Raiders Sign Javon Walker; Al Davis Proves He Really Is Senile
Enough about Brett Favre. Let's talk about player actually playing in the NFL, especially those with histories in Denver.
Javon Walker is about to get paid....BIG TIME!! The Raiders have reportedly agreed to a deal with Walker, a deal to the tune of 6 years/$55 million with $16 million guaranteed. The first three years of the deal amount to $27 million. That is Randy Moss-type money, with more money locked in to boot. Two words....What the hell is the walking corpse thinking??? Don't trust me, read for yourself --
The terms of the deal call for Walker to receive a six-year, $55 million contract that includes more than $16 million in guarantees and pays him roughly $27 million over the first three years of the deal.
Soon after being released, at least a third of the league reached out to the six-year veteran.
Injuries limited Walker to eight games last season and he finished with 26 catches for 287 yards and no touchdowns.
He started the season with two 100-yard games before missing two months following a third knee operation.
Beginning his career with the Packers, Walker played two seasons in Denver. He had 69 catches for 1,084 yards and eight TDs the first season. But the offseason was punctuated by tragedy. Involved in a drive-by shooting soon after the season ended, teammate Darrent Williams died in Walker's arms.
I thought the Tommy Kelly and Gibril Wilson deals were bad, but this one take the whole freakin's cake....Not to mention they signed former 49'er speed bump Kwame Harris.
At least we can count on the raiders being irrelevant for the next 4 or 5 years....

Going to Oakland?
"I play to enjoy myself, some people take this the wrong way, but winning a championship is not what I base everything on. I was given an opportunity to play basketball, travel around and have fun doing it and that's what I want to do. I wouldn't take being unhappy and not being myself and winning.
I would rather enjoy myself with 18,000-20,000 people watching the game and the people sending fan mail and those things and be happy...I didn't come here to play the point guard, that's just it. I came here to run the wing, just like he was running the other wing. I was asked to sacrifice for the team to win and for everybody, I guess, get paid. That is what was told to me and I wasn't happy with that."
I actually think Walker was pissed by Shanahan's statement's about him possibly needing microfracture in a couple years and wants the chance to stick it back in Denver's face. And it helped that Oakland was willing to completely overpay. Didn't Javon make some kind of statement about how his need to be a #1 WR was being overblown and that people would be surprised by where he ended up? Well, I am surprised. But not for the reason he meant.
Wow...
Walker has missed most of two of his last three seasons, and the raiders are giving him a longer contract with more guaranteed than Randy freaking Moss got.
It's mind boggling.

Kwame Harris
Next offensive line target - Anthony Clement who was just released by the Jets after they signed every other free agent OL out there. He has been with the team as a backup briefly and wont demand/command much money.
3 years
He's actually getting paid $27 million over the first three years.
$27 million over three years is what Randy Moss got from NE, only his contract doesn't go on for another 3 years and $28 million, nor does it have as much guaranteed (only $15 million).

Ooooohhh, I get it...
uh, uh, uh,
BWAAAAAHAAAAHAAAA!!!
uhh, uhh, OK....
So, Matt, tell me more about this Clement. I really like the young, unproven and hungry criteria the Broncos are using for FA's this year.
I'm almost happy
I've always thought Walker was a bad pickup in the back of my mind... We let go af Lelie because he wants more balls (not that he could handle more...) and pick up a guy who doesn't want anything but money?
I'd perfer the best of both of those.
Damn!
I am glad he is in Oakland. He will probably burn us twice a year now(when healthy), but I take comfort knowing that Oakland's salary cap will be F%&%ed for years to come. Spent on risky, selfish players like Russell and Walker.
If Al Davis keeps spending money like this he will 5 super rich players and 47 scrubs playing on his team. lmao
Twice a year... for how long?

Wow, I want Javon's Agent.
A 100% healthy Walker would deserve that deal ... but dude can't pass a physical.
(inhales)
(gasp)
hahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahah!
That is a lot of money for a broken player. Sheesh.
That will make for some enjoyable games next year.
Two sides to this
On the other hand, if he stays injury free, I still believe that Walker is a credible threat on the field and we would be wise to remember how good he was for us in '06.
That's what we all feared from way back when...
But you can trust oakland to make dump business moves. It would still be a dump move even if this whole thing works out for them.
My only hope is that the "Nation" would ruin whatever good was left in the man.
Let the failed Nation have him
The Broncos don't need that type of person. Let the ugly failed nation have him.
