I'm shocked. Shanny's gone?
This is incredible.
Are you guys in favor of this move? I can't believe he's gone. I like your team, LOVE your quarterback - and have a spot in my heart for your classy fans. I'm very interested to know if this is a shock to you guys, or if there were grumblings about it.
Incredible. I've never been so surprised by an NFL coaching move as this one... at least not in recent memory.
Here's hoping you guys have a good off-season. You'll get some big defensive help, just like we hopefully will.

I'm schocked
Big surprise! I don’t necessarily like it, but we will have to see who gets brought in.

Upset
But intrigued as to what we’re going to do.
Maybe we’ll go for a defensive HC, new coordinator and keep Dennison and Bates in charge of the offence. That’d make a lot of sense. Promote Goodman to GM.
But we’d better have a plan…I’m still shocked, I never thought it’d happen like this.
Oh, a bit of light relief: Kyle Shanahan for HC :D

See - you laugh, but I think it's possible.
Not as the head coach, but to provide continuity for the offense as the OC. Maybe Kyle wouldn’t want to run the offense that his daddy just got fired from overseeing – but still…
I’m really, really worried that the Broncos are going to poach one or both of Kyle Shanahan and Alex Gibbs.

Answer to your original post
1) I don’t know if I’m in favor of it. I am a fan of Shanahan and have always been one. That being said, the team has been stagnant and if Bowlen does things right this could very well be a good move.
2) No there were not grumblings from the organization about it…there has been a good sized collection of fans that have been calling for his head for some time, but they have always seemed like the-cup-is-half-empty types to me. The last we heard from Pat Bowlen in the last offseason was that Shanny was his coach for the foreseeable future. This a complete shock.
Alex Gibbs, Kyle Shanahan? Bring them on…I’d love either one of them. I know we can’t get Kubiak, but yeah you could share the love over here!!!
I don’t want breakaway speed. I want break-some-poor-fool-as-I-bowl-you-over power getting 6 yards off a play that should have been stopped for 2 at most.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!
Man, I’m really worried about this. CRAP!!!
I’m just shocked that they would scrap what might be the best offense in the NFL. I thought they would just totally revamp the defense again. How can they get rid of the current offense!?!?!?!?!

That isn't happening
There is no way they are going to trash the whole offense. I’m actually hoping they keep Bates to run the offense…that way we have consistency there.

Not necessarily
Keep Dennison, and we keep the current system on the ground. Keep Bates, and we keep a lot of the offence, although it won’t be signature Shanahan.
If we get a defensive minded HC, then I think the offence will be very much Shanahan.

and my first response was hmm...
I know most people were surprised by the call but it just made sense to me. We need a shot in the arm at D and Mike Shanahan the GM was killing the team. He could not pick good defensive players to save his life (or job apparently. ) Not in free agency, not in the draft. We have plenty of coaching talent in Bates and the other positon coaches. We need to raise the bar on D.
I love Shanahan the coach and will always value what he did for the team. I am thankful for all the time and success he has given this team. But we need to get a defensive guy in here to take care of bussiness and rebuild that unit. Here is hoping for the best (and I really hope that it isn’t Cowher.)

Hi H-Diehards, thanks for stopping by
I think we are all schocked and dismayed here—with all the injuries we had this year—I thought Shanny did a great job using the cards he was dealt.
There may be a clue, however, in the rumors out there. Rumors have it the Bill Parcells is leaving Miami if the team sells—which they will. I have a feeling that Shanny didn’t want to give up his VP duties and become just a coach.
Just a theory at this point…but I’ve been watching this game for many years.

I’m still shocked.
That said – I didn’t realize that the offensive coordinator wasn’t also fired. I thought they cleaned out the entire staff… so I’m not as worried about having Gibbs or Kyle poached.
You guys will land a great HC, I have no doubt. I’d like to see you guys get Cowher or Spagnuolo – as I think they’re the two best names out there.

I don't think Shanny was fired--I think he stepped down.
I hate to say it but I think pride got in the way of Shanny becoming ‘coach only’….
Time will tell if this is what happened…………time will tell…
Thanks for your concern by the way!

I am still in shock
I am not as enamoured with Bill Cowher as most people are here. I dont know who I want to replace Mike. Being a long time Bronco fan, I would love to see Kubiak come back, but I dont see that happening. I really dont know what to think right now

Cowher
Whilst a great coach doesn’t really fit here immediately. We’re not built for either the 3-4 or power running.

Well, you could say the same thing about Miami and it worked for them
They scraped 4-3 and went to a 3-4, power running, I don’t know if Cowher would mess much with the offense other than getting a strong RB, think of Hillis in a Jerome Bettis role, very similar.

Another Texan fan here
I’ve come to appreciate you guys as one of the classier sets of fans in the SB universe, and we consider Mike Clark something of a lucky charm over at BRB, so I thought I’d chip in with my $.02.
I’m pretty surprised to see this happen, but Denver hasn’t really had the best results the last few years. Perhaps it’s time to freshen things up a bit. This wouldn’t be the only time something like this has happened. Big Shan is a great coach and I’m sure he’ll land on his feet somewhere.
Meanwhile, good luck finding a new coach, guys. You have a good nucleus on offense to build around. Hope to see our teams fighting it out in the playoffs next year.

Worried....?
You Texans shouldnt get so wrapped up about Kyle/Gibbs. We’ll keep Jeremy Bates and Rick Dennsion so we dont really need them. We have “Zone Blocking” down to an art. What we need is a defensive minded guru to do for the defense what Mike did for our offense.
I do agee with several in here. I dont think Mike was fired. I believe he would not fire Slowik, and told Pat to fire him instead. This way he keeps his 3yr (20M) buyout, and makes Bowlen look like a real tough hombre’ of an owner. It’s a win-win. Im sure the two will remain friends and at some point in time, get Kyle back to Denver, or perhaps Kubiak. Personally, Kubiak is my 1st choice and I believe he would come to Denver given the right circumstances….sorry Texans, had to throw that one in there!

I'm not so sure I think Kubes will jump ship
He’s on the cusp of greatness in Houston, he’s a Houston native, and if Papa Shan actually was pushed out, I can’t see why he’d want to go work for the guy that fired his mentor. I think we’ll have Kubes for a while.

Coaching the Texans is Kubes' dream job
He’s not going anywhere by choice. Now – if we go in the tank next year and he gets fired, I assume Denver would be his first choice (if not Texas A&M).
Like Grind said – Kubes is a Houston guy. He’s never been shy about stating his desire to be in Houston.

I'm not at all worried anymore
Because I was under the mistaken impression that all the offensive coaches had also been fired. Didn’t realize they kept the OC in place… which of course makes sense considering your elite offense. I just somehow got it in my head that Bowlen lost his mind and blew out ALL of the offensive coaches.

U R Q'ed in
Luv the fact that U R one of those individuals that truely follow the game. Let me Q U for a second. The truth is that all of the changes that will take place will be based upon the new coach that Pat selects. Who that HC keeps or dumps, is upto him! That is how CLASSY Pat is!
Pat Bollin (?sp) has always, and that is what makes him “classy”, GIVEN, the head coach the full reign of the team, in terms of allowing the HC, to work HIS program!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
