Browns Game Review
Well the Broncos got the job done as all of us expected them to do, and ,of course, I am very pleased about that. Just a few things I was happy with...
Jay Cutler Was Poised: Jay looked calm the whole way through the game. Even though the Broncos were down 13 at the half, Jay was together and poised. He didn't try to force the ball to anyone, or make bad decisions (well except for that ball he should have thrown away that was almost picked off). And when Jay Cutler does this, he will always give us a great chance to win the game.
Eddie Royal (with cheese): Boy did Shanny find a great wide receiver for this offense! The things this kid does for the Broncos is amazing. The slant and go route he ran for the 93 yard touchdown was the momentum changer that gave the Broncos all the confidence to come back and win the game. This kid should definetly win Rookie of the Year.
Peyton Hillis: Peyton has been huge for us these past few games. With Ryan Torain and Selvin Young hurt, the Broncos had no one elsw to turn to. He jumped right in a made an impact for the Broncos. The spotlight of the NFL does not seem to be too big for this guy at all. The 4th and 1 carry on the game winning drive really showed what this kid is made of. Getting hit 3 yards in the backfield and carrying a guy on is back to stretch for the first down shows how punishing and motivated Hillis is. Some people may say, well he had only 24 yards rushing. Peyton Hillis made all of those yards count!!!!
Ryan Torain: Man, this kid was killin' it before he got hurt. He is fast and powerful and had a great 19 yard run. I was thinking to myself, this kid can carry the running game. Well, I guess we will have to wait until next year to see Torain in action again ;(
Wesley Woodyard: W.W. was all over the field against the Browns. How did he go undrafted? Shanny found a great player. He racked up 10 tackles and many of them were for losses. I think he has bright future in Denver.
Tony Scheffler: He went out into the game clearly not 100% and made some of the toughest catches a tight end can make. Not to mention a great throw to Scheff for a 39 yard completion. Way to play with some stones Scheff!
Now there is just two thing that I have a problem with, so I will just go through them quickly because I wanted to focus on the positives.
No Sacks: The Broncos had some pressure on Brady Quinn, and I give him credit for making plays, but we need to get atleast one sack!
Injuries: Wow. four runningbacks on IR, all three starting linebackers hurt, half of the secondary out, the injury bug has bit the Broncos HARD! But to look on the bright side, atleast the O-Line has been healthy. Knock on wood.
Overall, I give the Broncos a solid A-. They rose to the occasion and showed that they might have been down, but they were not out. They proved to the world that their season is not over! Good Job Broncos!!!

And you deserve it—great breakdown of the game, what went on—and the players involved.
The one thing I felt is the passion Woodyard brought to the defense. Last spring I did a little post stating that Woodyard was another Tom Jackson—what do you think?

i thought it was awesome when he started jawing with jamal lewis(or winslow. cant remember). it will be very interesting to see how he develops the rest of the season. If he keeps playing like this i think the Broncos could lock him up long-term.

You hit everything right on the button in your post and congrats on making the front page.
The injury bug continues to reside in Denver and that meant somebody had to step up and that is exactly what they did…..as a team.
So many times when our defense steps up our offense can’t take advantage by scoring. Yesterday they did and scored on every possession in the second half. The last was doesn’t count since we were knealing to end the game.
We can comeback on the road and yesterday was our proof.

It may be the most complete game...
…as a team so far this year. I hope it’s a sign of things to come. I’ve really got to admire the cajones these lesser knowns (future stars) showed.

Zappa brought up the PIT game from last year
and the remidner that we got this turnaround on the road, as opposed to the PIT game at home, should be noted.

I was reminded of the PIT game last year...which is why I am not ready to crown their asses just yet. ;-)

But he’d be 3rd on my RotY ballot behind Chris Johnson of the Titans and Matt Ryan of the Falcons.

Royal may not be the ROY candidate from our team
Although Royal is an absolute gem and phenomenal for our team, Clady and Hillis could get some consideration. If Hillis becomes our #1 RB and is utilized as he has been the past 2 games, lookout. He may be a consideration!

Keep in mind that there’s no bigger Eddie Royal fan outside of Denver than me, but Matt Ryan is playing like no rookie QB since Dan Marino. Royal’s still up there on my ballot, though.
Royal has been awesome for us
but I think I would still give the nod to Matt Ryan at this point with Chris Johnson a close second.
Royal with Cheese would be third with Iron Clady a close fourth.

Great post Broncoboy!
Styg and Zappa don’t you guys think that the Pit game was just a well played game and we were hoping to use that as momentum and a turning point and that this game was an L that we turned into a W. Learning how to win when you should lose, is the difference between 11-5 and 9-7.
I'm hoping this win was the difference between 7-9 and 9-7.
9-7 wins the AFC West I think. 10-6 definitely, but we’d have to beat some quality opponents on the road to get that 10-6 record. If we topple Atlanta next week then 10-6 is a very real possibility. :)

They had nothing to do with that. But on occasion, I am known to be funky, which they also had nothing to do with, although they did pile me with work so it’s more likely to come out.

you miss portions of the game because TD, Jamie Dukes (who is a total clown, for a former player he is as unknowledgeable about the game as anyone I have every heard) and the studio host get into coversations. Its irritating

not so fast my friends...
guys, (gals too) you need to temper all this enthusiasm with a little reality, you might start with watching the first half again if you recorded it.
before I get to the defense, let me ask,
“who is going to run the ball for our broncos, fir the rest of the season?
when are we going to learn that throwing the ball to a ’back is legal in the NFL?
Are we going to continue to allow JC to utilize his mobility, or will we just keep dropping him 7 yards back ,WITH AN EMPTY BACKFIELD, so that every defense knows what he is doing and where to find him?
Why is it taking JC / shanny so long to figure out they need to get OTHER receivers involved, before they start chucking the ball to MARSHALL like he is the only option?
Has JC ever had a discussion or film study about the check down concept?
after you answer yourselves all these questions, move on to our defense.

YES, I loved the win and the comeback performance, and its great to be able to enjoy this football week-end with a WIN already tucked under our belts, BUT…
we dont get to play the brownies every week, and Matt Ryan, Michael Turner (remember him/ ) are also bringing a much better “D” to the next , dare I say, "dog fight’ !

This game also showed the importance of Scheff-money too
When he isn’t on the field for some reason the field doesn’t seem as open. Team’s coverage over the middle becomes a little more tight allowing for Marshall and Royal and Stokedog to get open along the sides…And thats not even considering the fact he made 4 catches for 92 yards….I feel that aside from figuring out the running game (Which is a MUST) we need to keep Scheffler healthy…he just adds so much to the team by being on the field…

I think Hillis filled a nice Scheffeler-esque role in the Miami game, but now we need Hillis in the backfield. Hopefully playing on the injury didn’t prolong it, and the long week can get Scheff back and healthy. We do need him so much.

I love possitive reports! Of course it is a lot easier after a win, LOL. The only thing that bothered me in the article is you mentioning the O line. In the same sentence as Injuries. You notice I just avoided doing that, even at the expence of producing a response with bad grammer ! LOL!
We really need some “Heavy AntiInjBotics” to fight the bug that seams to have hit mile high. Perhaps DOC can come up with the right meds to cure that!
