2,000 YD Rushing Season
| NET YARDS RUSHING | 1331 | |
| Total Rushing Plays | 297 | |
| Average gain per rushing play |
4.5 |
|
As you can see we only need 223 more yds per game for the next 3 games to have a 2,000 yd rushing season. At 4.5 avg. gain per rushing play we only need about 49.5 carries per game. Any one think we are going to make it? I didn't think so.
But next year if we stay Healthy I'm sure we will. IMHO next year I would like to see us keep Pittman, Hillis, Torain, and Aldridge. I say get what we can for Hall and Young. If Bell does well maybe Coach can work his magic and get a draft pick out of him. Young would have to really come on strong late for him to be worth anything in a trade. Then I say we pick up someone in the draft, 3rd round or later. You all are a lot smarter than me what do you all think?

I think I want to keep 10 running backs on our roster next year. lol
I think we should keep Young over Pittman. And we should draft a guy. There is no guarantee that any of these guys(save for Hillis) are all that durable. Hillis got injured on a freak play that had him getting flipped upside down and twisted…freak play.

Is it illegal to have your entire practice squad be one position?
If it isn’t, I say we do that.

Pittman has to stay
He’s way too good to let go as long as he wants to keep playing. If he has stuff in the tank, he’s already shown that we can rely on him. I’d keep on as our 3rd team back though. He doesn’t need wear and tear when we can have Hillis / Bell or Hillis / Young doing most of the work.

Sounds good to me
I like Hillis as the main back and Young as change of pace, with Pittman insurance for Hillis and Bell (or Torain?) insurance for Young.

I like the idea of holding on to Pittman for one more year.
We can probably do it on the cheap and he would be a great back up for Hillis. Or we put them both on the field at the same time.

Will he be coming back though. I think he will be like 58 years old at the start of preseason.

And I’ll bet either could block for the other. That could drive some defenses crazy.

How about...
Would anyone be in favor of picking up Justin Fargas? I don’t know if he would be available. I don’t know his contract situation. I don’t know how much he would cost. I really like him as a player. If he is available, and cheaper than (or close in price) Pittman, I say we do it.

Only hillis, maybe torain
have any reasonable trade value I would think (and I’d like to hang on to both of them). There isn’t too much harm in bringing a whole bunch of these guys like Hall, Aldridge, Young, Pittman, Bell into camp it seems to me. Unless the perfect back falls into our laps day two and is a good value pick, I see no reason to draft anyone. Enough different backs have been successful for us that I wouldn’t be too worried. Everyone can’t get injured again, right?

Maybe Detroit will trade for Bell again
but, I guess since Millen isn’t there anymore, that won’t happen and who do they have that we would want……..
I’d like to see us keep Hillis, Train, Pittman and Alridge. Selvin has proven that he can’t stay healthy enough for a full season and Hall’s fumbles in the NE game soured me of him so he can go as well.
Who knows, maybe we’ll find another diamond in the rough between Pope and Boyd?

My guess for the Broncos RB position battle
P. Hillis, R. Torain (battle for starter though both will get touches)
M. Pittman FB/HB role similar to earlier this year
Pinnock back up FB
Draft pick, Draft pick….depending on how good they are is where they will play, probably starter competition.
Aldridge to the practice squad, everyone else is let go.
I would love to see us try to pry D. Williams away from Carolina!

Hillis
Don’t for a second think about letting him go. His injury doesn’t need surgery. He’ll be back next year bigger and stronger and Shanahan now knows what he can do.
Torain, on the other hand, suffered a major injury that required surgery and most people agree that it takes two years to totally recover. Add to that the fact that he’s had almost no experience in the NFL, and I don’t see how we can count on him for much in 09. I hope I’m wrong, and I really hope we can keep him for the long run (pun intended).

RBs
Shanahan was up front about planning on Hllis in the future. He’s a piece of the puzzle that we’ve been looking for. Young – maybe, if he ever stays healthy. Torain if he gets healthy, Aldrige should be fun to watch, pittman perhaps a good power option.
But I do hope to see Boyd this year – Shanahan wanted him in the 7th round (we did even better) and his eye for RBs is legenday. Even better is the fact that he’s currently healthy

Well I may as well put in my two cents.
Obviously Hillis is back—but wouldn’t surprise if Shanny developed an H-Back scheme around him.
I say we keep Alridge—if for no other reason to spell Eddie returning kicks.
Pitman comes back as a full-back (Shanny loves a player with heart)—freeing up Spencer larsen for linebacker.
If Torain can stay healthy—he’s in—in fact I think he’ll have a break-out year next year..
Selvin gets another year—but if it starts looking like this one again—will get waived.
Hall will not be back.

ouch. In order for Sheff to be in their he needs to make himself a dominant, blocking tight-end. He'll need to take that up with his play.
As funny as this sounds, (and remember we are talking next year) I think Hillis and Sheff will be competing for a need that Shanny desires…………and Hillis will win.
Has nothing to do with this year…but I’ve seen stranger things.

So ...
In personal opinion the only three I say we keep are from this rookie class, Hillis Alridge and Torain all are very capable backs. Our personal version of new york’s earth wind and fire I call it Flatten (Hillis) Kick (Alridge), and Trample (Torain). I do think we need to address our sports trainer. We seem to have way too many injuries this season.

i read that post by mike clark
and i didnt even realize the difficulty it would cause for a defense until then. But the thing is, how long can we rely on a dynamic offense to carry this team. We really need to shore up the defense. Maybe this is a comment for another post, but i think that our formations and personnel are okay right now on offense (that is if the young RBs develop and progress). I think we are really a safety and and some lineman away from being DOMINANT again.
by uclabruin34 on Dec 9, 2008 10:33 PM MST reply actions 0 recs
Power backs are set.
They are Hillis, Torrain, and Pittman. But Shanny always likes to keep a couple of speed backs as change of pace, and that is the only question. Who are the 3 speed backs he will keep. I say it will be Alridge, Selvin Young, and Cory Boyd – who has decent size and speed. I think we may all be impressed with Cory Boyd down the stretch this season. And yes, I think Shanny will keep 7 total backs next year (throw in Pinnock as true FB).

I Keep Thinking...
What if, sitting in the 20’s of the first round, a franchise-type RB falls into our laps? It’s happened before (2004 and 2006 come to mind). Let’s just call him Knowshon Moreno (or Chris “Beanie” Wells, if he’s your cup of tea) and try it on for size. I’m on board with either an MLB or S (in that order) there, trust me, but what if we felt confident that we could find the necessary starters at those positions in the 2nd and 3rd rounds, via free agency or trade? It’s far too early to speculate on draft specifics, but I guy can dream, can’t he? Cutler, Marshall, Royal and Scheffler in the air, Moreno/Wells, Hillis and Graham powering the running game, all behind that unbelievable line; all young, all talented and in the fold for years to come…

I just can’t see spending an early draft pick on another one, no matter how highly touted. We’ve just got too many needs on the other side of the ball.

I was hoping for it against NE, but that was such a bad showing all around that it probably would have been picked off and run back for a TD…
