I would like your thoughts
Going into this season I really felt that the Broncos were on the right track. We saw the departure of some highly compensated veterans who were simply not earning their paychecks. We saw the addition of younger, faster, men with fewer character issues who actually acted like they wanted to play. I was a 10-6 guy. I wanted to see four qualities in the Denver Broncos:
- Hard-nosed players. I wanted to see guys who were not afraid to hit somebody or tackle. They weren’t afraid of being hit or being tackled.
- Team-First players. I was, and remain, sick and tired of the “look at me” mentality displayed by some players. I wanted to see men who put the team goals above their own statistics.
- Character. I wanted to see men you were proud to say were Denver Broncos. We should never even begin to discuss multiple kids from multiple women in multiple states or wife-beaters.
- Players who never quit. I wanted to see men who gave 100% on every play no mater if we were 40 points ahead or 40 points behind.
Unfortunately, (or fortunately, depending upon your point of view) I had to miss the raider game. I hate to loose games and I particularly hate to loose to the raiders, but I will at least be able to chalk it up to experience and growth if we met the objectives above. I would like to hear what you guys have to say.
Then we can put this POS game behind us and focus on the Jets.

The four qualities are spot on for me
That is exactly what I want my favorite team to be. Walk softly but carry a big stick. Good post firstfan.

Winborn and Woodyard have shown they can hit.
I don’t understand this worry…all this team seems to be team first.
All this teams character is what we were happy about!
We quit last game—blame that on coaching.
we are young and need a little luck—the injuries ended that—we need passion.
The best defense is a good defense!
And last week's young players. Yes!

Have you noticed how well our defense plays in the 1st quarter?
I remember hearing a stat about how good our defense is in the 1st quarter , but then goes to hell the rest of the game. We do have extremely fast and athletic linebackers, but they are smaller and tire out quicker (or just plain get injured). And I wouldn’t call our DL the largest group either.
I have seen this as an overall trend all year. (I think that stat was going into the Miami game, no TD’s allowed in 1st qtr of any game). I do like all of our current starting LB’s though. All solid players.

Hey firstfan....
Plenty of passion from a young defense wj=hich turned to frustration with the continued pathetic play of the O thur the whole game.
Our O had as much life as a common house brick, and showed no fight or passion. This O line is wasted on this team with performances like this out of O.
I have to ask: Why no SHeffler in the game plan? Why no adjustments in the game plan? Why did we desert the run when Hillis is averaging over 4.5 a run?
I think our probelm like Mike Clark alluded to is coaching. This team is let down on a constant basis by coaching on both sides of the ball, and Shanny does not have the cojones to make changes NOW.
Lets hope for a better effort against the Jets……but i a SUPER frustrated that we are still letting the Chargers hang in there when the division title should have been put away weeks ago.

Right track is right.
I definitely see better character and team-first attitudes on this team. Especially with the rookies. I see a potential problem though. Most of these rookies are 4th-7th round picks. While they are nice players and all, there is a reason nobody picked them until the 4th to 7th rounds. You can’t get a draft steal with EVERY player picked. I just hope Shanny and Co. continue to build mostly through the draft and less through free agency. It is so obvious that is the best way to go.
A little optimism to go with a little pessimism.

I missed the game as well (thankfully)
and my DVR died last week (after the Atlanta game) so I didn’t even get to see the sped up version of it (before I deleted it) and unfortunately, I’ll be missing this week’s game as well (the new DVR won’t show up until next week)!
I had the exact same feeling going into this year as you did firstfan. I thought 10-6 was a reasonable goal with us being 2nd in the division and an outside chance of the playoffs (assumed the chargers wouldn’t be as bad as they’ve turned out) and was glad to see the shedding of the me-first players, though there still are a couple of linebackers (Winborn and Webster) that still feel the need to celebrate for doing their jobs.
I still think we need to work on the hard-nosed players that aren’t afraid of hitting or getting hit (though we’ve found a couple of gems in this rookie class in Hillis, Larsen, Woodyard, etc.) and players that will play all-out whether up by 40 or down by 40 (they give up too easily after a mistake and let it affect the rest of the game).

A knock just came on my door
and my new DVR was waiting for me!
So, I will get to see the sped up version of the Jets game when I get home on Sunday night (before I have a chance to get on here on Monday morning and find out what happened)!
