Around SBN: Kentucky Football: Tee Martin Reportedly Leaving for USC

I Have a Dream (Mock).

As the date draws nigh, we are all getting a better idea of what we want our Broncos to accomplish in the draft.  I share my hopes below the fold.  NOTE: they're basically identical to what I've stated before, so there should be no real surprises, but still...

Star-divide

  • Swap our 1st round pick with Minnesota or Detroit to pick up a high third rounder.
  • Trade single 5th and 7th round picks to the Jets for DT Dewayne Robertson.
Round 1 - Chris Williams, OT, Vanderbilt
Round 2 - DT (Pat Sims of Auburn or Trevor Laws of Notre Dame)
Round 3 - Steve Justice, OC, Wake Forrest
Round 4A - Dexter Jackson, WR/KR, Appalachian State
Round 4B - Durant Brooks, P, Georgia Tech
Round 5 - LB (Ezra Butler of Nevada or Jordan Dizon of Colorado)
Round 6 - Taylor Mehlaff, K, Wisconsin
Round 7 - S or ILB (beats me...)

The goals achieved with this haul are to fortify the lines and rebuild the special teams.  I think it's realistic, need-oriented and value-based.  Do you agree with that assesment?  What do you think about the specific prospects mentioned and the overarching strategy?  What are your hopes for this draft and what do you think the Broncos are actually thinking of doing?  I look forward to your comments and hopefully this thread can be a "rest stop" of sorts where we all get our thoughts together after a couple of weeks of information gathering and debate.  Cheers!

that sounds just about
perfect to me... I'm not sure I agree with the 1st round OL... I have too much faith in Shanny's ability to find gems late to want to seemingly waste money early.  Everything else looks awesome to me as far as I know, and I think thise trades could be possible as well.

Having Robertson, Sims/Laws, and Thomas in the middle of the line in rotation would be pretty sweet sounding to me.  Especially if we keep Peterson or Mallard in there also.

How solid are you
on wanting LB with #5?

Because there are some run stopping DTs available there.

Not Terribly.
Who do you have in mind?  I'm pretty solid on almost everything else, but I could be flexible with the 5th.

If you can stomach it
Dykes and Harrison should be there.  Both have the enigmatic "sleeper" tag.

I forgot
to mention who would be good:

Hayden
Guion (could be had later in a restructured mock.  Latest would be our 6th rounder.

Also, if you ever get a chance to look at K Coutou, let me know what you think.

Run Stop
If we don't do a better job of stopping the run than we did last year we just might have a 6,7,or 8 win season as you stated in the other diary.

You know.
I love your mock, but I would go with Marcus Monk over Jackson at WR in the 4th
Orange County is hot. Really! Haven't you seen the weather report?

Nice job!
Agree with Styg; get another DT (perhaps in the fifth).

Also, I might skip the OC in the third.  We have Nalen, and Wiegmann is a very capable back-up.  We'll need an OC soon, but I think we can get it next year.  I'd like another WR or perhaps an OG here.  OC is still a solid choice.

Maybe trade down the first again, but I'm not very strong on that either.

I very much like the Brooks pick.

Overall I would be pretty happy to see the draft work out as you did it.  Again, good job!

Skipping center
what if I told you that we could put Nalen into a special "time-tube" and send him back in time and replace him in our age with the original Tom Nalen...

...would you do it?

I'll bite
Ok, we get a young Tom Nalen in '08.  Is there someone you have in mind?  Or is there another parallel I'm missing?

Steve Justice
was created by culling DNA from Tom Nalens whiskers.  He is a CLONE of Nalen.

I'd be pretty happy
if it worked out this way. My ideal scenario is getting completely out of the 1st round (for a couple of Atlanta's 2nds & a 4th), but this would satisfy me.
