PrintThe Broncos have been gracious enough to create a live stream of the presser coverage of Mike Shanahan dismissal. Obviously KOA and other stations are covering it, but thought I would share the link for those who want to watch. KOA keeps going out on me, and this link looks great.

I know this isn't a popular decision everywhere, but...
one thing you can’t argue is the guy that owns this team is genuine…as someone who can’t truly claim to be a Bronco fan yet I’m impressed today with Bowlen and his willingness to stick by his guns, and circle the wagons so to speak…

These two gentlemen are two of the classiest acts in all of sports. I am glad we have Bowlen for an owner and I will forever be a Shanny fan after seeing the way he has handled this whole thing, the both of them have handled it.

What a classy press conference by both men. Bowlen was practically giving a job reference for Shanahan during his talk, and Shanahan made the best case that could ever be made for the Broncos job to any coach and GM candidate out there.
Seriously, I can’t ever remember a fired coach giving a press conference at the facility in front of the team logo. (maybe because we haven’t had a new coach for 14 years!) Usually the press catches the fired guy as he leaves the building with a carboard box on the way to his car. It’s just so nice and refreshing to see both sides of this acting like respectful gentleman. I could not be more impressed.
Mike Shanahan, I wish you the best of luck wherever you go. You’ll always be among my top Broncos people and I’ll miss you.

That was just good
That was very emotional. Both Bowlen and Shanahan are very classy people. I do believe Bowlen will get a good coach but it will be impossible to get a coach as good at Shanahan, which Bowlen admitted. I almost started to cry(I know no crying in the NFL) when Shanahan almost lost it. This is a very emotional time for everyone that is involved including the fans. Shanahan will be a Bronco for life and I could see him coming back one day as maybe a part owner or consultant, something of that nature. I just hope Bowlen does not regret this decision and we as a team do not loose our focus or our way. Also I LOVE how Shanahan kept using the word WE

Hate to admit it
but I’m right there with ya. I had to fight the tears back when Shanny got choked up. Very emotional and classy press conference. And I also thought it was great how Shanny kept saying we, as if he were still part of the organiztion. Last thing in the world he wanted was to leave.

wow. I watched on the NFL network and Adam Schefter had some pretty good insights regarding the organization and how the room must have been filled with all the secretaries, security guards, assistant coaches, personnel people, etc.— the whole organization, just like any other organization that has a big change to announce.
Must have been real tough for both those gentlemen and everyone else in the room. I wish Mike the best and whoever lands this guy is going to get one hell of a football coach, and I’m really excited about the future of our club.

I can't believe it. We are just supposed to move on just because Pat Bowlen feels like we need to move in another direction.
What direction is that Pat? How can you not even think about who is going to be the next head coach or if you want a gm or not? If this was going to be a tough decision for him why would he do it? He also said that he wanted a coach that had a 10 in each category. There is no such coach. I don’t know who is worse, Pat Bowlen or Al Davis. Give me a break Pat…you don’t even know who a candidate for the job is! COME ON!!!!! :(

I wouldn't take all of those comments
at face value. Pat’s classy enough to refrain from commenting on what it was about Shanny that wasn’t working for him, and surely he must have at least some ideas for successors.

Why would he?
It wouldn’t be smart to just start listing names if he hasn’t contacted anyone or hasn’t sat down and talked to all those that he’ll be consulting with. He doesn’t have to keep the fans or media informed about every step of the process. Plus, he can’t exactly go throwing about names that might currently have other jobs.
And if you mean simply
that he should have said “I have some people in mind,” I don’t even think he needed to say that. I’m sure he has people in mind that he might look into more, but he would have names even without really sitting down and getting into the meat of the search. Just because there might be names that come to him off the top of his head, doesn’t mean he feels remotely sure about anything yet, before he’s really gotten in-depth yet..

Look, Pat can not comment on who he wnats because he needs to give consideration of a minority canidate. I think he will keep things close to the vest until after the offical interview process is done.

suggests that he doesn’t have a plan? Honestly, do you think he’s just fallen ass-backwards into millions of dollars and a top-notch sports organization? I understand being bummed that Shanahan was fired, but assertion that Bowlen fired Shanahan without a thought of the future is a bit over the top.

The fact that he said they haven't started
the process of finding a replacement is bogus. When talking to the media, coaches and owners will never tell you everything because the media will twist it somehow. As an owner, there is no way that when you decide to fire a coach that you don’t have some kind of plan or idea of who you want.
Well, that has to been the hardest conference for both guys. It is a sad day for us all.
