We have a defense compiled of a bunch of guys that could not start for any other team,

depth guys. That’s fine. Cut some guys that arn’t producing to thier contract, fine. Add a few playmaking rookies and maybe a beast FA or two and our depth guys won’t look so bad. Blowing things up and starting over would be the dumbest thing imaginable. This organization is smarter than that. Blowing it up is what happens on message boards, open threads, and organizations run by Dan Snyder, Jerry Jones, or managed my Matt Millin.

As I said before, firing Slowick for managing a team comprised of average to below average talent would be terrible. Remember in the preseasn when someone here posted player ratings based on positive plays vs. negative plays, etc? I would be interested to se how that looked now for our font seven.

Thats garbage.....we looked decent against Atrlanta and Jets because he had to use what he had in the right way.

Larsen looked great, WW looked great, Dre played well. Our “stars” come back and he reverts to being conservative.
He has no idea about his players, their strengths and has loyalty to veterans whan they have proven nothing but liabilities to the team. thats why he is known as a players coach…he looks after his boys regardless of performance…its pathetic……Any coincidence that Bell is looking bad…..hes playing soft zone again with players that are not suited to it.
I WILL GIVE NO LEE WAY TO SLOWIK….HE SUCKS!

Sorry man,

but I have no idea how you could make those judements unless you were inside the locker room. Shanny has always played the best players. There is a long track record there, and unless you have some sources inside the locker room I don’t buy your accusaions. Does it suck to see WW on the sidelines? Yes. Is he better than DJ? I don’t think so. Was Larsen really that great? Also, the soft zone, etc. is based on the pathetic front seven in my mind.

We will agree to disagree man...

You are a good cat Butte. SHanny has let Slowik have hsi way…he has even said that in interviews.
My only question: When did our D look the best? What were the reasons for it? Whate were the differences?
Your argument is good, I just dont agree.
Have a good man.
The most important thing: ALL of us here want to see the best the Broncos can be. We jsut see thing differentr.

Doesn't matter

We’re 8-8. QB’s are judged on their record. Stats are meaningless. May not be his fault, and it’s not, but that’s just the way it is.

He has absolutely no defense, and no running game to speak of. He also gets no good field position because of the defense and ST. Yet he still puts up numbers and does all he can to win.

"Players" coaches is not what a byoung team needs....

They need coaches that demand perfection, work and make environments that breed success. In high end sport, acoaches job is to set there athletes up for success….not failure.
What have you seen Guru? I have seen veterans not held responsible, and given back ther starting roles carte blanche, seen rookies play with heart and passion and relegated to the bench. I have seen young coaches given too much leeway and not enough guidance. Is it any co incidence we have come out gang busters (when Shanny scripts plays) yet we become prediactable when it is left in Bates hands?
As I have said, I am JAZZED on our potential, but unitl Shanny matches our potential with top flight coaching, then we will have “what if” seasons and we will sell this team short.

And there it is

If we can put together a defensive draft HALF as monumental as the offensive picks we’ve had recently there’s a possibility next year this time we all won’t be sitting with our heads in our hands like this. Let’s hope…

The only one worth keeping is D.J

I think he isn’t 100% but he’s young enough to try one more year…

Even him

I’m not sold on. He sucked tonight.

I think forgetting this game is the worst thing you can do

Especially if you’re in this organization. You need a big time reality check right now if you’re the Broncos. This team is just flat out not any good. Especially on defense. You need to use this game to evaluate your roster and look at all the complacency that was going on out there tonight.

We just pressured it to much with a dumb arse DC and BAD talent on D…thats a woeful combination

by CombatChuk on Dec 28, 2008 9:33 PM MST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Here will be the interesting part...

Who loses their job over this? Like we all discussed earlier, how many defensive coordinators has this team let go for FAR less than this? This was the most embarrassing defensive performance by this team this year without question. In fact it trumps anything that happened last year.

I’d hate to see us turn over another coordinator so fast but there’s no reason whatsoever to perform like this and keep your job. Just none.

by TheMastermind on Dec 28, 2008 9:30 PM MST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Word. LOL

I wanted to be patient with the D all year and I was but there’s no way you keep your job after this. Heads are gonna roll. Peggy, put Mike on the couch until he gets this sorted out because another season like this and I am going to have a lot of trouble still believing in a certain someone, and I don’t want to go there.

Thats the thing MM, Mikey is Bi Polar...

He did such a good job with injuries and making things work with rookies, yet screwed the pooch on coaching staff and game planning when out “veterans” were back.
I question his evaluation of staff, and wonder if he hires people that hecan control and are not a threat to his fiefdom.
It is a strange dynamic!

Cant forget this game or it wont be motivation...

Shanny better be in Bowlen’s office tomorrow and they better be gfiving out and pink slips a plenty starting with Slowik.
Time to start building a D to match the O

Priority in FA and Draft has to be Defense.

Picking up Haynesworth would be huge, his ability to collapse the pocket tends to make the DEs better…

by CombatChuk on Dec 28, 2008 9:36 PM MST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I think Denver needs to

pick a damn defensive scheme and get the personnel for it in the draft and free agency. Stop this carousel of schemes, gimmicks, and idiot linebackers who overpursue. Nate Webster, Champ Bailey, and the D-Line have to go.

Defensive futility is on Shannahan as well

I know it is kind of taboo to talk about Shannahan and his job security around Denver, but he is the head football coach. The offense, defense, and ST falls in his lap as well. Right now, I would say definitively that Shanny is simply not getting it done. Has he lost his touch? I don’t know. I just don’t think his job security should be out of the question by any means.

As long as there is a Pat Bowlen

There will be a Mike Shannahan.

by Greyson on Dec 28, 2008 9:39 PM MST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I realize that.

I do. I know that Bowlen will never ever under any circumstance fire Shannahan. I just don’t know why more people don’t talk about it, that’s all.

by RyanBuff on Dec 28, 2008 9:40 PM MST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

There's been lots of talk about it

Both this season and last season, at least how I’ve seen it. But I absolutely agree that Shannahan should not just received a free pass to go on to the next season. He was part of the problem this season, no denying it.

You are absolutely correct

I can’t imagine Slowik keeping his job at this point. But the buck stops at the top. Technically they finished better than last year but if we don’t see a real return to playoff contention next year you’re going to have a hard time convincing a lot of fans we have the right man running the show.
