AZ State
Typical Denver type pick. North/South runner with a one-cut mentality. Has good potential in terms of blitz pickup. Is slower than every LB we have and as injury concerns.
As in, you don’t wanna know who he is.

Torain "runs hard between the tackles" PFW
Sounds like another Mike Bell type, which is probably a good thing, but CAN HE STOP THE RUN????
He missed the end of last season, having
surgery in October after a Lisfranc injury.

First & Second Picks = A
Third Pick = C
Fourth Pick = D
Fifth Pick = F
What is going on with Shanny today? I still am holding out hope for Xavier Omon
From a preason Yahoo article on senior RBs
Ryan Torian, Arizona State – A big, physical runner who gained more than 1,200 yards as a junior after coming from Butler (Kansas) CC. Torian lacks breakaway speed but is able to punish defenders and fight through initial contact in order to gain additional yardage.
And from NFL.com
The former junior college transfer had as great an impact in two seasons as any running back in ASU history. A tough runner who is rarely brought down on first contact, he often hits defenders harder than they hit him. Torain combines speed, strength, agility and soft hands and would likely have been vying for All-American honors as a senior, but was sidetracked at midseason by a fractured toe that required surgery.
Perhaps
this is Shannys way of forcing a firing?
I freely admit to NOT being the smartest guy when it comes to drafting…BUT…
Hasn’t there been a S or ILB out there over these last two picks that could have helped???
relax
I think the Broncos feel with trading for Robertson was filling a need for DT. Plus the upside for Thomas is great, as long as he can stay clean. Nobody really knows what these last picks will do in April. Plus remember before everyone complains about the RB, Mike Anderson was a 4th round pick that came from Utah after the USMC and TD was a 6th.
Get off the late round DT there is rally none that will start or have a major impact this year

Anderson was a 6th
just for the record. Olandis Gary was in the 4th.

Hmmmm
Projected by TSN as a 7th rounder.
He’s a power runner (which I like for us with our current depth chart), but oddly he’s not a one cut runner. He is listed as having patience (which might allow him to be coached into the role), but he slows too much on turns and doesn’t recover speed.
Also not good at catching. Am reading mixed reviews on different sites about his ability to pass block, ranging from GREAT to INCAPABLE.
All sites agree he is a punisher and an inside runner. Short distance specialist? Perhaps the RB’s position coach sees something he can fix (you CAN develop a patient player into a one cut).
Considering this is the fifth round, he gets a break in my grade. But I’m still not thrilled. “C”

MattR
My scouting reports say this guys sucks, but it sounds like he was a beast at ASU. Maybe we should all take a deep breath and give this kid a break.
Is everyone reading Matt’s comments? Over 1000 yards, dominating on the run, etc? This ma be a clever sleeper pick after all.

So far, I’m holding this Torian guy as a “C” until I know more either way. It sounds like his measurable traits suck, but his onfield performance has been solid.

Some absolutely useless career notes about Powell from NFL.com
Powell is the only active defensive tackle in the Division 1-A collegiate ranks to have held the opponent to minus yardage rushing during his career (106 plays for losses of 13 yards)...The only time an opponent registered a rushing attempt for more than 10 yards vs. Powell came on a 13-yard gain by Virginia’s Mikell Simpson in 2007…Only four times during his 104 career tackles has the opposition managed to register a first down on that play.

speaking of baseball
I really want to punch Nate McLouth and his 3 HR the past game and a half. He is gonna cost me a game in my two week, head to head fantasy league.
I needed a good game from Beckett
Which it looks like I am getting. Although he still needs to get the win.
But McLouth’s outburst means I need someone on my team to match him this afternoon or I have no shot. Sadly, I hae the non-Pacman Adam Jones in my lineup this week. (It’ll be Curtis Granderson next week)
Curtis is killing it
Didn’t Adam have a good game earlier in the week? Possibly I dreamed it with all this Adam Jones news flying around.
Nah, he's young
and the O’s (who are my team) suck right now but have some young talent. When he is hitting #3 in that lineup in two years he will be a stud (and I am in a keeper league)
Titans on the clock, hope they get a WR
Their priority needs to be on someone who can catch errant passes – or – block downfield when VY takes off on his all too common runs.
They Did.
Lavelle hawkins, WR, Cal a while back.

Said he had 13 picks in his career. So did our J Williams, course that was in 4 seasons vs. 3.
J Williams also had 5 Forced Fumbles in 06.
That is a higher one year total than any other CB listed in the PFW draft guide had in the last 4 years. Very interesting.

On Powell:
Compares To: DEWAYNE ROBERTSON-New York Jets…Both of these players rely on suddenness and brute strength to gain advantage. Powell is a dominant run stuffer who does a fine job of handling double-team blocks. He needs to improve his lateral range to be more effective when chasing down plays and must use his hands better to protect himself from low blocks. But when he locks on to a blocker, he will quickly shed. Where he excels is clogging the rush lanes, as when he keeps his pads down, lead blockers are soon to be pushed back through the hole. For a team using the “under tackle” position, Powell is the perfect fit.
We must think Robertson is a perfect fit in our system…
It'd be great to get Roberston, too
so we could just shut down the run whenever we wanted.
Oh, wait…
