Broncos sign Michael Pittman

This is being reported online by Pro Football Talk and ESPN.  They do not have any other details about the contract or who was cut.  I was a bit surprised initially, but I just read that Travis Henry missed today's workouts due to his hamstring.  Pittman is a decent veteran backup if Henry's hamstring injury lingers.  And my guess is that it is a one year deal for the veteran's minimum (maybe with a $40K signing bonus).

Not much else to add, but wanted to get the news out there.

unfortunately

I think this hurts Selvin Young’s prediction of 2,000yards.

The best chance of 2,000 yards is a committee approach (in my opinion).

Henry (when healthy) gives us 100+ yards per game. If Young can play more as a rotational back than as a change-up, he can probably get about 70 to 110 yards per game. Oddly, I think he gets the same as a change-up, given the effect a power back could have in wearing down the defense for him ( a few high gain yards as oppossed to consistent moderate yardage). I’m hoping that Young plays as either a rotational back or as a change-up. I’m really hoping that we don’t risk any RB as a primary runner in our system.

You are correct.

With the players the Broncos currently have, I see this being a system without a primary back. I don’t think I primary system would work with the number and specifications of the guys in the system now. That doesn’t mean I’m not a fan of the primary back system (loved TD and ESPECIALLY Clinton), but I’ll take the plug-and-play for now.

Woah

Like it. Pittman’s getting older, but I like the older highlights of him. I just saw the Bucs/Colts “classic” game on NFL Network from 03 that I believe was more of a classic game of HORRIBLE officiating and a terrible botched call that helped decide the game. Mike got injured in the game and Thomas Jones of all people had to come in (he WAS a Buc :-o). If it’s true, looks like Denver didn’t go any of the other routes they could’ve gone for a runningback this off-season. Pittman’s as veteran as you can get and he’s no stranger to the back-up role.

is gonna be one helluva thing to watch

Until Terrell Davis makes it into the Hall of Fame, I refuse to acknowledge the existence of such a place other than the Ring of Fame at Mile High!

Ole' Blister

made me choose between MNF in oak with OakFoSho and Zappa or training camp. I picked training camp.

If I could, I'd do training camp too...

my wifey has used the MNF game several times to get herself manicures, pedicures, and hair colorings, ect. I am beginning to regret getting those tickets. lmao!

like it

just more depth and insurance if henry or torain don’t seize the big back/short yardage role. backup fb, maybe-adios bell? wow, this preseason is going to be something to watch this year, isn’t it? this guy still is a powerful runner, but very limited. more competition, no problem

I don't really care

who runs, I just want TDs instead of FGs. It would be nice to have a featured back run for 2,000 yards, however, that is an individual goal that means little to me. I think a better team oriented goal should be the Playoffs and the Super Bowl. 1st Downs, TDs and improved running to setup the Play Action are what I really want from the running game.
