Vikings lock up Jared Allen
Looks like Denver's AFC rival will be losing its top D-End after all. Could this change what Minnesota decides to do in the draft? You bet it could.
The Kansas Chiefs have agreed to trade Pro Bowl defensive end Jared Allen to the Minnseota Vikings, reports NFL Network's Adam Schefter.
The Chiefs will receive Minnesota's first- (17th overall) and both of its third-round picks (73rd and 82nd) as compensation. Kansas City has been looking to acquire additional draft picks in an attempt to speed up coach Herm Edwards' rebuilding project for a team that lost its last nine games in 2007 and finished 4-12.
The Vikings also agreed on a new contract with Allen, which will be finalized Wednesday. Allen flew to Minnesota on Tuesday night in anticipation of Wednesday's events.

Very Interested...
To see what K.C. does with #73, since that is the Broncos’ 3rd round pick, traded away in order to move up for Marcus Thomas….

Another way to look at it
While we directly gave up the #73 this year to trade up for Marcus Thomas in the fourth round last year, the reason we had to make that trade was that we had traded our third rounder in 2006 to move up and grab Jarvis Moss. Either way, it is a shame it ended up in the hands of an AFC West opponent.

Good move for KC
While giving up one of their better players, the draft picks they got in compensation will help a struggling team in rebuilding mode. Short term loss for KC, but a very good move medium to long term.

You are assuming they will draft wisely
I am counting on Carl Peterson and Herm Edwards to screw up the picks :)

That's a reasonable assumption
The fault with bad picks would be at the feet of those making the bad picks. Giving themselves the improved opportunity to get good picks (regardless of how they are handled) is still a good move, at least as I see it.
But yes, Carl and Herm will very likely will screw up.

You bet...
now they don’t have to spend a top-10 pick on Jeff Otah or another OT that they’re looking at, and can focus on a DE or DT at pick five, and use the 17th selection for that tackle who they wouldn’t have to pay as much.

Too much
Why do the Vikings do stuff like this? They have too many needs to spend 3 day 1 players on 1 guy. Stoopid.
Or so I'm told.
