Blue Collar Back

Considering our current half-back situation I wonder if Mike Anderson needs a job. Mike is not the fastest, nor the best, but he is a blue-collar runner that knows nothing but 'one-cut-downhill'. We could use that right now.

Funny, before pre-season games I thought we were thoroughly covered at running back--funny how things can change.

Does anyone know if Mike Anderson is available?

Also, I would like to thank Cutler for stepping up and pulling an "Elway" on Cleveland last night.

There are a whole bunch of clips on there!

He looks pretty impressive in his highlight clips.

Which Bell...

I might take Mike Bell back but a big NO to Tatum!

by boydy2669 on Nov 7, 2008 7:27 AM MST reply actions   0 recs

He looks good

But also looks very small. From the perspective of only these highlights, he dances too much.

I really think Hillis has the speed and the running style that would suit Denver’s needs. He may not be a long term answer, but I think he can be productive enough to finish the season. Granted, he has to stay healthy.

Top ten draft pick bound!

by 53guys on Nov 7, 2008 8:17 AM MST up reply actions   0 recs

he's available because he's a completely unproven back...

without great speed, a history of off field problems…not everyone can be the next Terrell Davis.

In all seriousness you never know about guys they could just need the opportunity but if you read his profile he sounds like he was a little better than average in College and his negatives are pretty big negatives for a running back…“Not an elusive runner who creates yardage. Does not show the playing speed to turn the corner.” Also keep in mind you’re watching a highlight video, I rather take Hillis in a one back spread system any day myself.

Boyd...................

I think I stated in a previous post that I liked Boyd in college, I think he will be a good addition, I just hope the offield problems are done. I was so disappointed in the Torain injury, he looked as good as advertised last night. He was running tough and picking up critical yards on first and second down but it seems he can’t avoid the injury bug. Hope this doesn’t become a regular thing for him but it seems to have been with him all the way through college. I’m not too sure Selvin hasn’t seen his last days as a Bronco with his inability to stay healthy either. I say give Hillis a shot at RB, he really came through last night.

The player who thinks he can and the player who knows he can are two different players, which one are you???

by Broncofan on Nov 7, 2008 10:29 AM MST reply actions   0 recs

if inability to stay healthy is the signal of your last days as a Bronco...

we might see an entirely new 53 man roster next year minus a few…

My point...........

was that this is two years of Selvin being hampered by nagging injuries that he has a hard time getting back from. Even with light work, he can’t stay healthy. I’m all for giving a guy a couple years but no more than that. He has shown a propensity for injury. Thats all I’m saying. I’d just like to see us get some durable backs. Torain looks like the real deal but he will be useless if he can’t stay on the field. As much as I like Selvin and Torain, we need them healthy or we need to get others in here, Torain gets another year as far as I’m concerned but he’s gotta stay healthy when he gets back.

The player who thinks he can and the player who knows he can are two different players, which one are you???

I know what you are saying

but that hit Torain took last night was pretty nasty. Watching it live you could tell his body was getting twisted in all sorts of directions while he was in the pile.

by MattR on Nov 7, 2008 1:20 PM MST up reply actions   0 recs

Regarding Torain

Up until last night I had forgotten what it looked like to see a RB in an orange & blue uniform hit the hole hard, fast, and with conviction. Last night it seemed as though Cutler would take the snap, take a few steps back, stick the ball out and all of a sudden this blurs flies by. The next thing you can distinguish is Jay Cutler’s empty hand and Torain being tackled 4-8 yards passed the line of scrimmage. In fact, I think most of Torain’s tackles came from guys who just happened to be in his way because they had not taken their first step after the snap!

Obviously I am being dramatic but seriously, wow, that guy hits the hole like a bolt of lightning.
2009 – The Torain train comes back to Denver… Until then, give Hillis the ball and bring up P.J. Pope and this Boyd guy and lets throw our 40 – 60 passes a game.

I think Boyd is the best option too

Has he had any issues since his 2005 suspension?

NFL.com’s draft profile of him used Olandis Gary as a point of comparison, which would be more than satisfactory at this point in time. I would also guess that Boyd is pretty good in pass protection since he came from a Steve Spurrier team (which is also why his rushing yards are not through the roof). I know that he is supposed to be a good receiver out of the backfield.

Is there any chance for Torain to come back this year?

Mike Shanahan said it doesn’t look good, but he’s not a doctor. Is there any chance that it’s not an ACL injury, just a sprain, and Torain will be 100% and ready to go next week against Buffalo?

He looked awesome last night. He hit the hole harder than anyone I’ve seen in orange and blue since Mike Anderson and Clinton Portis. He looked as good as advertised against a very good Browns D-line. I’m still going to hold out hope that he can come back this year.

13-3 next year! Baby!

It doesn't sound good.
This time, rookie running back Ryan Torain has been lost with what is thought to be a torn anterior cruciate ligament. Torain will undergo more testing this weekend but the prognosis is not good.

I’ll wait until all the testing is complete until I accept his IR-ment. I see a small window of hope. Not very big, maybe a 2% chance or something of mih ciming back, but I’m going to hope for that. And Adam Schefter isn’t the most reliable source, is he?

13-3 next year! Baby!

That Torain is done with a clean tear of the ACL.

I scanned the lists

this morning and it doesn’t look promising. Not a lot of experience out there, especially one cut and go experience, so we may be looking at a relief back.

I would almost endorse Mike Bell here. Almost. I’m not quite to that point yet… :)

For experienced players

a quick way is to got to NFL.com and under players, list them by position. The first column indicates whether they are available, whether by being taken from developmental squad to active roster, or if they have gone to waivers and are now free agents.

For first and second year players with no home, I rely on my draft notes and a vague recollection of whether they were signed by a team or not…

Chris Mortensen of ESPN is reporting....

That the Pope will be staying in college for his senior year as he believes he help out Notre Dame with his running game, who is experiencing trouble with the groth of QB Jimmy Clausen.
The Pope was predicted to be an early first round pick, with the New Orlean Saints reportedly already interested in trading up for him.
It is not known whether his draft stock will be hurt by staying in college for one more year.
There are rumors of potential knee problems due to excessive praying.
Stay tuned for updates!

I have a possible back

Lynell Hamilton, 6’ 0", 235 lb, New Orleans Practice Squad, does have some injury concerns, but could be a good late season back

HS where he was an all-league, all-area and SuperPrep All-America selection as he gained over 2,300 yards and scored 29 touchdowns in his final two seasons…Earned four letters in football and track and two more in basketball…Born Aug. 5, 1985 in Stockton, Calif.
