The Search Continues....Seahawks Ink Olindo Mare
Back to the drawing board. The Broncos' hope of replacing Jason Elam with a proven veteran to a hit today when former Dolphin and Saint kicker Olindo Mare signed with the Seattle Seahawks on a 2 year deal worth $3.5 million. Like the Broncos, the Seahawks also watched a Pro Bowl kicker leave town when Josh Brown replaced Jeff Wilkins in St. Louis.
While this is a bit of a disappointment, there was no way the Broncos were going to offer Mare a contract worth more than they offered Elam. The kids have to play sometime, time to see what Prater is made of....

Draft a kicker?
Rocky Long at UNM never uses scholarships on K. The Lobos always have walk-ons make the team as K. Seems to work. It always seems that NFL teams can find kickers in mid-season. Elam was a 3rd round pick. You won't get another Elam in the 6th or 7th this year anyway. Also, don't forget the thing about the KO & Punt team where the guy kicking must also run a lane and tackle or get blocked while running a lane. That's why NFL teams usually have a K, a P who KO and a LS. That's three guys for the kicking game, leaving 25 for O & 25 for D. Here come kick-o-rama! It's exciting! No more going to the bathroom during XP/FGA!
