first 3 picks of the draft

I think that our first 3 picks of the draft should be on offense. Our first priority is to beat san diego and win the division. The only way to do that is to get bigger and meaner up front, cause their D-line has been pushing our O-line around like rag dolls for years now. So I think we should take Brandon Albert G from virgina in the first round. He is perfect for our scheme and would be a steal at #12. Then take the best WR available in the second, perhaps James Hardy or Sweed cause Cutler needs alot of guys to throw to (if we dont sign one in FA). Then in the 3rd take the best OT available. Go defense with the rest of the picks.  I believe that our Oline is a weakness and Cutler needs to be protected. After watching the super bowl and the chargers game against us on christmas, it is apparent that a great O-line is essential and it is what allowed us to win super bowls.

This draft
is certainly in the favor of teams looking to upgrade their offense.

I have pleaded that all I want from the Broncos is not to reach in this draft.  It is the same thing as saying draft offense if that is what you have the most leverage with.

The draft is only one part of team building, and even though we have needs on defense, it would make a lot of sense to have an offensive top-heavy draft, if that is what is out there.

When the draft gives you lemons, make lemonade!!

Seriously?
Look, I'm not opposed to drafting for value, even if that means picking offensive players early and often.  That said, taking a guard at #12 overall is simply insane.  Sure, Albert is likely to be the first OG selected in this draft, but if that happens before the middle of the 2nd round I think everyone would be surprised.  I would not mind taking a look at him with our choice in that round, but not sooner.

As for a WR in the second round, I'd prefer to steer clear of Hardy and his off-field issues and Sweed is might be fine, though I think I'd prefer someone like Devin Thomas if he's still around.  Once again, I think LBs like Curtis Lofton and Quentin Groves or Xavier Adibi would be fine value at true positions of need.

Finally, pin-pointing a position like OT in the 3rd round without any real targets goes against your value drafting strategy.  I actually think that the valuable OTs will be taken early and often, so the depth available in the third will be elsewhere.  Those are just my two (or three) cents.

My Mini-Mock.
1 - 12 - Kenny Phillips, FS, Miami
2 - 43 - Curtis Lofton, MLB, Oklahoma
4 - 105 - Jordy Nelson, WR, Kansas State
4 - 116 - Eric Young, OG, Tennessee
5 - 132 - Wesley Woodyard, SS, Kentucky
5 - 143 - Ezra Butler, OLB, Nevada
7 - 203 - Lionel Dotson, DT, Arizona

I know people are down on Phillips, but he's fine value at #12 compared to the likely alternatives.  Best case would have been taking Reggie Nelson last year and Derrick Harvey this year, but you can't live in the past.  Lofton could start in the middle and D.J. would shift outside, were Butler would at least bring depth and some competition for the opposite side.  Nelson isn't the best complement to the WR we already have, but he's a good prospect and could work his way into a starting role in the future at the next level.  Young was part of a sterling o-line at Tennessee and his position provides good value in the middle rounds.  Woodyard could try his hand as an undersized OLB, but he'd be better off staying at safety and learning under Lynch; he'd be a good protege and eventual replacement.  Finally, Dotson gives us another body to put in the middle.  He should grow into his frame a bit more and could be a useful player in the future.  Thoughts?

Not just MHR..
Its not just the MHR people who are starting to question taking Phillips at #12, it's also going around the league itself. It may be that by the time the draft happens, he would be available much later than 12.

As far as drafting on OG, if it's a best-available-athlete type of situation, I wouldn't be opposed, but I don't see them seeking help at guard. Kuper, Myers, Hamilton (?), Holland... they're sitting fairly decent at those spots.

And, this is just my own quirk, I would rather see them target at least 2 DT's, maybe 3 if they can swing it without completely neglecting other areas of need.

Or so I'm told.

I would not be opposed to drafting
Phillips in the 1st, IF and only IF we traded down to the mid to late 20's in the first round.
