Mile High Report Official Mock Draft Sign-Up Thread - Get Your Teams Now!

Use this thread to sign-up for teams in the MHR Mock Draft.  While I will be the commish, you guys and gals are running it.  All I would recommend is try to keep it as realistic as possible.  It's cool if you are going to allow trades, but keep in mind what each team's GM is likely to do, not necessarily whot you would do.

I have asked 100 percent to come up with a logo, and when it is done I will add it to the MHR Mock Draft database.

I encourage you to create diaries at sites for other teams in order to get feedback from their fans.  Even if you are the person "responsible" for a team's pick, get feedback.  It is a great way to create cross-promotion and perhaps add participation to the site.

I know some of you have started calling for teams.  Please do so again in the comments section below.  Since EJRuiz777 came up with the idea he can either be the Broncos or be the head of the draft.  Like any good commish, I'll stay on the sidelines, offering input only when needed.  If EJ would prefer to head up the Broncos draft, I'll take a more active role but will still have all of you make the decisions.

Below are the teams needed.  I will update this post as teams are taken...

Since EJRuiz777 is going to have the broncos, I will make trouble for him.

Sweet.
I'll go ahead and represent our beloved Broncos.  I will also make myself available to TSG for any help he may need running this show.

How deep are we going to get here?  I'd suggest at least trying to get through the 2nd round, if you're all interested.

Hmm...
I must refrain.  Though screwing the Phins or Chiefs or Raiders would be fun, I can see we're keeping this serious, so I'll stay on the sidelines on this one.

guess I should take the Jets, unless anyone else really wants them.  After the Broncos I have no loyalties so I'm willing to take any unwanted team.

BTW - According to the NFLPA website, Marlon Mcree's contract is one year with a base salary of $1.5 million.  No word on signing or other bonuses (Sorry, not worth a diary, and no better place to put it)

I think this is the only option
since no one on these boards would touch a fader pick with a ten foot pole.  A Bronco trying to pick for the faders would be like a matter antimatter collision.  I'm not sure the universe could take it.

the Raiders, however just to pick a QB.  I think my pick will be very realistic to the situation, that is if the three teams before me pick the way it really ends up happening on draft day.

Nice Start!
So far, so good.  We're still 13 people short and it looks like everyone from our community that's interested has signed up.  I'd like to take this last moment to encourage the few remaining contributers that are holding out (I'm looking at you, HoosierTeacher, BroncoDude, etc.).

Don't worry about feeling behind the curve in draft knowledge; this is supposed to be a fun learning experience.  A quick browse of a site like DraftTek.com will give you a general feel for this upcoming draft and that shouldn't take long.  I hope we get the whole gang involved and, if necessary, we should reach out to the team websites for actual representatives for the missing GMs.

With apologies to all
I'm in the middle of switching over to a new job, and the training is pretty intense.

I've had to drive an hour and a half to purchase equipment, been called in from home at odd hours, been pepper sprayed, tasered, and beaten on.  Not only that, but I'm switching from midnights to days (which is a good thing, but playing havoc on my sleep schedule).

I can't commit to anything in advance and be able to know for sure I can make it.  However, once my training is complete my schedule will be MUCH better than it has been since I joined MHR.  So in that sense it is worth the trouble.

I'll take the Titans
It will be interesting to see how they can replace their recent FA losses and what can be done to gt players that compliment Vince Young's skills.  He has unusual skills, I don't like to see NFL QBs run, but that is how the Titans get 1st downs and TDs, so that risk just has to be accepted.

Ok, Ok
I'll join in but, I, like Hoosier am not very good with this draft knowledge. Thus, keeping it simple, so I have a good idea who is still there, I'll take the Rams @ #2.

Since Matt Millen doesn't seem to have that firm a grasp of this whole draft thing either.  All you have to remember is to take the top WR available with your first pick.  :)

Getting Help.
I posted a Diary over on the Baltimore Ravens site here on SBNation explain our little experiment and asking for volunteers.  If others could do the same for the remaining unrepresented teams, that would be great.  As soon as we fill the ranks, we can move towards getting this thing started.

No Problem.
Thank for juming in, BroncoDude.  Hre's wht I could dig up on the New Orleans Saints:

Their biggest needs appear to be CB, OLB and C.  They could also use help at DE, OT, OG and WR.  I know that's a pretty wide net, but it's a start.  It seems to me as though the best value for them in the first is a CB unless someone like Keith Rivers falls to them.  I guess that's a good place to start.  You can aways check out sits like Drafttek.com and NFLDraftCountdown to get a feel for how the draft might break down and for mor detailed scoutng reports espectively.  If  you have more secific questions, feel free to ask and I'm sure others will be happy to help me help you.  Cheers and welcome aboard!

Looking For More.
I just hit up the 49ers site on SBNation for more members.  They're currently doing a draft series and seem to have an active community, so hopefully a couple will venture over here and help us fill out.  With Rexx and BroncoDude in, we're just four teams shy (we can't forget the Colts, despite their lack of a first rounder in 2008) of being ready to go.  Let's do this!

by ejruiz on Mar 16, 2008 6:43 PM MDT reply actions   0 recs

I'm thinking we can start anytime
everybody is covered right up TB at #20.  We can keep recruiting as we go, and if worse comes to worse we can fill out the empty spots with someone doubling up when we get there...

What do y'all think?

I wish my sig was as cool as mdierks!

by Jeremy Bolander on Mar 16, 2008 8:32 PM MDT reply actions   0 recs

Sure.
I'm thinking we could go pretty slow, giving every team a one-hour window to chime in with their first round picks.  We'd set a time range that everyone's comfortable with (say 5PM to 10PM) and those that can't make their time slots could message TSG with a set of players, in order, that they'd take with their pick.  For instance, it would go something like this:

Day 1
5PM - 6PM: Miami (hercules rockefeller)
6PM - 7M: St. Louis (ramsfan)
7PM - 8PM: Atlanta (Zapparulez)
8PM - 9PM: Oakland (Sneaky275)
9PM - 10PM: Kansas City (jonnyr44)

Now, let's say jonnyr44 can't make his pick for KC at that time, so he'd send a personal message to TSG with a list of five plyers he'd be willing to take at his slot (at leat one of which will be guaranteed to be there) and TSG would choose the highest available one.

Day 2

  1. New York Jets (MattR)
  2. New England - from San Francisco - (TommyTSlice)
  3. Baltimore (Rexx)
  4. Cincinnati (ilikekitties)
  5. New Orleans (broncodude793)
Let's say this time Rexx cannot make his appointment, he'd only have to list three remaining available players in order and TSG would make the pick according to that info and we'd move on.

Now, the ranges (both per pick and the times of the day) should be up for debate, but I think those would be fine by most.  We'd cut the time in half for the second round and perhaps even further if we go beyond that.  I know some of u would like to take it all the way, but others might not be comfortable with that.  I say at least two rounds and no more than five.  Thoughts?

The Day 2 Chart Is Supposed To Read...

but Oakland, I say we have a vote and find the most troubled guy and the Raiders offer him a 10 year 100 mill deal with 40 mill in guarantees. It's the Davis way. (jk, well...kinda...)
Denial is a river in Oakland.

I'll take whatever is left if anything...
If not, can I be Mel Kiper?
I wish Woody Paige was our coach

How does Pewter
sound?  In a choice between TB and oak, I would think you might want oak.

And RE: the hair:  we WILL require samples and a photo of said 'do'.  Not just anyone can be Mel...

So when are we starting?
It is gonna probably be this weekend, huh?  I am driving down to Raleigh on Thursday and will have only occasional internet access.  I guess I can send a top 6 list to the Guru so he can make my pick, but I'd like a rough idea of when we are starting (I am still waiting for feedback from some Jets blogs)

Getting The Ball Rolling.
I'm going to hold firm in wanting only five first round picks per day.  I think this makes it a more leisurely an enjoyable experience for all.  I would also continue to request allowing a one-hour pick period to again ease any pressure and even allow for some emergency trade tlks if necessary. This would also be nice for the sake of drawing this out to chew up more "dead" time and even create a littl drama and debate every step of the way.  I think we should start this thing Friday.  During weekdays, we could go from 7-12PM EST (5-10PM MST) and maybe 3-8PM EST (1-6PM MST) over the weekend.  Thoughts?

Makes sense to me
And it actually works out with my schedule since I am the first pick of day 2.  So I should be able to log in before bed on Friday to see the first five picks and then submit the Jets pick.

Sounds good to me
How are we going to handle alerting everybody when it is there turn and whatnot?

I'm Really Not Sure.
I don't know how we could go about getting everyone's attention, but I'm sure TSG has his tools for that.

by ejruiz on Mar 19, 2008 7:18 PM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

I am down for that.
We are doing this for 4 rounds right?

by Tim Lynch on Mar 19, 2008 1:43 PM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

Sure.
I think we should do at least two rounds and then detrmine whether to go on or not.  Personally, I'd like to do four or maybe five, but we're a big crew with differing levels of interest.

I wonder if we should have just done each team as
a group.  You know, having a poll for each selection...allowing everyone to vote on who the team should take.

Maybe next time?
Soundslie a good idea, but that's a completely different animal.  If we sill have more time tokil, we should definitely go for it.

Question
in putting my team together I was wondering if we are allowed to trade through all rounds (i.e. trade with a 7th round pick to move up in a round we are doing)? Thoughts on this?

Another question
Are we supposed to draft the player we, personnaly, think the team SHOULD draft, or the one we think they WILL draft?

I mean, the latter will make i hard for the poor guy drafting for oak - i mean absolutely no-one has an idea of what DonaldTrump will come up with next time...

We are all supposed to make our best
educated guesses.  As for Oakland, I am penciling in Santa Claus for the first round.

that would be catestrophic
Santa Claus, the essence of good, and Al Davis, the preferred appearence of the devil, would annihilate in an explosion big enough to wipe out the west coast - all the way to acapulco.

Not too catestrophic though - getting rid of the bolts and the traitors at once...

In the first 3 rounds i se them taking the Beagle Boys - that should improve that O-line...

No home-town bias, but...
Check out how they are doing their mock draft over at www.arrowheadpride.com

Seems like a pretty good way to do it if I don't say so myself...

And the home of the...CHIEFS!!!
