What do we do now? What does the future hold?
While am visiting the in-laws this week in Washington State, I learned that the Broncos/conquered fader nation game would not been seen on local TV, I decided to take a drive to a local sports bar that had NFL Sunday Ticket. I got dressed in my John Elway throwback jersey with the 75th anniversary patch and went over there with my father-in-law planning on a great game and some good chicken wings.
As we came into the bar, we saw several TV's with all the games. Soon we were settled into a booth with the game coming on. For the first part of the game, the defense forced the conquered fader nation into a 3 and out. Denver got the ball back and drove the ball down the field with relative ease. Something changed on that drive when Peyton Hillis and Cutler couldn't handle the ball on the fader 5 yard line, resulting in giving the ball to Al's pals. Instead of overcoming the turnover, the game turned worse. You all know the rest of the story and I left after Cutler threw an interception in the 4th quarter. Having to listen to some poser fader fans and their spawn cheering at the bar was bad enough with Denver beating themselves at every turn.
I have come to some conclusions for this team:
- This team is too immature on both sides of the ball. They don't take thier opponet seriously enough at times. Stop posing after making a play and win the game.
- We have some promising talent coming up, but it could take a few more years.
- Good teams don't turn the ball over, great teams overcome turnovers when that rare occasion arises.
- Being outcoached by Rex Ryan and Tom Cable is unacceptable in all instances.
- This team does not deserve to win the AFC West. If they do, it will be one and done.
- Don't ever pity the fader nation after this day. Denver needs to keep the "conquered" in the fader nation name.
As I came to these conclusions (as most of the rest of you did), I started to think of the people we would play on our schedule next season. After today's game you have to be hopeful for something.
Here's what our schedule will entail for next season:
Home:
- Missouri Indians
- conquered fader nation
- Phyllis and his merry men
- Cleveland Browns
- Pittsburgh Steelers
- Dallas Cowboys
- New York Giants
- AFC East opponet (depending on final standings could be New England, New York Jets, Miami Dolphins or Buffalo Bills)
Away:
- Missouri Indians
- conquered fader nation
- Phyllis and his merry men
- Baltimore Ravens
- Cincinnati Bengals
- Philadelphia Eagles
- Washington Redskins
- AFC South opponet (Indianapolis Colts, Tennesee Titans, Jacksonville Jaguars or Houston Texans)
We have quite a schedule coming up next season. This team will be better next season. Another good draft and some wise free agent acquisitions (as well as better health) will take this group to a new level.

What do we do now?
We win the AFC West. I don’t care about tiebreakers and first round byes. We’re not going to win the Super Bowl anyway, we never were, so wee can stop fooling around with that nonsense. The Indianapolis Colts just gift-wrapped us the AFC West. We will get in barring a monumental collapse, most likely as the fourth seed.
We have a tough schedule coming up with the NYJ’s, KC, BUF, CAR, and SD. We have to buckle down and claim this division. Get into the playoffs and get some experiance. That is of the utmost importance. Get there, see how we respond, and prep ourselves for a future deep run. Maybe next year, maybe the year after. That’s all this yearis, is a stepping block to greater things. We must learn from what happens this year, starting with this game. We should be pissed off and come into New York with a chip on our shoulder. This isn’t a must-win game (the KC game, however, is) but a test of constitution. Will we be too discouraged and make mistakes? Or will we play no-nonsense Denver Bronco football? That’s what I’m looking for.
If Mike Shanahan were a hotdog, would you eat him? I know I would. Hell, I'd eat him twice.

Getting some playoff experience for our young team
is exactly what I am thinking about as well. I want our guys to get a taste of it which will hopefully drive them to get back there.
I mean we finally get some momentum with those road wins, however they don’t mean much if we come to our house and lay an egg like we did regardless of who we are playing. I hear you papi, we need to play pissed the rest of the season.

Maturity
I think the maturity issue is pretty big. It feels like if the Broncos have a couple of good games they start to think they are pretty good and should just automatically beat an inferior opponent. When they figure out that they need to prepare for the worst teams the same way they prepare for the better teams they’ll be pretty good.
BTW, as much as I like Brandon Marshall, I’m starting to notice some holes in his game. He does not have good hands leading to too many drops. Also, he doesn’t seem to have the mental part down. The first one we’re just gonna have to deal with (the same way Dallas has to deal with T.O.’s drops). The second should be fixable if commits himself, that is, if he matures.
Anyway, I like the potential of this team and I think we are talented enough on offense to give anyone a game if we play well. Hopefully we get up for the Jets and get us a win next week.
And thank you Indy who just beat Phyllis and company.

Jets
If we beat the Jets, I give up. That would be the ultimate in absurdity. This team doesn’t make sense. We are still in the frustrating stage, like around 93-95 when we couldn’t get a consistent game going. We would look good one week, and then blow one at home the next against some team like Tampa Bay. That is where this team is at. 1996 should be next year, however. I think the inconsistency should end with a better defense.

Future ?
How do you respond to the NY Jets commit to stopping the run ? the jets pounded the
ball through the middle of the Titans D. Or worry about brett farve beating you through
the air ? the jets play action was killing the titans also .
So be carefull when you pick your Posion because they both kill .

There is absoluetly NOTHING positive to take from this weekend.....
Even the Colts win over the Chargers does nothing to help the problem. It just gives this team another chance to screw up with out consequences.
Anyone notice that Cutler spoke about his arm strength vs Elway again and they sucked.
KEEP YOUR FRICKIN MOUTH SHUT JAY!!!!! YOU PLAYED WORSE THAN JAY CUTLER EVER PLAYED FOR US!!!!!
I am not even angry, just REALLY disappointed in the level of professionalism shwn all across the board by this team.
IF YOU CANT GET UP FOR A GAME AGAINST THE RAIDERS, AT HOME, TO SET UP A MEETING FOR A 2 SEED IN THE NEXT WEEK THAN YOU DONT DESERVE TO BE IN THE PLAY OFFS.
I am sick of hearing about immaturity….Green Bay, as I have pointed out before, were a younger team last year, who got to the NFC play off.
This loss can be shared equally by everyone, but damn, I really wonder about our coaching staff again and there ability to get our team ready.

I have to agree with you on some points
I was really disappointed in Jay act, I really don’t need him smacking around the kicker, go smack around Marshall or Scheffler, and quit whining when you get beat. I mean we got some gift calls from the refs as far as roughing the passer, some were good, others were very questionable, don’t whine about a PI call when you are throwing into double and triple coverage and down by 21.
I have questioned the coaching staff in the past and I still do, but I really have to say, Mike didn’t throw the ball or run it, or play D-line, so I can’t fault them too much, when the players don’t execute, that is on them, as they always say, potential and ability will get you fired in a hurry.

A bunch of good points here.
To summarize:
*We’re young and immature, which results in the confounding inconsistency.
*We’re a year or two away from being serious contenders.
*Our Division is terrible and we will likely win it.
What does all this mean? First, we have a great shot at knocking off the Jets this week. Second, the home playoff game will be extremely valuable experiance for our young team. We’ll most likely be one and done, but so be it. The more meaningful games played the better. Nothing like a playoff game or two to pay some serious rebuild dividends.

Gosh, I feel like I am the only one who ever buzz's anything up anymore. lol
Good stuff mdierk. I agree on all points. I found it ironic that the team that helped us this week(Colts) will likely be the team that destroys us in the Wild Card game if we win the AFC West. sigh. I’ve said it a dozen times this year…we will only go as far as Cutler takes us. If he doesn’t score 30 points a game for us, we won’t win.
Our D played valiantly, but it can only hold the line for so long….
