway, Troy Aikman, Joe Montana, Steve Young, Dan Marino, Terry Bradshaw, and future Hall of Famers Peyton Manning, Brett Favre, and Tom Brady. Its not very often you find a guy who can put the whole team on his back and lead them to victory on the road in the 4th quarter with ease. That was something John was able to do many of times. It is now something Jay has been able to do 6 times and counting in just his second season as a starter in the NFL.
After a rough first season campaign as an NFL starter Jay was beaten, battered and abused and had something very seriously wrong with him. We all know the story. And were probably all tired of hearing about it but it is remarkable. Type 1 Diabetes was what was wrong with him. And being able to cure it has made him a stronger person on and off the field. A true leader.
These last two games I have watched as if I wasn't convinced already, I have witnessed just like you an MVP QB taking his team on his back in hostile territory to victory. Jay Cutler is Maturing into the mold of an MVP. It Started in Cleveland at half time. When this team rallied around Jays 447 yards and 3 Touch downs to a come from behind 4th quarter win. Than again in Atlanta down by 3 with 5 minutes to play Jay scrambled to his right and threw a bullet to the ground to a diving Daniel Graham for a go ahead game winning touchdown. The Maturity continues.
Although Jay did not throw MVP numbers in Atlanta he did something which showed great Maturity. He took his check downs and took what the D gave him, which led to the awesome jay. 3rd and 7 47 yard bomb to Marshall on the teams final scoring drive. That game showed Maturity and the MVP status of Jay.
Many people will say Kurt Warner is the MVP of this league and its hard to argue against that. The guy has been awesome. He has taken the Cardinals from the bottom to the top. The suppose to be starter Matt Lienart probably won't see the field for two more years thanks to Warners stellar play. Oh and Leinart was taken ahead of Cutler in the 2006 draft for you information. Also people will say Kerry Collins should be the league MVP with his non mistake great play on the leagues only undefeated team. Oh and the suppose to be starter for the Titans vince Young was also taken above JC in the 2006 NFL draft but you already know that. I'm not even going to mention Drew Brees or Phillip Rivers because their teams are not in the leaders of their division at the moment.
But when push comes to shove Jay Cutler is the True MVP here. Let me explain. Kurt Warner has a slightly above average defense the best reciever tandom in the league, and a great rushing attack. Kerry Collins has the best one two punch running back tandem in the league and probably the leagues best if not top 3 defense in the league. Although lately he has been doing awesome which is good to see. None of them have the issues JC has.
For Cutler he has one of the worst defenses in the league with 5 starters out. He has a average running game which is getting to be awesome thanks to PHillis, Pope, and Bell. But lets see, Cutler basically has been taking this team on his back since opening night in Oakland. He is being asked by Shanny and Co to lead this team back to the playoffs. Throwing the ball 40 times is a bad thing many will say, but not with Jay. He is a playmaker who wants the ball in his hands with the game on the line. He thrives on throwing the ball 30+ times a game. He has arecieving core in which he trusts. Any throw he makes you just know its going to be magic. You will get the mistake but i would much rather take chances than not knowing you never tried. And with Jay thats what you get.
People will compare him to John and Brett but hey thats what the media does they compare. But I think JC is in his own league. He is a different breed of talent. and he is maturing into the level i knew he would become. A True MVP.
If you can't see it than i don't know which game you are watching, but this kid Saves just like the TShirt on tweedlet.com JC Saves. and that is why he is becoming a True MVP.

Nice post indeed
I have to say, I am not worried about the MVP accolades, those will come if he not only wins in the regular season, but what he does in the playoffs. The main thing I like is that he has listened to Shanahan, and that was something I questioned if he was mature enough or willing to do, I have been proven wrong. I hope that he continues in his consistency and using everyone on the field, that is the mark of a true great QB. When you understand where your greatest mismatches are and exploiting them, learning from the mistakes, and having a short memory as far as not celebrating too much or getting down too much, those are things great QBs all have.

TommyT....good stuff man.
I think it will come down to Kurt Warner and Jay Cutler for MVP…the sad thing is, the media will give Kurt the nod because he brought the Cardinals out of the dark…at “37 years young!”. I can hear it all now…my pessimistic side of me says. That will only change if Cutler wins out…..12-4 baby!

Great job, Tommy. Great pics, too.
Of the heros of the last game, let’s not forget the O line. They are learning to run-block in as big a way as they have been pass blocking. I love Hillis’ passion and Pope’s speed, but two weeks ago the holes just weren’t there like they were yesterday.
Just watched the game for the third time. Big ol’ holes….Does Hillis ever go down on the first defender’s tackle? Haven’t seen a Bronco run over people like that much for quite a while. Wow.

That’s a great point that two of the leading contenders for MVP started the season as backups for QBs drafted before Cutler. Bwaaahahaha. Suckers!.

Inspired Tommy T....
he has proven that a relative rookie can be a leader.
This is rubbing off on BM, Eddie, Hillis, WW and the Stormin’ Mormon.
They are maturing before our eyes….and we still have the steadying, actions spek louder than words in Champ and DJ.
TOTALLY RECOMMENDED my friend.
Did you hear the comments BM said about Larsen…pretty great statements.

Nice job
But I still think Jay is still in the “shows flashes of great ability” stage, more than a great QB just yet. He’s only in his 3rd year, and as everyone knows, quarterbacks develop at their own speed. He has shown the ability to move on from questionable decisions, but he still has trouble protecting the ball and looking off Marshall (although to his credit, he has done that much less recently). He has a great game and then he can go out and look completely boneheaded. I still have doubts about his in-game management and sometimes his mouth writes checks that his ass can’t cash, pardon my French. Hopefully he will soon discover that it’s better to show how he’s got a stronger arm than Elway, etc, then talking about it and then proceeding to look foolish.
It’s funny, the prevailing wisdom around here at MHR after a win is usually to praise Jay to high heaven, and after a loss, all start questioning if he’s “arrived” yet (which goes to show you how he’s basically the entire team right now). It’s growing pains. I personally think Jay will be consistently good, likely even great, but I disagree that he’s already there. And setbacks will be part of the journey. We just have to trust that his natural skill and affinity for football will shine through, or he’ll eventually hit a wall, and leave us all looking for Teh Answer again (although if anyone has that now for a) a defense and b) a tailback, please share).

It pains me to say that I don't disagree.
I would have rather had it come as a “cool dose of reality” instead of a “cold dose of reality”. However, it will come. I think he is very good, but has not reached great yet. Great in embryo.

You said it
Until he puts together a full year of greatness (which I believe will come sooner rather than later) he is not MVP material (though great fun to watch). Boneheaded plays will always be there (Lord know Elway made enough of them) but keeping them to a minimum will be the mark of a great QB and possible MVP.

What do you think it will take for Jay to win the award?
I think it’s honestly based on what person/player helps his team collect wins, so if Denver gets to 11-12 wins, then he has to be in serious consideration for MVP!

Great post Tommy and rec'd
On MHR Radio, I remember hearing Guru say that he thinks that Jay will be a good QB on the road considering what he dealt with at Vanderbilt. I see what he is saying and the last two weeks were testiments to that.
It is so much fun watching Cutler go to work. I can’t say this enough, I am so stoked Shanny traded up to draft him.

Very entertaining and well done. We have something special there, Tommy.
I’ll have to admit you confused me with “PHillis.” That is so close to “Phyllis” that it stopped me for a moment. (heehee)

The Pro Bowl this year for JC,
but not yet the MVP. But he will be MVP if not next year, very soon, and multiple times. He will have a couple of seasons in his career where he has historic numbers – 40-50 TDs and close to 5,000 yards. He will also win a SB MVP. It will all come.

Love the pics TTS. It sure adds some pazzaz to a good read!
Now for the bone heads on ESPN today. They were interviewing the Vandy head coach today, and in the interview mentioned the fact that Vandy is going to a bowl game this year, the first one since 1986. Then they mentioned two players from vandy that went to the NFL and asked him if the fact that the NFL are picking some players from Vandy, if it helps his recruiting any! DUUUUGH? Dumb question to start with, but even dumber when Jay Cutler was not even one of the two players mentioned.
If its the sports casters who vote then JC will never get one. I hope that it is the players who do the voting, but I really don’t know how they come up with that decision.

Loved the pic of Hillis blocking Brookings
A large part of any young QB’s development is based on getting complementary players that accentuate his strengths. The Broncos have been doing a good job of this since JC was drafted.
The future looks so bright that we're going to need blue and orange sunglasses!
