Twelve-Four Maybe Baby!
We can thank Rig for this battle-cry.
OK Friends--It is Time Again!
I know this is getting old but I do not have it in me to imagine another loss It is time to think how we can win, and not think how we can lose. Let's get some possitive vibes going that maybe change the universe. Well, maybe that's a bit extreme, maybe keep the good things of Thursday ooze into next week.
This week we face Atlanta...if we do not beat Atlanta the 'Twelve-Four Maybe Baby' is dead--we must not think there is a chance of this. Three weeks into this season I don't think anyone, including all the NFL, thought any team could stuff this offense into nothing...and evereyone was and is right. The only thing that can stuff our offense is us--and we did it quite well--by the way. Four losses followed--bad Broncos.....
Now we are in for the fight for our lives to make the playoffs--we need to win this game--we will win this game. We need to believe this. We cannot get into the 'Wild Card Race'! We just can't! With four AFC loses and three of our loses 'AFC Wild Card' prospects we have no chance--we must win our division. We must win this game--dwell upon this truth--we must win this game.
As much as I want Atlanta to lose (when we play) I would still like to congradulate them on there turnaround this season, overcoming all the turmoil of last year, getting a great QB with your draft pick, and the wins none of us expected.
That being said--Atlanta will lose when we play. I have to believe this!
Again back to us! We had some funny 'bright-lights' show up in the youngsters when many of our starters went down the last two weeks.
Hillis was obvious, what a great two yard 'must' effort, Winborn, top tackler, Woodyard (second top tackler)--so full of the passion of, "Oh yea!! Just try it!! I gotta love Woodyard.
Funny our defense seemed to get better after all the starters went down--is there meaning in this?
Well here we go again....we will win this game!

You da man Mike Clark....
And I agree with you. this defense, particularly in the DB’s has got better.
Now, if we can just bring in Spencer Larsen to MLB we will have tonnes of fire…..BRING IN SPENCER!!!

boydy--lets not 'bring' Spencer, let's 'SPRING' Spencer on the unawaring.
The best defense is a good defense!

Spring in Spencer
and be open to the idea that Niko will PLAY better than he did last week. What he hasn’t gotten credit for was how well he did in getting the ASSIGNMENTS called mostly right, and he stated after the game that that was his priority: that is how a MLB should be thinking. He should be thinking about his teammates positions before worrying about which gap he is going to miss. With a week of practice he may look better. He may not. We have no definitive proof either way, just conjecture.
Of course, what we are SURE of is that Larsen is a hard hitter with upside, so I don’t fault anyone for wanting to start a rookie, who has been practicing with the offense all season, ahead of the vet. Especially after what our other rookies have been doing. I’m just saying that in the final anlysis, if Niko starts ahead of Larsen, it may not be as bad as people fear. We can still trust the coaches if they make that decision.
I like your question about our defense getting better when the starters were out. Personally I think it raised accountability as the major benefit, and prompted some new leaders as a side benefit. Really, those two ideas are intimately linked. We didn’t lose just anyone on defense: we lost our two defensive captains, as voted by their teammates.

styg--quit the IQ thing
We need to beat Atlanta when the game comes—can you agree with that?
The best defense is a good defense!

LOL
Hey styg, I like your IQ! The point on leadership is recognized wih one exception, and that is that all these “Leaders are still in the locker room, right?”

Excellent points regarding Niko styg
I am anxious to see HT’s Chalk Talk this week. Once again, the trenches will determine the outcome of this game. If Turner is smashing up the middle for 6-8 yards every play we are going to have a very long afternoon. On the other hand if we can force Ryan to pass more than he wants to I think DOOM can have a great game against the replacement to the back-up for Sam Baker.
That’s ok with me. We’re playing for wins, not media publicity....HT 9/11/08
Actually...
FirstFan’s analysis has a starring role in this week’s Chalk Talk. Tune in Thursday to check it out folks!

Speaking about worrying about which gaps the MLB is going to miss
any word on Webster’s status?
The last thing I want to see is have him come back and automatically be inserted as the starter no matter how well everything is going without him. Is he day-to-day, out for an extended period?
I would assume that if he were put on IR that we would have heard about it.

He mentioned
that he had the same injury as DJ, but I think he said it before any extensive look had been taken. Something like this I would imagine the beat reporters may be the first to know.

WOW we are really getting beat up--I didn't even know Webster became a stat.
and I thought last year was bad.
The best defense is a good defense!
And last week's young players. Yes!
Awesome post dude...
…It was like I was reading my own words!
I see a bit of the 2005 hard hitting defense in these young guys…let’s see what they can do.
There is only One Moment—this moment—the Eternal Moment of Now
sirsam--there is a real hope with this team
but my memory goes way back to To Tom jackson aka Wesley Woodyard…..don’t know why………Woodyard just reminds me of Jackson—for some reason.
But that is not the point of this post. This post is to let everyone know that we will not lose, Atlanta will go down, and 12-4 maybe baby is where we are headed./
The best defense is a good defense!
And last week's young players. Yes!
We WILL NOT lose!!
Say it with me now….
We…WILL…NOT…lose!!
There is only One Moment—this moment—the Eternal Moment of Now
I actually thought Niko went OK against Cleveland....
and I will be happy if he is playing as well. It just seems our young guys are bringing some fire and belief to this team. i think Larsen can add to this.
There is no substitute for heart….and larsen has miles of it!

Its funny though--our top two tacklers--I believe were W and W Jamie and Wesley

You said it Thursday and it worked so
I won’t doubt you this time.
we will win this game.

Styg's right
We haven’t seen much of Niko. They had a strong feeling that his skills can be worthwhile – and in essence, Thursday was his first game with us. I’m a big fan of Larsen, but if he did learn the position and play he’d make all the rookie errors and need to grow into the Mike responsibilities. Ditto Niko – but he knows the position better. I’m very open to seeing him to well, and I hope that he does.
Now is the time to know that all you do is sacred

Doubt it
I highly doubt 12 and 4 10 and 6 is almost out of the question. In order for us to even go 10-6 we would have to win 3 games out of this line up, ATL, NYJ, CAR, BUF. I am leaving the SD game at the end as a toss up and wont predict anything cause it will be whoever wants it more. I would argue we can win NYJ and BUF, and CAR just about out of the question. Sorry guys we just are not that good. That leaves this game as the game to keep a 10-6 hope alive.
ATL looks good and plays better as a team. We are too prone to mistakes and I dont see that suddenly changing. Even in that Cleveland game you could add 2 more INTs to Jay had the DBs not dropped them. We are still the same team except with more injuries.
I am guessing at best 9-6 going into the SD game and I got SD 8-7. SD wins I am pretty sure they would get the tie breaker.
P.S. I cant imagine loses to OAK and KC by either team so those were gimmies inmy prediction.
I got SD losing to PIT, IND. Like I said I think its going to come down to that last game.
That is what worries me...
Which O will show?

This can't be true until after this weeks game--this week Atlanta needs to go down.
