DeAngelo Hall to Faders

It looks as though Crazy Al is bringing in another low-priced high character guy ;)  :

From a disinterested standpoint, it's getting pretty sad - shouldn't this year's personnell moves be compelling evidence in support of commiting the wack job to a nice peaceful padded room?

As a Bronco fan, I just love watching a division rival waste money like this.

Really?
I think getting a potential All-Pro for a second round pick is a fine move.

I'll give you the potential part, though as yet
unrealized.  My cynicism comes from the fact that he's expensive, and yet another "me-first" personality.  I just don't think that you can put too many bad apples into one locker room without having an adverse effect on team chemistry.

But maybe it's the Raider way to do this sort of thing. I'm all for rebellion when it translates to success. But as of late, it hasn't done very well for them.

I think this is a good move for oak
I like the pass defense value they get in the short term.  Financialy it looks like they are setting themselves up for short term success at the expense of long term salary cap hell.  But they have a two to three year window to try and make the on field success work.

Fine move...
They are in cap-hell, so they might as well go the hole 9 yards ('cause they allmost never get 10).

The secondary is actually looking good now... I would say, that they are closing in on Denvers - FAST! Wilson, Huff, Hall and Asomuggimatti-something-something...

How is Hall against the run?
Since this is a run first division featuring LT, LJ and the multi-headed Denver ZB runners, it seems like a large portion of Hall's suitability for the AFC West will be how he handles the run.  Also, how does he react to play action, a staple of the Denver offense?

I think Hall will be fine.
I don't consider him a good run stopper, but to have a good run stopper at CB is icing on the cake.  He is definetly one of the best CBs in the league, and if he can cover his man (and he is a coverage CB) he is doing his job.  I even wrote a story not too long ago about how we could utilize Hall ourselves (even with two elite CBs already on the team).

Hall has the instincts and the agility to react well to PA.  He is best used assigned to man coverage and to ignore the run unless blocked.  Let the safeties worry about PA.  The raider's have a good safety corps, and I would just keep Hall out of the running game altogether.  He can change run to pass quickly enough to be effective, but he plays to his own strength if he just stays with his man and doesn't bite on any run plays to begin with.

Even in the run heavy AFC West, Hall is an elite CB and a terrific pick-up by oak.  (He is also good in TE coverage, and oak would be wise to put him on one either Gates or Chambers, while double teaming the other player with a safety).

I think the Faders are going with the
reverse chemistry idea. Build up so much bad, it converts to good.

Exactly
Imagine team chemsitry as the thing that keeps the doorway to the division basement from opening.  Well, obviously the faders have had the door flung wide open for a long time, and they stumble down the basement stairs annually.

Normally they accomplish this with the high profile bad apples (Davis, the coach of the month, most recent receiver having worst year of career) falling down first and dragging the rest of the team with them.  But now, I think Davis is starting to get this figured out...

By loading up the team with tons of questionable character and free agent issues, they are effectively creating a situation where so many of them will be trying to get through the doorway at the same time that they will get stuck, thus preventing the rest of the team from going through.  Its the faders, so this theory just might work...

This reminds me
of The Simpsons episode where Mr. Burns goes to some health clinic, to get a check-up. When the check-up is finished Mr. Burns asks if he's healthy. The doctors proceeds to tell him the exact opposite. Mr. Burns has so many diseases, that they are all blocking each other from getting to his immune system to cause a degredation of his health.

I knew it! Al Davis is a fan of The Simpsons! It's makes so much sense now......
