For the Record
- I do not do that kind of stuff anymore. I fished for about 7 years, and did my last contract about 2 years ago. I still live in Alaska and I still fish, but it is for personal use, and in Southeast Alaska, which is MUCH different from the Bering Sea. I live on the Inside Passage, which is a very protected waterway.
- More critical, is to alert you to the fact that there are MANY types and ways to fish up north, and that King Crab is only one, though it is the heavily romanticized famous one. Though I can talk about king crab all day, and I personally know the guys on the show, crab fishing is NOT the field I was in. The boat I was on specialized in Otter Trawl, which is a type of net fishing. Our main targets were Cod, Pollock/whiting, hake, and Salmon. But it is still a pretty small world up in Dutch, and it is still the same boats on the same ocean.
