Broncos College Scouting Project

This isn't official yet, but I wanted to update so that people can double check or confirm that they were willing to go with these Conferences. I put down the name of the Conference as well as those who said they would be willing to cover them. If anyone out there is still interested in joining up let me know other wise I might have a lot on my hands! Here is how it looks right now:

ACC- HAI17 and FLABRONCOFAN

Big 12- GIANTS9107 and SLAMDUNKTHEFUNK

Big East- FLABRONCOFAN

Big 10- PHANTOM818 and TEDBARTLETT905

Conference USA-

Independents-

Mid-America-

Mountain West- DISCO STU

PAC 10- GIANTS9107 and ZAPPA

SEC- EJRUIZ and TEDBARTLETT905

Sun Belt-

Western Athletic-

and ZAPPA somewhere...

Now onto the requirements for the scouting...

Star-divide

When Scouting the things to look for are:

Division Rivalry game highlights. How well the guys preform against the other teams in the division. While games that are non conference are good to watch to its the games that cost placement and bowl bids that really matter and the ones they will do the best preparation for.

Each Division has top preformers of the week. This helps with stats and also finding game high lights and other information on players that may not have been on the radar before that week

STANDOUT PERFORMERS. guys who go the extra mile even if the team is losing or lost the game

the final thing I think the MHR Community would like would be why you think players could done the BLUE AND ORANGE. This is not to say you cant look at top players who may not, because as we all know, Coach loves to pull a risk here and there.

If there is anything else you want to contribute feel free to do so, also if you think I missed something add it at the bottom. Looking forward to working with you guys on getting Bronco fans at the top of the list on information.

I am somewhere. lol I need a list of teams in California that are big programs to watch. I am not a scouting college guru…I am a college football watching virgin, so let me really study one specific geographic area. I think, USC, UCLA, Stanford, SD State…who else?

by Tim Lynch on Apr 28, 2008 9:51 PM MDT reply actions

Are all those teams in the PAC-10?

As you can see, I am total moron when it comes to College football.

Go Hornets!

Sac State Hornets…woohoo! They pay my bills, so I got to root for them right?

Don't worry about it

I’m pretty behind on college as well. I’m taking the Mountain West for the proximity to where I live (and have lived before), and because it’s a bit of a lower-level conference. I think this will serve as a good learning experience for everyone involved!

Hey Jon,

First, let me say how awesome this is, and I’m glad you are getting into it.

Second, if there is anything that MHR can do to aid you, just let Guru or one of the editors know. We may be able to help you keep the writeups or whatever product comes from this in order, or organized under their own section or something like that.

In the meantime, something you (and anyone else reading this. Jump in guys!) might consider putting up are some college football primers, maybe describing different conferences or rivalries, so that guys like Zappa can get on the fasttrack for broadening their football horizons. The months leading up to OTA’s are theperfect time for that, since the main Bronco’s news won’t be crowding us for space.

Again, this idea rocks, and MHR is behind this 100%. Just let us know what we can try to do.

Mountains, forest, sea: these render man fierce, but yet do not destroy the man.

I was thinking about that actually

Rivarlries run big in college and so there is a lot of background and sometimes I am not familiar with all of it so I am going to try and do my best. I was going to start maybe Monday posting up some of the conferences and the breakdown of rivalries I am going to spend the week doing research on it. Thanks for the idea and the support. I sent you an email about this as well.

If it helps

I’d be happy to do a quick write-up on the Mountain West. Just let me know when you want it by!

If you want to write it up

You can post it whenever you want! I think I want to title the write up series “MHR Scouting- Primers” ? any thought on that? So a title I would do would be “MHR Scouting- Primer PAC 10” sound alright? let me know what you think

I like the name.

When my general post-draft malaise ends (Tuesday or Wednesday), I’ll gladly begin working on a Big XII Primer to get people caught up on prospects I like, expectations, and the many, many rivalries that exist.

by A.J. Haefele on Apr 28, 2008 10:39 PM MDT up reply actions

I would stick with the basic backgrounds and rivalries

players to watch would come later. We need to bring everyone up to speed on the history.

I can help a tiny, tiny bit with the Mountain West. My email is on my fan page. Mostly historical stuff ‘caus I am older than dirt. Way older than the Mt. West.

I wish my pic was as good as broncofanstuckinsd

I'll help with this

I’ll be happy to write a primer on the ACC if you’d like.

I have exams this week, but I could hopefully have something ready at some point next week if that would work for you.

by hai17 on Apr 28, 2008 11:22 PM MDT up reply actions

Sounds great

my hope is that the primers start going up on Monday and then after next week we have enough people who are interested in joining the few of us wanting to do this. If not I may re do how we do this and break us down by positions and scout that way. Thoughts here?

I like the conferences idea

I think we have enough to cover the BCS conferences, which is probably where about half of the prospects come from. I’m just worried that breaking it down by position will create some problems getting game footage. I know that where I am, I get only ACC/SEC past the big national games (and unfortunately Sunday Ticket takes priority over ESPN Gameplan with my wallet). ESPN and the like help, but they tend to gloss over the middle of the road games (not to mention D1AA, or whatever they are calling it now).

For the primer do you want more of an overview of the conference as a whole (teams, main rivalries, general personnel trends etc) or do you want more of a breakdown of each individual team? Or both?

by hai17 on Apr 28, 2008 11:35 PM MDT up reply actions

We could go any way you want it

My Primer for the PAC 10 is going to be an overall view of the Conference, Specific Teams Breakdowns and how they like to play and then Rivalries. If you want to do more be my guest but I think that would be the best way to do it. I still have to run the whole Idea down with Guru and get his OKAY.

One more thing...

Also, for the smaller conferences, we could split up by region.

Like for instance, since i’m in NC I could pay attention to Appalachian State and ECU, etc.

by hai17 on Apr 28, 2008 11:41 PM MDT up reply actions

I think once it takes off

maybe we could do this but if we concentrate on the BCS Conferences we will get the majority of the players coming into the draft. Also I am hoping to get a few lists of guys who will enter the draft this year online and share the resource so you know who to look at without having to guess through the whole game who to scout. I will give another post to this later on this week

Thanks man.

A lot of times you can also tell who the big players are going to be on certain teams. Or at least the draftable ones.

Hmmm

Anyway we could get enough recs to keep this bumped for a while so those of us participating can easily access it without going through the channels?

by A.J. Haefele on Apr 29, 2008 11:24 PM MDT reply actions

We are going to try and get a section together

So that it is easily accessible. I have to work some stuff out with Guru Styg and company. Email me this weekend cause I will be working on my primer piece for the Pac 10 as well as finding the guys we should really look at each game. Drop me a line and we can chat this up cause I am going to go head on into this

I've already started piecing together

some stuff on the Big XII, so I’m with you in jumping into this bad boy full on. There will be lulls on my part because I have some intense training to do real soon, but for the most part I’ll be here.
