So who is the next head coach?
So hopefully the shock of the Shannahan firing has settled a little bit in your minds. Now we have to move on and look at our options for a new HC. I just wanted to put this post up as a place for informal discusion of who us MHR bloggers want as the head of the next regime. Will we wait a year for our real choice, or are we going to grab an available coach now. The Broncos are supposed to be the premier job opening this season, so just about any option should be concidered.
The search is on and I would like to know who you are looking forward to being the next HC of our great organization. So post the name of the coach you want and a reason why he will/should be concidered for the job.
Or post where you think Shanny will end up, and how well he will do there.
This is a Fan-Created Comment on MileHighReport.com. The opinion here is not necessarily shared by the editorial staff of MHR

2 options:
1/ Pioli as GM, McDanniels as HC and Crennel as DC (Pats connection)
2/ Marty as GM, Cowher as HC.

No
Maybe Pioli as Gm, but Mc Daniels has more to prove. Plus Bowlen said he is going to retain most of his offensive staff. Plus Crennell isnt that good. Remember BB was the architect of the defense Crennell was credited for running

McDaniels has made a perennial pro bowler
out of a guy that hasn’t started a game since High school.
thats good enough for me!

dude
Cassell is NOT a perennial pro bowler. No way no how. I will bet a case of beer he never makes a pro bowl. Think about it, there are reasons he is a career back up.

Brady started at Michigan.
He was just too slow footed or something to succeed in the NFL.
In Bowlen we trust. Find someone special.

You are right....but I thought he was sitting behind Henson most of the time!

They split time pretty evenly...
but by the end Brady was the starter. Henson had left to go play for the Yankees. Brady was deemed by at least one scout as the slowest-footed QB ever, and that’s why he fell to the 6th round. Through superior coaching and practice habits, Brady’s footwork is now textbook-perfect, (or was before the injury.)

I back BFSISD on that bet...
Cassel is an OK player, and New England is going to get somebody to give them a first rounder for him this year. He’ll subsequently revert to being Matt Cassel when saddled with lesser talent.

I'm on board with what boydy says.
Though I like the second option better. I know nothing about McDanniels.

You should
He’s the mind behind the New England offense.
He would do some really really good things with Cutler.
I don’t want breakaway speed. I want break-some-poor-fool-as-I-bowl-you-over power getting 6 yards off a play that should have been stopped for 2 at most.

1 sounds good
A young offensive minded coach and a 3/4 defensive coach. Sorry #2 does not excite me at all. Team conservative with 2 men with a ton of NFL experience and only 1 title to show for it. Shanny outclassed them in San Fran before coming here. Cowher does have tons of experience winning the weakest division in football so he may be well suited for the AFC West. How can any longtime Bronco fan be pimping Marty? Denver has been beating up on Marty teams forever.

More intrigue...
Check this link: http://www.profootballtalk.com/2008/12/31/cowher-didnt-want-favre/
Cowher did not want Favre, but he sure as hell loves Cutler!

whoa there partner...
2 things we know that are facts:
1. Schottenheimer/Cowher can get it done (building teams, not all SB winners)
2. Pioli as GM is a good move, look at the Pats.
anything involving crennel is OUT. Dont want him to do for Denver what he did to Cleveland. However D minded coaches would be great like Schwartz (Tn), Ryan (Bal), Williams (Car) as long as we had offensive assistants still here (Bates,Dennision, Turner). That secures our offense and builds on very strong offensive unit, while bringing in actual “TALENT” to give more balance to our team.
Schlereth put it very well on 1st Take this morning…“Denver has street veterans that would barely make ST players or even rosters on most NFL teams”. Denver never had a chance.
Just my opinion…

Nice post HogBlog....
Only reasoning for Crennel is he is part of that Pats connection.
If I could have ANY DC I would take Jim Johnson from Philly!

GM then HC
1) We need a Scot Pioli as GM.
2) I think he will bring in a defense-minded HC. I like Spags a lot.
3) Hope the new administration have enough sense to continue to give the offense the consistency they need by retaining most of the offensive coaches.
4) OC and DC, I don’t have a clue as to what they are going to do. More will be revealed.
BTW – I really liked how the Goodmans handled last year’s draft.

Spags
I really like Spags. I think he could do a lot with some of the players on D (like Doom, Moss etc.). The Defensive HC route seems to be the best one I think as the O is one healthy running back away from being Championship-calibre. We’d better be quick if we want him though as the Jets are lining him up…it’d be a bit of a strange hire for them mind, seeing as he’s a 4-3 guy and they’ve spent a lot of money switching to the 3-4.

I approve of this
Pioli/Spags would be an awesome combination.

Seems like I jumped the gun...
on the GM first hiring. Pat said HC pick is his priority. If that is the case, I think the GM comes from within (Goodman). The more I look at this scenerio, the better I like it. Continuity and comfortability in the front office and an understanding of what works and doesn’t in the current coaching situation. I sure hope Pat gets a Spags type guy, but I am sure he won’t make the decision in a vacuum. Goodman will have a lot of input as he is staying and has Bowlen’s respect.

I'm with you on Goodman...
I think Pat already has him penciled in as GM. His near dismissal of the GM questions made it seem to me like he already had his guy, and only had to worry about the HC position.

which could be a kink in the Cowher plan
since he will insist on bringing his own head of player-personnel in. Things, of course, could change but signs indicate that that is the reason he turned down CLE and NYJ…
