firstfan's Game Balls
#1 Game Ball goes to the Holy Trinity of Wiegmann, Kuper and Hamilton for neutralizing the best nose tackle in the NFL. Kris Jenkins is a monster and at 6'4" and 349 lbs he can control nealy every offensive line. Not today. Our trio not only opened the holes for Hillis to rush for 129 yds. but also kept the #6 jersey clean.
#2 Game ball goes to Hillis. One play comes to mind. Hillis took a handoff and broke through the line. He was on his way for a nice gain and only # 23 Abram Elam was in front of him. He could have put on some fancy juke and gained a couple of yards but instead he wrapped up the ball, put his head down and headed right at Elam. He ran over Elam and gained an additional six. That, my friends, is Bronco football and earns firstfan's gameball #2.
#3 Game ball goes to Linebackers Woodyard and Larsen. These guys stopped the run and covered the pass. They played with the passion we have grown to expect of the Denver Broncos.
This was a great team win and I salute every man with a horse on his helmet!

I would give one to Kern
That play in the third quarter saved the game, he punted well in horrible conditions, punters don’t get much love, but he did an outstanding job today.

I agree also.
There were many honorable mentions. The rotaion at DT and DE did a fantastic job as well. D-Rob played well. Of course Cutler, Royal, and all three TE’s were instrumental Yes, I include Mustard!) It was a total team effort. I am reall starting to like this team.

firstfan should get a token
game ball too. It’s quite clear to me that the Denver coaching staff looked over his “In the Trenches” post and set their game plan around that. How else could we have run the ball so effectively against the #3 run defense? We could really use more of his insight down the home stretch!

Good Job firstfan!
All your selections showed that good, old-fashioned, hard-nosed Bronco football we first fell in love with. Here’s to the good old days and the good new days to come.

You’re scoring on every post, like Cutler has been. Thanks for the excellent analysis

Hillis...
You neglected to mention that hillis took a shot to the pills before the end of the game. In consideration of his “sacrifice” I’d like to quote the immortal words of Dan Akroyd at the end of TOMMY BOY…
“Send over a bottle of bubbly with a bucket of ice and a card. Have it say, "[Good Work], get drunk on me. Use the bucket to ice down your marbles…”

firstfan--I love your love of the trenches
Someone over at the Jets SB site said Casey was thrown around like a rag doll most of the game—did you see that?

That's funny
It sure didn’t show in Jenkin’s stat line….

He was thrown around a lot
but he was totally effective at keeping Jenkins out of our backfield and away from our ball carriers! I believe we used more conventional mano y mano blocking than usual as opposed to our zone blocking. This allowed double teams from the guards and that is why I included Kuper and Hamilton. I reference the play in the second quarter where Jenkins got so frustrated with Kuper he tore his helmet off. Kuper just grinned!

Mike
Getting thrown around really isn’t a bad thing. No, really. If you are getting thrown around, it means you are engaging the NT or DT which is keeping him from getting tackles and sacks. I’d rather see my defensive linemen getting penetration than throwing around OLmen. You can "dominate" the guy in front of you, and not accomplish your goals.
Wiegmann was getting tossed, but he was keeping Jenkins engaged. It was solid work.

How about Wesely Woodyard
on that reverse fumble, he could have just tagged that guy down instead he jumped on him causing a TD

Exactly! That is another "Bronco Football" play.

I think I would have stretched
the game ball all across the O-line. Those two tackles, Clady and Harris, are stone walls. The Jets are a good pass-rushing team, and I don’t believe Jay even had a hurry, did he?

I don't know if you heard the KOA broadcast of the oakland game
but Doc and Logan were being pretty funny talking about stretching the ball out when measuring for a long first down. Even when we were about four yards away froma first, Logan would be saying “four yards, about the length of a football away” (cue doc giggling like a little girl) “a reeeeallly long football…” (at this point Doc burst out laughing)… They were pretty much doing it all game long.
Sorry, your post just reminded me of that…

I like the job those guys do over at KOA.
I end up listening to a lot of games on the radio because, sadly, Ms. T-Jack often plans my weekends without regard to the Broncos schedule.

Honerable mention to Josh Bell.
I just think he deserves a mention because he made several plays on the ball especially on 4th down at the end of the game to prevent the Jets from getting a late score.
