With The 26th Pick In The 2008 MHR Community Mock Draft...
WE HAVE A TRADE!!!
The Jacksonville Jaguars, represented by MHR Favorite Claaaaas has made a trade with Jon Tollerud and the Minnesota Vikings. The details are below --
Minnesota Gets - #26 Overall
Jacksonville Gets - #47, #113, #142 and #173
Claaaaas breaks it down this way - Our board was hit hard by the last couple of picks, so i don't see value enough among the currently available players. Receivers has to be extremely good for us to take him as we have invested a lot of money on the position in reloadingseason (Williamson, Porter). I don't see any pass rusher-value or corner value(Merling's injury-problems scare us a bit). DT is also a need (departure of Stroud), but i have 3 on my board, and at least one of the three will be available when we pick again.
With the 26th Pick, the Minnesota Vikings and Jon Tollerud select....
KENNY PHILLIPS, S - MIAMI Vikings' GM - Jon Tollerud -- The Minnesota Vikings were willing to take this chance to trade up and grab a well rounded player. We have Darren Sharper and Williams Starting at safety with two young guys here but Sharper is not getting any younger and the depth we have here is just that. Depth! We Select Kenny Phillips and will start from day one prepping him to take the place of Sharper when he retires in the next few seasons. You may criticize our trade of a handful of picks to move up but we have three real areas of concern, Safety, Defensive End and Quarterback. Addressing #1 (DE) earlier we now fix our #2 (Safety) and can focus on depth because we signed Frerotte and thus secured our belief in Tarvaris Jackson for at least one more season.

If someone told me
4 extra picks will ensure you two of the best defensive players in positions of need at the beginning of this mock I would have thought you were crazy. I guess thats why its a mock!

lol yes, that's why it's a mock
Mocks with friends are always fun to do…especially ones involving trades. If the Vikes had THIS kind of a draft on draft day…I don’t know what I’d do. Nice work!

I like to think the wheeling and dealing will lead to good results.
It was a bit of a sacrafice but the vikings really cant afford to wait for the draft next year on teh off chance that Sharper will stay one mroe season. The otehr thought here was Chad Henne. It would be fun to “Plummer-ize” Taravis but after signing Frerotte It woudl be stupid to spend a high round pick on a guy who will be third or fourth on the chart because Gus-Gus is going to be the back up that Ramsey is here. I still Wish Jake woudl have stayed in back up for Cutler but sometimes its just time to go.

However,
The Udeze news about the illness is good for the Vikings. I hope wish him and his family the best. That’s where that first round pick you pulled off was a success. You probably could’ve ended up with Merling at the least, had you waited, and instead of taking the risky “wait and see” approach, you nabbed Harvey. I only wish it was that easy and everyone was that nice in the NFL as we are at this community when doing a Mock.

As a Jaguars fan...
I can tell you without doubt that if Merling is available, the Jaguars would bite. (No pun intended, I swear).
That said, getting a whole mess of picks would be seriously considered, though probably for a re-package toward the top of the 2nd.
Good trade though, certainly a bunch of value.

It's nice
to see that I completely screwed up the first overall pick.

No worries
Look at what I did! Minnesota just traded everything I did away for Allen instead of two first round picks. I was gongi to try and improve through depth!

Yeah, but
to get the first pick wrong? Just goes to show that I have no clue as to what I’m talking about.

It'd be worse
to have gotten the first pick wrong yesterday. It’s just a mock draft…I don’t even put too much stock in it anyway. I got lucky when I went with Jake Long. There were really four players the Fins could’ve gone with here (maybe three at the least).
