ESPN guys

are in full analysis mode regarding Detroit’s philosophical change, and I agree with it. If I wasn’t still being rather lazy, I’d throw in my two cents lol.

As I was yesterday

I am on full Dan Connor watch. I do not see Denver moving to take him, so it’s just interesting to see who snags him.

I love the kid to death

I’d love to see him in Denver, but looking at how they handled themselves yesterday, unless they LOVE someone, I think they continue to let the draft come to them, and they just snag the top guy on the board and go on.

Good morning fellow Draftniks!

How will our AFC West rivals do? I think KC has 3 picks in the third, raiders none, not sure about SD.

KC.

The Chiefs have done a great job so far…

KC

looking for 6 starter from the draft, grabbed 3 yesterday, and have NINE picks today to find the other 3. They won’t resolve their issues all at the same time, but they’ve done a fantastic job infusing talented, young guys. They’re starting to make me nervous. I’ll be waiting for them to make a pick that causes me to say “THERE is the Chiefs I know!”

They will

and like my theory yesterday suggests, he will go a long way towards helping their new ten man defense. Jinx mode is on.

INnnnnnnnteresting.

There goes the one fullback I like, and he’s headed to San Diego, who traded with NE to get him.

Hester 2 SD

He has a reputation for toughness and comes from a championship winning team. Too bad SD got him.

by Arctic Bronco on Apr 27, 2008 8:29 AM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

The problem is

when does he see the field with SD? Does he fill the Michael Turner role, or does Darren Sproles step up and add the mighty to his mite?

Maybe

they just like some of these other guys more? I really don’t see it, either. I could see Buffalo snagging him and teaming him with Poz again.

by SlamDunkTheFunk on Apr 27, 2008 8:28 AM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yes, yes I did.

And it ought to continue. At this point, he’s GREAT value and most teams won’t turn down an excellent linebacker, especially KC right here.

I started feeling a LOT better

about him yesterday when I saw him coming in and running reverses, stretching the field, and of course returning kicks.

KC grabs Jamaal Charles

with our old pick. With Larry Johnson constantly whining, a backup isn’t bad for them. I still like the pick because it won’t do much.

by SlamDunkTheFunk on Apr 27, 2008 8:34 AM MDT reply actions   0 recs

Great Pick.

They need a guy that can spell him some and, if he pans out, he can be a starter. RB shelf-life in the NFL is short and LJ has been overused. Vert smart pick.

I'd like Denver to bundle and move up, or...

trade some picks for higher picks next year. But everyone has some good names too.

I’m less about “who” than “what”. I really want a DT or two, maybe one more OL, a back-up at MLB, or a RB.

I think Denver is going best available at this point though.

I also have Jacob Tamme later in the draft if he’s available. I know TE isn’t a need, but the guy was so underrated at Kentucky.

I want a TE

Graham has 6 years of wear & tear, Nate Jackson from tiny Menlo State has 5 years, Mustard is another “feel good” story but who will be there 2-3 years from now when we should be making a deep run in the playoffs?

Draft a project to challenge either Jackson or Mustard, 2-3 years of development while Graham wears down and Scheff learns to block sounds like a good fit.

by Arctic Bronco on Apr 27, 2008 8:41 AM MDT reply actions   0 recs

hahaha

It’s funny you post this. In response to HT, I added Jacob Tamme to my list. Does he count as a project?

by SlamDunkTheFunk on Apr 27, 2008 8:42 AM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

Well...

We have Scheff for a long time. Graham won’t be around forever, but he’s good for now. Mustard and Jackson are reasonable at #2 (after Graham) or in back-up roles. Let’s snag a TE next year when we can do better, in my opinion.

Without Graham we are an excellent one TE (standard) team because we have Scheff. If we are going to gun for 2-TE or Magic 3 we will need a good one next year. But I don’t think much is left at TE this year.

Having Dallas

move up and grab Mike Jenkins at 25 was a big letdown that led to them reaching for the OT from VT. Unfortunate, no doubt.

But why didn’t they stay at 18 and take Mendenhall?

Like many teams in the league, they just don’t want to invest that pick on a RB

Really?

No one took a WR in the first, and there were tons of RB or OL picks. Looks like a major shift to the run game to me (and yet another sign of the progression towards TEs in the long term).

That picture was taken Thanksgiving 07

I had to go to Fairbanks, AK. My kids used their college education at UAF to prove that trees can stop human bodies on sleds, so I spent the Thanksgiving vacation with them. My daughter made steak at the dorm for a memorable Thanksgiving dinner.

I think...

....of HOU as our “little brothers” because of all of the staff we sent down there (not to mention Mike’s son). I also look at TENN as friends of the Broncos, since we trade scouting reports on college players and opposing teams (Mike and Jeff Fisher are best friends). I feel bad TENN and HOU are having such a rough time. It would be nice if they could gain soe strength and knock of the Colts in the AFC South.

At least we havent traded away any of next year's picks...

oh wait, we did! :( Shanny better play DRob less than 65% of the time next year!

by Tim Lynch on Apr 27, 2008 9:28 AM MDT reply actions   0 recs

No worries.

Even if DRob is a beast, I see him rotating a lot. No way he gets 65%. NYJs might get a 7th, or nothing at all. (And here, for the first time ever, I use the phrase…) You heard it here first. Take it to the bank. The check is cashed.

I will eat my hat

if D-Rob hits 65% (even though he has played more than that in every year for the Jets). Denver rotates DL too much.

by MattR on Apr 27, 2008 9:34 AM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

I like

him to get 64 percent of the snaps, unless he’s just dominating.

by SlamDunkTheFunk on Apr 27, 2008 9:29 AM MDT reply actions   0 recs

no pick to the jets

and Doom was the only Denver DL to play 65% of snaps last year (and that was because we had so many DE injuries).

by MattR on Apr 27, 2008 9:30 AM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

At the same time

our DTs were so gawd awful that we had to keep shuffling them and some of the early season players weren’t there later on =p

A promise from the MHR University...

The academic departments of Defense, Stats, Defensive Coaching, DT strategic concepts, and Defensive Line Theory and Practice all assure me that no matter how good DRob is, there is no way it is reasonably possible for DRob to play 65% of the time.

Mark my words.

He would have been worth a 4th round flyer for us, oh well..

by Arctic Bronco on Apr 27, 2008 9:46 AM MDT reply actions   0 recs

Why would OC be such a bad pick for DEN?

We have Nalen, but he’s an injury risk (he’ll retire at te end of the season anyway). His back-up (Weigmann) is a great back-up, but nearing retirement too.

I think OC makes a lot of sense.

Frankly, kicker or punter don’t sound so bad either (for competition in camp). Brooks looks good at punter.

If it's Steve Justice

it would be a fantastic pick. And Coutu is a guy I really love in the fourth or fifth. I wasn’t kidding. It was taken as a joke, but it’s been a draft lacking sexy picks, and I think that will continue.

I have kind of an off topic Idea

Is anyone interested in scouting college players for Denver for next years offseason? My think is I was not too much aware of our WR pick and therefore was a bit more dissapointed than I should have been. My thought is ( I am gonna post a fan post about this tonight) is that maybe one or two guys take each big conference and break down each weeks best and then in the next reloading season we pull together the guys who would fit the Denver System? Anyone interested?

I'm in.

I watch a ton of college football for this reason. I scout as many guys as I can. The draft is my big thing in all of sports, haha.

by SlamDunkTheFunk on Apr 27, 2008 9:50 AM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

Jump on it!

In fairness though, quite a few guys ran around the prospects for MHR and Royal was a shck to us all (though he looks like a terrific pick in hindsight). I didn’t see ANY site that had him on the radar for Denver.

Im not dissing

on the guys who did the prospects I didnt have him on my radar either so no disrespect to the guys who worked hard. My thought is if we do this we will not be as shocked and we will already have a little background info on certain guys.

Davis to the Hall!

by Jon Tollerud on Apr 27, 2008 9:54 AM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

Oh no...

I didn’t take it that way. I’m saying that I don’t think anyone here or anyone else had much on Royal because he was such a sleeper pick. Denver’s staff did their homework, and after the pick we went back and checked him out and LO and BEHOLD he looked great.

I encourage you and Slam to do whatever you can next year too. I’m not a college scout or draft expert by any stretch, and confine myself to on field issues for the most part.

It’s all good! : )

Maybe being from Missouri St. gives KC a home state scouting advantage. Lindys’ says he is willing to go over the middle and take a hit and can be physical blocking CBs. Sounds like a keeper.
