you and me both

mayock liked the pick, but i don’t see a need except for playing on specials, which is fine, but at this spot??? i want another big and young DT to compete with our current boys.

I wish Woody Paige was our coach!

I was out for a while

I know we got a center in Lichtensteiger, but is there any chance we get the guy from Wake Forest? I really wanted him. Or, better yet, could someone convince me this guy is an even better choice?

exactly

and the big guy from A&M can’t last much longer. Special teams aren’t going to matter if we can’t stop the run again.

I've defended our draft so far

I defended the Eddie Royal pick to many friends last night even though it was unpopular at the spot we picked him, but this is ridiculous! CB is not a position of need, and I understand that we need special teamers but we need DT’s in the worst possible way! I liked the first pick in this 4th round getting the C from Bowling Green, but I really can’t defend this pick. This defies all logic.

please draft...

a defender who will see the field in the next two years. maybe someone who can help us stop the run. please.

picks tell me three things...

1) Broncos are totally in the tank for DRob and believe he will be an impact player this year
2) Broncos believe their guys (Moss/Crowder/Thomas) will come into their own this year.
3) Shanny let Bronco Billy make our picks! http://www.bangcartoon.com/2005/broncobilly.htm

The impending loss of Foxworth

I think this Williams pick is about planning ahead for the likely loss of Foxworth next year. I expect that another team is going to pay him more than the Broncos can/will after this season. With Bailey and Bly around, the best he’ll ever do in Denver is be the nickelback, but other teams will project him as a starter for them.

Williams is local to me (Kent is 40 miles SE of Cleveland) and I’ve actually heard him compared to Darrent Williams before, for his toughness and sure tackling in spite of being shorter than 5-9. He was also Kent’s special teams player of the year in 2006, according to his Scouts, Inc. bio on ESPN. He also has experience returning kicks and punts. I like this pick.

so now we have multiple options at PR/KR?

well one thing is for sure, there will be plenty of competition at camp this year. that’s a good thing

This is the first pick I can't justify.

Williams is no doubt a solid STs guy, but his scouting report sounds like he is a zone, not man, kind of player. His ability to jack (no pun) straight ahead and jam sound good, as does his (again) forward ability in run stopping. Excellent traits for a zone or STs coverage guy. While he has quick turning hips, his pursuit is poor if a receiver gets past him (despite his speed). He has zone written all over him.

And that’s not a bad thing, unless you are in a man system like Denver. He would be awful in the slot against the TE types in the AFC West. I’m a huge advocate for DBs, but this kid isn’t a fit (even at back-up). I really believe he’s a STs target for us.

The other reason I don’t like this pick is need. The kid isn’t good enough to be “best available”, but he isn’t a need either (if you believe that DT is pressing). As I said before the fourth round rolled around, we gave DRob a five year contract for a reason. Mike is sold on the guy. He better be the real deal, or we won’t have a DLine to hod up our otherwise good defense again this year.

On the other hand, if DRob works out then watch out! Either way, Williams won’t have any impact on defense this year or next. (Next year is projected to be deep at DBs, and that is where we should hunt for another SAF and one or two CBs). I vote for Williams to hit the practice squad in ‘08.

its too early

To write him off or think the pick is truly that bad. WHo knows. Maybe this kid can be versitle. It could be also that Denver is maybe thinking of going away from Bly. (who I have never liked, takes too many chances and gets beat to muc for me). I think time will tell. But drafting him ithe 4th is not really a reach. Plus with getting Robertson I feel that the Broncos view DT and not as pressing as it was. Thomas if he stays out of troublke will be a stud and with him and DRob together and if they produce could be a real good pair of DT’s

This pick

at least on the surface, sucked.

I have no other input.
