Is there internal strife already?? Hopefully Travis Henry has a good reason to be a no-show --

Running back Travis Henry was the only missing player of note today when the Broncos opened their first minicamp in advance of the 2008 season.

No explanation was giving for the missing Henry, who had been participating in the team's strength and conditioning sessions, including last week.

Broncos coach Mike Shanahan was expected to meet with the media later today.

A pulled hamstring will cause tailback Travis Henry to miss the Broncos’ first minicamp in advance of the 2008 season.

Henry suffered the injury Friday on the last of several 100-yard dashes that were part of the team’s strength and conditioning program.

Injuries at the RB position again? Let’s brace ourselves for a nice long year of rotating and staying away from any one back in the fantasy department xD

I’m guessing he just wants to rest a bit and get that thing back up to speed. Don’t wanna risk anything this early.

THIS!!!

More than any character issues, the main concern I have with Henry is this: INJURIES! This guy just cannot stay healthy. I know it’s just a mild injury and he’ll be back on Monday (hopefully!), but with Travis it seems like it’s always something.

It's really too bad Torain will not be ready to go when the season starts or he'd be in prime position to take over as the starter.

Or so I'm told.

What I meant to add was...

It’s really too bad Torain will not be ready to go when the season starts or he’d be in prime position to take over as the starter.

I don’t know how that format thing happened.

Or so I'm told.

Agreed..............

My biggest concern with Henry has always been the nagging injuries. He seems to have them every year. I commented after another article that we might find out sooner rather than later if the Train can carry the mail, I’m thinking our running back depth is going to pay off. I mean, I hope Henry can play, but he has proven unreliable in the past due to the injury bug. I just don’t see him being a feature back this late in his career when you consider the injuries he has had, never anything real serious, but always something.

The player who thinks he can and the player who knows he can are two different players, which one are you???

On a good note...

I read this morning that The Train is ahead of schedule in his recovery and was a participant yesterday in camp. If there is good from this, it would be that the door is cracked just a little for the rookie to blast it down!

Or so I'm told.

Amen Bro..........

I read that too, good news to hear. He might just take Mr. Henry’s job. Shanny didn’t seem to worried about Henry but it just makes me nervous because he is always banged up it seems like.

How much gauranteed money did we pay this guy???

Ok, I’m getting worked up again. Gotta stay positive. lol If Travis doesn’t play at least 14 games this season I would bet money he is as good as gone for 2009.

It's not so bad

They gave him a $6 million signing bonus with the 5 year contract last year. He was supposed to get another $6 million this year, but he gave it up to stay with the team. His base salaries for the next 4 years are $1 million each. I think he has some incentive clauses built in so he can recoup some of the bonus money he gave up. Really not a bad contract at this point.

However, I do share the general concern about injuries. Hopefully this is a minor tweak and they are being extra cautious, but it is worrying that there always seems to be something wrong. Luckily, Denver has some decent depth at RB and a good system that allows reserves to be productive.

...and then get injured like last year :-/

Hopefully the RBs shake the injury problems of recent history.

knocking on wood

But it is a bit reassuring to know that Mike Bell, our #4 RB (at best), could have a 1200 yard season if forced to play the whole year.

mike bell

the thing is, i really don’t see a spot for him right now. is he going to beat out hillis at #2 fullback, or hall/torrain at #3 hb? is he good enough at st to keep around? i hope so. i think he is the surest thing we have should henry go down for any length of time. but i think he’s in shanny’s doghouse now. i really hope we keep him, i don’t like the other options long-term, unless hillis runs really well in the preseason and makes him expendable. i’d keep him over hall, though, and i hear torrain won’t be ready for the season opener. this is a big offseason for bell, he needs to show something here or he might be gone

Dog House or not

Halitosis is better than no breath at all. The spot for him now is that he is healthy. I don’t care how good you are if you are in street clothes on the sideline you are not contributing.

Mike Bell

Do you guys remember how upright Mike Bell runs, and how many fumbles that causes? Wait Mike Bell, you just made a 5 yard run…....strike a pose.

Hey Mike, nice 4 yard run….....shimmy the shoulders.

I remember him doing that since his very first carry. I wouldn’t even want Mike on ST. He sucks kinda.

Are you serious?

I have no problem with the situation if Henry let the coaches know what was going on. However, if he is just AWOL, I have a huge problem with the matter.

Mike Bell needs to regain the trust of the team. Fumbles are unacceptable. I will give him a break because he did get limited action and rust can lead fumbles.

So long as Henry has a good excuse, I’m comfortable with the situation. I am a big fan of Young. And I think that the explosiveness of the rest of our offense with a stronger O-Line will make our running game better. Along those same lines, I think that our running game will help out the rest of our offense.
