Peter King's Power Rankings
Now, I don't necessarily begrudge Peter King for putting Denver at #23. Last year was bad, and taking a "show me" approach to this year isn't wrong. I feel better than he does, but that's just me.
What DOES bother me is that, instead of examining everything Denver did in the offseason, King says this:
23. Denver. Just whom exactly do you count on in Denver? The courageously diabetic quarterback? The who-knows-what-to-believe star wideout Brandon Marshall? Or the coach who might be running out of tricks with his magic wand?
The Broncos gave up 26 points a game last year. And just how embarrassing must it be to surrender more than 30 to Houston, Chicago and the Oakland Raiders, for God's sake, all in the span of 18 days? The Broncos' most important acquisition to help that defense has never started an NFL game. Niko Koutouvides will play middle 'backer after backing up strong linebackers for four years in Seattle. Not too much pressure on him, is there?
So the reloading season for Denver amounts to the following:
-Cutler has diabetes, so you can't count on him
-Marshall had his "fall" so you can't count on him
-Shanahan is out-dated
-Niko Koutouvides is expected to solve all Denver's problems
I guess it was too much to ask that he mention the following:
-Cutler's diabetes should be a non-issue this season
-The trade for DRob and drafting Carlton Powell
-Drafting Eddie Royal and signing Colbert, Parker, and Jackson
-A deeper offensive line, with Ryan Clady on board
-Bates is gone
-The young defensive line has more experience
*sigh* Maybe I'm just expecting too much from a MSM writer...

You are expecting too much.
Peter King is a dillhole anyway. Denver will finish in the top 10 this year…no doubt.

For me
it’s not even that he had the Broncos at 23 (although I do think he’s wrong.) King’s rankings were looking at each team’s drafts, mentioning a number of players, changes, etcs….then it got to Denver, and it basically became a mockery. I’m not okay with that! So many things have changed this reloading season for Denver…and all King can mention is Niko Koutouvides? That’s just lazy!

Maybe he is a Chefs or Charger fan...
he mocks the rival AFC West teams to his favorite. Media pukes are always biased these days…there are very few impartial writers out there.
lol, I am one to talk…I too am biased, but the difference is that I do not pretend to be a sports writer with a nonbiased opinion. ;)
Hope that made a little more sense.

One other thing
When gets to oakland (and does a bit more mocking, I have to admit), he questions whether the raider secondary will stop big plays from Phyllis Rivers and…Jay Cutler? I thought that was a big question mark?
Meh. Overall, I didn’t mind the rankings (although some seemed way off…I guess he has to make a splash somewhere.) I think I’m done ranting now. :o)

Gimme a Break
King obviously just needed to meet a deadline. Like you, I don’t mind him having the Broncos at 23, but he evidently rushed through this without doing much homework. I don’t dispute that the Broncos have something to prove. But as for Jay my wife is a diabetic and excells at a high stress job, so it is idiotic in my opinion to write Cutler off because of that. Also, did he even look at who we drafted or traded for or signed besides K2? C’mon Mr. King, aren’t you getting paid to do this? Too much IMO.

Welcome to MHR(belated).
I agree with you there. He probably figures most casual readers will just look at the top ten. It’s still a slap in the face…

Wow
lol his explanation could’ve been a bit better. Denver certainly has something to prove, but a diabetes QB that we can’t trust or that can’t do anything? Seriously now, we have posted about five million topics and discussed how it shouldn’t be all THAT much of an issue. Also, it’s true Denver played poorly last season, but some of the acquisitions they made this off-season should actually help a bit. I hope the Broncos shatter the twenty-three mark this season.
