A Letter To Broncos Fans From Andrew Mason

The below letter was written by former Broncos Blogger Andrew Mason.  Mason was the Sr. Editor at DenverBroncos.com for several years until recently being let go.  Mason, a fan of the site, asked if he could thank all of you directly for your support over the years and especially when news of his "release" was reported.  As you'll see below, Andrew has landed on his feet.

In the comments I read on message boards, my former blog, e-mail and other venues, many of you wanted to know where I would end up.  I didn't want to say much until I had something to report -- which is now the case.

But please forgive me for detouring before getting to the point of this piece.

With the Broncos opening their quarterback camp on Monday morning, I found myself taking a few minutes to click around and see how the first day of OTAs was being covered.  After all, it seems like only yesterday that I was blogging about Broncos offseason practices, and just a couple of hours ago that I was still writing on DenverBroncos.com.

Then I saw this picture over on the Rocky Mountain News' Web site.  I easily recognized Jay Cutler and Patrick Ramsey.  The fellow in the background -- that was another matter entirely.

"Eighty-four?" I blurted out in puzzlement to an otherwise empty hotel room. "Who the heck is that guy?"

(For the record, it is tight end Brett Pierce.)

I hope you'll forgive my ignorance, because I have another team upon which I am focused -- the Carolina Panthers.

As the Broncos began their quarterback camp, I went through my first day at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte as the staff writer on the team's official Web site, Panthers.com. It is an opportunity for which I am thankful to so many near and far, in Dove Valley and beyond -- not the least of which are those of you who shared so many kind words in the days and weeks after the paths of myself and the Broncos diverged.  My second chance with an NFL team is in part due to Broncos fans who read the site and blog and responded to it with such gusto.

Wherever I go and whatever I do, I'll never forget what a privilege it was to write for you, Denver's fans, for the past six seasons.  Yes, this is a business, and there's a reality to it that I understand in the way so many players and coaches have over the years.  But this is also a passion, one that all of us around the sport -- players, staffers, coaches, fans -- share with equal fervor.

Take care, and until we meet again, "vaya con Dios."

I have been sitting on this news for awhile now, wanting Andrew to let you guys and gals know when he felt comfortable.  It is becuase of the support from guys like Mase that this site has been as successful as it has been.  We will miss his takes on the Broncos, especially during Training Camp, but congratulate him on his new opportunity.

Good news

Thanks for posting that Guru. Glad to hear Mason is in a good spot now. He does great work. I’ll have to go to Panthers.com now and let the folks there know what they have in him.

He’s right about the business part and it’s good to know he left with a good impression of Bronco fans.

Or so I'm told.

I have Mason to thank for finding MHR...and Guru.

Guru’s signature is the same here as it was on denverbroncos.com. I remember saying, Milehighreport? Hmm, Interesting! lol

I am glad Mason found work, especially at a team that I don’t despise. :)

agreed on all points

I was just thinking last night that I missed Mason’s camp roundups and photos. He did a very good job of balancing his role as a team employee with giving the fans good inside info about the Broncos.

Best Wishes Andrew

Congratulations on your new position. Carolina is very fortunate to have you on their staff. I echo the sentiments above about missing your quality work, but if you hadn’t left I would have never found the MHR. I guess I owe you one more big "Thank You Andrew Mason!"

stop by anytime

i am seriously pissed i won’t get to read your bronco blogs anymore, mason. as i’ve said here before, you WERE the official broncos website. you may want to consider doing your blog from the game for the panthers now, as i thought that was the most entertaining and insightful coverage i’ve ever read. for those of us who can’t attend the game, that kind of reporting really took you there, with a sandwich, and it was really priceless. i read every one after i watched the game at a sports bar. i am REALLY upset that is not to be anymore. maybe you can do it here for the 12/14 game! please? either way, i hope the carolina fans appreciate your work there as much as we did here. take care, and best of luck to you and yours

Thank you Andrew

You did great work, I am sure the Carolina fans will appreciate your reports and photography as much as we did.

Glad you landed on both feet!

Best of luck to you. Our loss will be a gain for Panthers fans.
