With the 19th Pick In The MHR Mock NFL Draft....

The Kansas City Chiefs, managed by jonnyr44, select....

BRANDEN ALBERT, OG - VIRGINIA

G.M. - jonnyr44 -- A dream scenario for Kansas City has occurred. W/ no one available at #5 who they wanted to pay the money, trading down and picking up Lito Sheppard and an add'l 5th round pick was great. Had KC not traded down, I very well might have selected Albert at #5, only now we get to pay him like a late teen pick, and not top 5. Holy hell, this is how you work the draft people. Instead of getting one player at #5 and paying him boatloads of money, we'd get Lito Sheppard as CB and KR/PR, a 5th rounder, and Albert and it'll probably be cheaper to pay those 3 players than it would to pay Vernon Gholston, who was selected 5th in our mock draft.

Why Albert? He can play anywhere on the line. at 6'5'' 310 pounds, he played G in college but could project as a LT. His versatility makes him more desirable than Otah from Pitt. He'll either be a great G or a very good tackle, and KC just has tons of holes on the line. Instant starter, plug him in, I'll see ya'll again at the beginning of round 2.

The Draft So Far --

#1 - Miami Dolphins - DE Chris Long, Virginia
#2 - St. Louis Rams - OT Jake Long, Michigan
#3 - Atlanta Falcons - DT Glen Dorsey, LSU
#4 - Oakland Raiders - RB Darren McFadden, Arkansas
#5 - Philadelphia Eagles(via Trade w/ K.C. Chiefs) - DE Vernon Gholston, Ohio St.
#6 - New York Jets - DB Leodis McKelvin, Troy St.
#7 - New England Patriots - CB Dominique Rogers-Cromartie, Tennessee State
#8 - Baltimore Ravens - QB Matt Ryan, Boston College
#9 - Cincinnati Bengals - DT Sedrick Ellis, USC
#10 - New Orleans Saints - CB Mike Jenkins, USF
#11 - Buffalo Bills - WR Malcolm Kelly, Oklahoma
#12 - Minnesota Vikings(via trade with Denver) - DE Derrick Harvey, Florida
#13 - Carolina Panthers - OT Ryan Clady, Boise St.
#14 - Chicago Bears - RB Rashard Mendenhall, Illinois
#15 - Tampa Bay Buccaneers(via Trade w/ Detroit) - LB Keith Rivers, USC
#16 - Arizona Cardinals - DE/LB Quentin Groves, Auburn
#17 - Denver Broncos - OT Chris Williams, Vanderbilt
#18 - Houston Texans - CB Aqib Talib, Kansas
#19 - Kansas City Chiefs - OG Branden Albert, Virginia

The Next 4 Picks --

#20 - Detroit Lions (7-9) -- (tbell61)
#21 - Washington (9-7) -- (CptChaosSidekick)
#22 - Dallas (from Cleveland) (10-6) -- (jlwyatt6767)
#23 - Pittsburgh (10-6) -- (PABroncoFan)

Excellent Pick
I hate to see it, but I think KC got a real bargain in Albert. I saw one evaluation that placed him as the eighth best available selection, and the Chiefs can use a lineman. To get him this low was a good deal for KC.

This is the steal of steals
well played jonny, this is as Polian-esque.

Which of course means king-carl has 0% chance of making it happen...

I wish my sig was as cool as mdierks!

Cat-bird Seat.
No matter what, the Chiefs are in prime position to trade down.  At #5, You could see either Darren McFadden, one of the top DE or DT, the top CB and a whole host of other interesting picks that may compell any numbe ofteams to trade up.  I've read that they're leaning toward Otah over Clady and Albert (nice pick, johnnyr) looks like a rel possibility as well,so they can definitely trade down considerably and sill grab one of their top targets.  This makes too much sense not to happen.

too much sense
is why it probably will not happen

Say What You Want, But...
The Chiefs have drafted well early these last couple of years.  Tamba Hali, Bernard Pollard and Dwayne Bowe are all solid performers already.  I don't see why a trade down would be above their heads, especially when they'll have multiple teams knocking down thir door to get a deal done.  You don't think the 'Boys will offer #22, #29 and a player for that pick if Run DMc is still available?  How about the Saints or Bills looking to secure one of the top two CB?  Any number of teams could come looking for either of the top DEs if they manage to sneak out of th top four... it's just too easy for them to make something happen here.

Beauty!
Hey this Ben from the chiefs website, just had to drop by and say that whoever pulled this off needs to come to the chiefs asap. I will pay your ticket. As probable as it seems that the chiefs will trade down like this, it won't happen unfortunatly. Why? Because carl peterson is not an exciting person by any means, and this is far to thrilling for him (not to mention hermy) to do. However, I just HAD to say nice picks!

And just a warning...
Should the chiefs do the unthinkable and draft dorsey, I dare cutler to look to the right for more than a second, because allen and dorsey will be there in less, not to mention tamba on the other side! Hah sorry I had to put that in to maintain a solid chief-head rep.

Albert would have made a good Titan
Benji Olson retired and I was considering getting Albert as a replacement.  Oh well, drafting at #24 is just a maddening waiting game, definitely not a good spot for getting the #1 WR or even the #1 Guard.

The Guy Who Made the Pick
Good to hear from people they think I did a good job.

Ben, I'm a life-long Chiefs fan. I've been writing Lamar, and now Clarke, forever saying what a tool Carl is and how what he and Dick did in the 99-2000 screwed us for a decade.

Trading down is going to be the best option for the Chiefs. Will they? No. Why? B/C Carl Peterson is the single biggest inept moron left of the Mississippi.

If ya'll thought that was good, wait 'till you see what I have stored at the top of the 2nd round. Ha ha ha ha ha!!!
