Around SBN: The cost of firing vs. the cost of retaining head coaches

Some draft tidbits because I'm a loser.

Day 2 featured 991 comments, with the highest comment count coming in the 3rd round, which is the only round in which we did not have a selection. Pretty amusing, huh?

Day 1's final comment count (meaning the last time I'm adding them all up) came out to 1,239.

Doing the time math, MHR members were responsible for 2,230 comments during the two day selection process. I'm not typically around for game threads, so I don't know how it compares, but considering it is essentially a two day festival of watching guys sit at a desk, names popping up on various screens, and a ton of second-guessing and analysis by those of us who like to pretend we understand (or in the Jack WIlliams pick, just try to rationalize it), I think it's a pretty impressive feat.

By my estimation, I contributed about 400 of those, so I apologize for being so darn talkative. Chances are very high I'll return to mostly lurking and occasionally chiming in during college football season on draft prospects.

Doing some quick skimming, I don't believe Oakland ammassed more than 50 comments for the entire draft, while the boys over at Arrowhead Pride rung up a cool-looking 1,113. I didn't see a Chargers blog listed, so uh, I guess we had more than them? Of course, if I lived in San Diego, I might not be inclined to try to run a blog, either.

It was mentioned by Jon Tellerud, I believe (if not, my bad) that this upcoming college season we would have some members divvy up the conferences in an attempt to unearth the gems ourselves and be more prepared for the Eddie Royal selections. I, for one, am all over the idea and would immediately like to sign up.

All that being said, I want to thank everyone who worked hard over the weekend to make the draft a fantastic experience at MHR and let me voice my opinion a ton of times. It was truly an awesome idea and I think next year an MHR Draft Party should be held somewhere because...that would be so awesome. That's all too far in the future, I suppose, so we'll see how things turn out. It would be cool to have our own type of War Room, complete with notes and reports from all the representatives of the different conferences. Chances are, I'm still taking the draft way, way too seriously, so my apologies.

That's all I have. Thanks for the fantastic weekend. Back to isolation I likely go =p

Epic Poster is Epic

Late night musings have gotten the best of some of us it seems. The last of the CFAs are getting lined out and a lot of people are going to go to work tired tomorrow, nodding off at their desks, or chatting up anyone who will listen with details about this weekend that pass by those who haven’t yet found communities like this to share it with.

2000+ posts, a lot of Zappa’s beer, and a ton of new and great information to process.

Thank’s for everything SlamDTF, and don’t go too far. When all the new members arrive for the season opener, you will probably have some ‘splainin to do! :)

Also, I for one would like to second the motion for a Draftivus for the Rest of Us, and I can’t think of a better location then Denver, CO.

Mountains, forest, sea: these render man fierce, but yet do not destroy the man.

Festivus Draftivus

I am planning a trip to Denver next year…but it must be to go to a home game. I can put it off no longer…I need to be in the cold, naked from the waist up, and screaming until I can scream no more.

trust me....

you will want to bundle up. I was at Cutler’s first start in 2006. It was bitter cold.

Well you're certainly no loser!

I wish I hadn’t been at work on Sat, or the count would have been a few comments higher, but I was here Sunday and still managed to get tired out sitting in fron of the screen all day. I’m still tired (but off work until tomorow).

Thanks for doing all of the counting. SD doesn’t have a blog (the only missing NFL team at SBN). While the oak site leader is a good guy and does a good job, many (not all) of the oak faithful are more about griping and bragging than in depth discussion. I’ve heard the oak show that follows Guru’s radio broadcast is a bunch of guys sitting around drinking (which is fun, but not insightful commentary). Love or hate the Chiefs, I think they have good fans. I also think they had one of the best drafts this year.

Definitely agree

on the Chiefs draft and fans. Also, thanks for the reassurance that I am not in fact a total loser. It’s always good to have random internet strangers giving me an ego boost lolol. I occasionally check in on Oakland’s site and kind of snicker and read a little bit and move on to productive things, and I figured the Chargers didn’t have a blog.

And yeah, I actually had a meltdown during the 7th round and missed the Barrett pick because I was facefirst on my laptop keyboard. Staying up all Friday night and all but 2 hours of Saturday night caught up to me real quick when I hit that couch with every intention of “blogging in comfort”. Good times!

I contributed over 200 comments, but ended up being busy most

of yesterday typing furiously getting every single draft pick in rounds 3-7 posted and linked to their draft profiles. I can say that I am glad its over and that it only happens once a year!!! :P

Bronco fans are the greatest. The Chiefs had, arguably, the best draft this year and yet we still knocked their socks off by over 1000 comments this weekend! ha!

Eh hem

Contributed mostly useless buzzed spam :P

Thanks for updating the day two thread though!!! I think we’ve killed a lot of the communities in commenting.

I know I took part in it at times :)

Zap!

Hey, glad you’re still above ground, my man.

Just wanted to let it be known that you did a bang up job keeping the profiles for EVERY SINGLE PICK updated yesterday.
Top notch, bro. You can put me down for the first round some day when we have the big MHR gathering in Mecca (also known as the Diaphragm). You have my thanks.

Or so I'm told.

The draft blogging was great fun

Yet another great excuse to not get anything done around the house over the weekend. My wife thinks I am a fanatic for following the Broncos and the draft so closely, but she is a saint. Plus, she knows that no other women would be interested in someone who is so singlemindedly focused on football :)
