Broncos Waive DT Antwon Burton

Another mediocre defensive lineman is shown the door.

The Denver Broncos on Monday waived defensive tackle Antwon Burton, Head Coach Mike Shanahan announced.

Burton, a third-year player, saw time in seven career games for the Broncos after joining the club as a college free agent from Temple University on May 3, 2006.

Not big news, but another example of the Broncos releasing a player former DC was high on.

I believe the roster...

was full. This release is paving the way for one of the recent visitors to get a contract.

There are any roster limitations right now. Once We get to training camp they have to be at a certain number(86??) but unlike baseball that has a 40-man protected roster all year round I think football teams can sign anyone they want right now...

Not true.

I believe that there is a 80 man roster limit for the whole reloading-season... From the end of Feb all way to training camp and all.

definitely at 80 right now. I was emailing MattR a while back saying "You know, coincidentally we are at 80 people right now. Spooky huh?"

He was like, "Yeah styg, there is a reason for that..." I'm pretty sure his chart has all 80 current players, we just need to swap Burton for Parker.
I was way off on my first guess for players who would be cut, but I give myself a mulligan, since I thought the first player cut would be to make room for a kicker! :)

Soon enough.

I think anyone that is released from now until

draft day is a sign of someone else being signed. It may be an unintended consequence for Shanny, but he is letting us know before its announced that the Broncos are signing another FA. ;) I like having a full roster during the reloading season. lol

I don't think there ever was an 86 as such. The number has been 80 all along, but teams could get exemptions for NFL Europe players and we usually had five or six. Since there is no more NFLE, no more 86.

Styg might be an expert on 86 from his days at the Elbow room in Dutch.

Nice. I still have a whole bag of free drink chips that I saved, and a couple of decks of the ill fated "Crabber Trading Cards." I suppose they are all collector's items now, sigh...

The legend was you got the chips for winning fights (or starting fights, not sure about that), but I can testify that that isn't always the case. There are lots of ways to get free drinks. ;)

I will say that I only rang the bell ONE time. It cost me $1200 and I never rang it again.

I wouldn't even stand by it...

80 is the correct number....

All Europa designations were exemptions. This year teams are going to have to adjust. Zap is correct. Every time we see a player released it will be a sign of a new player about to be signed. I'm sure Parker agreed to terms before this move took place. In my opinion, this is addition by subtraction. I am not a Parker fan, but I was even less of a Burton fan.

My big question is will we now make the trade for D-Rob official? DT is a position of weakness and I can't see Shanny releasing Burton without the contingency plan in place.
