With The 2nd Pick In The 2008 MHR Community Mock Draft...

The St. Louis Rams select....

JAKE LONG, OT - MICHIGAN

G.M. - Ramsfan -- Ever since the Rams's last good season in 2003, they have had offensive line issues. The Rams have one of the most dynamic backs in all of football in Steven Jackson but can't block for him. Orlando Pace and Alex Barron also have had their share of injury and lack of good play issues. Jake Long would slide in nicely with free agent signee Jacob Bell to form the new Rams offensive line for years to come.

Draft So Far --

#1 - Miami Dolphins - DE Chris Long, Virginia

The Atlanta Falcons, represented by ZappaRulez is up next.

Good pick.
Orlando Pace is 32 and--prior to his injury last season--showing now signs of wearing down.  He's currently got 4 years left on a $52.5 million contract.  $15 is paid out in bonuses, so they could walk away from that deal for just over $2.1 million if they chose.  Not a position of need, but definitely a good choice given how much a 2nd rounder costs.

Pace.
The moment Orlando went down last season, I knew the Rams were done.  That said, getting his heir in place and starting him off on the opposite side is a very nice move.  You have to protect Bulger and open up holes for Jackson.  The rams are gonna be much better in 2008 if they can stay reasonably healthy.
